Yeah, the amount of extra ubers you can get off just from not having to be too careful with using them is pretty significant. With the uber you might spend a lot of time running around at 100% waiting for the time it's really necessary, because you can't afford to not have it when it's time to kill a turret or save your own ass. With the Kritzkrieg, just get it and use it. 10% wasn't nearly enough but with +25% I'll definitely be giving it a shot again. It's also very very useful in Arena where time is short and turrets are rare.
Of course the needle gun is better when it's critting. The problem is that even with the crit buff from healing that's still the minority of the time and I don't think it's at all worth it considering how damn good the health leech is.
Most of the early unlockables have a clear winner in terms of usefulness though.
Blut....blut.
Flaregun...shotgun.
Boxing gloves...boxing gloves, despite pow!
There's a clear winner in each case.
Wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the first unlockables follow this rule.
Yeah but I don't think Valve is doing that on purpose, they just stubbornly refuse to admit that their weapon balance sucks.
Also, the Sandvich is the first Heavy unlock, and it's the closest tradeoff yet IMHO.
It's probably because I never got used to the health boost it gave. Let's be honest, before the update most Medics (with the exception of maybe Luny) went down like dominoes at close range. They're supposed to run and perhaps come back around the corner with a Heavy in tow, not sap away your health and bonesaw you across the map.
Where the hell is Luny anyway? Steam says he hasn't been on for 92 days.
Oh dammit, I was just wondering if any of the people I was used to playing with disappeared over the summer.
Is there anyone else? Zot? Peewi?
I'm still playing TF2. I played for several hours right after the update hit.

What how is the sandwich a trade off? A portable medic vs a gun you never ever used because if you had to use it you were already dead.

That's not a fair statement! I've used the shotgun *at least* twice, and maybe even three times!

The shotgun is useful a lot of the time for firing while retreating or pestering Snipers. And the Sandvich is useless when you have a Medic most of the time. It's a situational decision, which is more than you can say for most unlocks.
If the servers ever manage to get a team balance for arena that actually does half the sever vs the other half, it works very well.
I've been playing arena_badlands and I've actually been enjoying myself.
On badlands.
Haha, but really, I do enjoy these arena things now that I've done decent 6v6 and 10v10s. Some of the maps REALLY don't work for 12v12, but I'm sure some of the larger ones would work just fine.

I thoroughly enjoy shooting up mans then ducking off to a smoko shack with a couple of other heavies and having a picnic.
Omnomnomnom.
Sandvich is pure joy.

With all the heavies, but more importantly no scouts, I had fun playing badlands

Yeah, scouts have recently been ruining some things for me. It almost seems like they need to be held back for a little while in maps without a setup time.
Also, was that you chasing me around and named "Sandvich" today? Or were there just lots of people named Sandvich?

Well they added those gates and setup time before the middle point of granary. Strange that they wouldn't do that for other maps as well.
Let me all tell you the awesome story of how I played the patch, I was in chat talking about the patch when my steam suddenly crashed. I thought 'hey the patch must be out' and restarted steam, which proceeded to crash again.. and again. Finally I manage to download the patch and join job's server just before it fills up (I was the 24th player). I proceed to take out my unlocked weapons, eat a sandwich in spawn. And as soon as I leave the spawn.... my game crashes and I lose my internet connection

Sounds like some fun times.
Also, I motion to have the two new arena maps added to the regular rotation on Job's. Assuming of course that it won't crash the server >_> (did you guys get it working?).
Otherwise I had some fun times on Demitri's server with the arenas.
I don't understand the scout hate... Scouts have it hard enough and now heavies have an anti-scout weapon.
I swear I will lynch anybody that says scout is ezmode.
As a soldier-only player, the only reason I hate the scouts is because they make my rocket launcher nearly useless. They're so fast they can just dodge my rockets like nothing else and they're usually so fast it's damn hard nailing them with a shotgun round.

I have been killed countless times by stray rocket AOE or a random grenade lobbed around. Just being touched by fire and then escaping still brings you down to <50% HP. Which is generally why those three classes annoy me.
I've noticed I get incredibly selfish when I play as a scout. I take all medpacks everywhere. Even if I've only lost 5 health. Sure, I try to check if there's someone else with a more desperate need cause I can easily run to another medkit but I never run back to get healing when I've taken minimal damage as a pyro or medic or whatever.
Playing TF2 now almost makes me feel bad for the guys playing the ps360 versions. Almost.
They knew what they were getting in to when they first sat on their couches.
I have a friend who bought the 360 version even after I told him that Valve games are PC things and that he was retarded for not wanting the PC version (with custom maps, updates etc etc).
He has a complete MONSTER of a PC that can run Crysis on near top quality as well.
So I'm going away for a night, thus I'll be lacking TF2. Wonder what the chances of an emergency patch being drafted in anytime soon are. It's typical, people were constantly talking about crashing in Arena mode and I was thinking "hahahah somehow I am immune" and then I get a repeating sound loop and I'm thrown back to desktop. Blargh.
But from what I saw of it, Arena is awesome. But believe it or not I think the teams should be 9 v 9, because with 12-a-side I imagine it'll be too crowded...

This will shock some people, but I agree with the 9vs9. As much as I love 12vs12 superbattleoperas....permanent death changes my views.

Anyone have problems with Achievements being already unlocked? I had two achievements unlocked, kill someone 5 seconds after teleporting and eating 100 Sanvidches. But I hadn't played as a heavy yet.

also unlocked sandvich and natascha in one play session, and have been ubered 30 times tonight. W00t
Also, those boxing gloves are ridiculously big.

Can't be done! Just play and have fun.
Man this update is great for playing scout. No rawkets to worry about, just a bunch of heavies that can't track targets in straight lines.
I still suck, as I stand behind them and get owned instantly and can't hit anything when I'm jumping, but killing medics is
I never asked for this!
I just burnt like 3 medics
Also the server I was on today said: "Team size is increasing to 10 to accommodate the current player count."
And we had 10v10. I'm not sure how they did it.

It's fun to bait someone by ducking around a corner and sitting there revved up and waiting, then whipping out the sammich over his corpse.

oh god I am not good at battlefield

I just did that, and got a ton of Pyro achievements, can you say Makin' Bacon'!
EDIT: the team fortress page updated http://teamfortress.com/
