Yep. Atmosphere can sometimes trump gameplay through (Way of the Samurai), so it'd be worth it to sniff around some reviews and maybe give it a rental before passing final judgement.

Rise of the Argonauts releasing in NORTH AMERICA next week, Tuesday December 16th!

    http://www.destructoid.com/surprise-rise-of-the-argonauts-hitting-north-american-store-shelves-next-week-114026.phtml

The UK gets it in February for some reason.

Well duh, its because we're not real people.

Seriously though, with all the stuff out at the moment I couldn't give two shits, gives me time to work through the backlog.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this, but share an earlier poster's concerns about the AI. Pants-on-head retarded perfectly describes most computer controlled "helpers." If Hercules (who is a fucking monster btw) goes off to pick a fight with Medusa while we're recovering from the last fight that might be in character but it's not very helpful.

I was that earlier poster. Does anyone know if we have any indication as to the pantatory status of the AI's noggin as of yet?

Yeah, it looks like it has a lot of problems. Most of the reviews mention the same issues, so it's hard to dispute.

I'll wait for a price drop. Got plenty to play already.

Those reviews make it sound like it got dumbed down too much, like Space Siege.

So I bought this and played it a bit. I like it! Lanrutcon, it's definitely a couple of steps above Space Siege. Space Siege was probably the biggest disappointment of the year for me.

I'm just happy that this game uses the Mass Effect conversation system, and I hope that more games follow this trend in the future.

The first thing I felt when I fired this up was that it felt like a game from 2003, graphics and animation wise, however I liked the game, even though the first part was so slow!

That, and a love of Greek Mythology.

That's about all it took to overlook this game's obvious flaws. Like how the top half of everyone's face doesn't really animate at all when they talk.

Or how doofy the running animation looks on hills and other moderately inclined surfaces. It looks like Jason is about to start frolicking.

These are not enough to dissuade me. I used to play Wrath of the Gods all the time.

I like how your advancement is based directly off of your actions and not on somewhat-arbitrary points. It's a neat idea.

I ended up using a $50 gift certificate to get this game at the local game store. Not sure I would drop 60 cash on it. The only word I have to describe it is unique. I own the other sword games for 360 viking, conan etc... and it's quite a bit different. I've been through about six hours of the game and I like it.

Cool level up system, excellent story, i figured I could easily rent fable 2, the new PoP but this would be very hard to find - looked like it had good replay value - so far happy

i bought & beat this game over the weekend. Not a fan. Combat was lame, the controls were unresponsive [I'm looking at you god powers! }:^( ], the running animation is really bad, the camera was frustrating, the bosses were cheap (especially the ones on Saria) and I didn't like the butchering of the story. I came into this thinking it would be Jason & The Argonauts: The Game and it was just a bad combat game with a meh dialogue system attached.

I did like debating the creepy guy in Athena's temple.

It's sad really. I was expecting a fantasy Mass Effect clone, and would have been perfectly satisfied with that. But they couldn't even pull that off. :(

i was hoping for a slightly more actiony titan quest, but it sounds like they couldnt pull that off either. i'll probably still end up with this sometime down the road for like $10, just because.

Yeah, I didn't expect Medusa to join the crew of the Argo either.

Still... I rather like the dialogue system. Though I would've liked it better if it wasn't so obvious which reponses would be favoured by which gods.

That is actually why I liked debating the guy, because none of the responses were tied to a particular god and it was me debating some douche with makeup on.

    Casting Life3 on this thread.

Finally bought this! For $5 on Steam. I'm bad at supporting developers.

Anyway, it's not bad. I turned on all the graphical niceness I could, and even forced 8xAA through my video card settings. It's rough, but it gets the point across. The combat is hit or miss (literally) but most of the writing is nice.

It still crashes about every hour to hour and a half, and the official forums show that other people are having the same issue and are being ignored, but I'm having a good time anyway.

Yeah, I still replay this game with some regularity on the 360, because... well... it's short and I'm a huge sucker for Ancient Greece. And I really don't mind that they screwed so much up in creative ways, because they also got a lot of things sort of right. Just like the many myths themselves, in a way. :P

Heck, the thing I dislike most is that I was pretty much forced by own personality to become somewhat proficient with the spear simply because that's Athena's weapon.

On a related note, I'm also terrible with the mace.

I really like the mace, but I'm only at the first of the 3 major islands. I'm kinda forced to get good at the spear, too, because that's how I normally lean in dialogue. That and Apollo's shield. So I try to Power Block when possible.

I really like the gear-changing screen. And the fact that it comes up immediately when you earn a new piece of gear is very cool.

    Yeah, that's another thing.
As much as I like the levelling up system (dedicate your achievements to the Gods so They may bless you!), you're pretty much forced to dedicate quite a few of them to Apollo. He's the only one with defensive, healing stuff, while the others mostly deal in boosting a specific weapon.

So most of the easier builds, I find, are Appolo + Favoured God(dess).
