You shouldn't read Death of the New Gods before FC because Final Crisis ignores it and it just makes things confusing
This is what gets me. All the New Gods died, yet somehow all the evil ones came back to life on Earth? And they're sort of human? So where are all the good Gods at?

yeah apparently morrison explicitly asked that dc abstain from using the new gods for a year or so before final crisis, which dc apparently took to mean "make a semi-mediocre series starring all the new gods which won't match up with the story of our big event book"
I don't understand why Battle of the Cowl and all these other post-RIP tie-ins are being written by guest writers. It just seems to me as though this is Morrison's story to tell. He's the one that brought Batman to the place he's at now. He's the one writing Final Crisis, which we've been hinted will have some direct bearing on the post-RIP events.
So why isn't Morrison finishing the job? He's brought Bruce right up to the very threshold of retirement, and he's giving it away to someone else. I don't understand this at all.
I just cannot comprehend why he would give away the most significant Batman story in the past decade (or more).
Because of the way he ended RIP, with its helicopter crash cliffhanger, we don't know anything at this point. The fate of Batman is still yet to be determined. And some other guest writer is doing the honors of making it happen? I just don't get it.
14. And then Neil and Andy’s story, “Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?” – when we fished talked about it right after the panel at San Diego, I asked if that, by naming it after Alan Moore’s Superman story, if you were giving readers a hint at what the story will cover. Going back to what you said, the similarity here is that this is the end of a period in the life of “Batman?”
DD: Yes. It closes the chapter on this part of the life of Batman, that is, through Bruce Wayne’s eyes.
And to continue through the plan, Batman and Detective will go on hiatus for three months beginning in March, and in March, April and May, we have Battle for the Cowl, which is a three-parter, and we also have a second three-parter, Oracle, following the adventures of Barbara Gordon which follows events of Birds of Prey and picks up some storylines from Final Crisis, and we also have a three part Azrael miniseries that will roll out during that period of time as well, which will be integral to the events taking place in the Batman books.
If the Anti-Life Equation can save people's lives, I'm not entirely certain that Oracle is going to make it through her mini without her legs getting healed.
Couple that with the fact that Batgirl is nowhere to be seen in the Battle for the Cowl minis, and I'm wondering if the old Batgirl is going to get phased out.

Kevin VanHook's writing Oracle? Isn't he the guy that wrote Superman/Batman vs Vampires/Werewolves? o_O And wasn't Royal McGraw the guy that did a couple of terrible Detective Comics fill-ins?
The only one in that group that I've got any confidence in is Fabian Nicieza and I really don't think he's going to be able to save this alone... Sure, I hope that Tony Daniel turns out to be an amazing writer but why throw him onto a pretty big project straight away?

Because truthfully, Battle for the Cowl isn't a big event. We probably should have known who the next Batman was going to be in R.I.P. or at least in something Morrison's going to be writing, but DC decided they wanted more money, so we're getting what will probably be a throwaway event to drag the whole process out longer and get more people to buy comic books.

We all know it's Tim anyway.
I think Morrison told them who was going to be the new Batman and DC decided to make an event on how they got the job.
I think it's because those combat boots are clashing with the more classical, medieval-themed armor present on his torso, and when I look at his leggings I keep seeing them as sweatpants he picked up at Costco.
Well Mark Shaw, the former Manhunter being groomed for the role of Azrael, was never a cop as the Azrael solicitation states. So he's probably out. I'm not really sure who they'd stick in the suit at this point.
And I'm pretty sure Manhunter's going to finish out its arc focusing on abortion clinic murders and then end. So there's a handful of issues left.
Because every asshole that wrote a "Wildcat has to stop an underground fight club!" story in JSA: Classified inevitably had him trot over to Gotham for a while. And because Frank Tieri stuck him in Gotham Underground. For some reason.

Your loss. Nightwing's been one of the best books DC's been putting out, since Tomasi started writing it anyway.
Scooter: There was a war in heaven, Darkseid won.

In fact...

Gotham Underground was nine damn issues, and its most significant contribution was providing cannon fodder for Rogue's Revenge.

It is?
If so, then I agree with what you said.

So it sounds like it *is* a mini-series, but it is taking the place of regular issues of Batman.
Yeah, I doubt any of that will be good.

She only used it in that and then in Frank Tieri's issues of Batman & The Outsiders. So she only uses it when Frank Tieri thinks it appropriate.
And her appearances in both of them still haven't been explained
Notice anyone missing?

That page with him holding the cowl was a pretty clear indication.

But Tim has been in Morrison's run from the beginning, acting all...Batman like.

also what happened to the rest of Manhunter? I know it was gonna be canceleled but didn't it have like 2 more issues?
And I'm pretty sure Manhunter's going to finish out its arc focusing on abortion clinic murders and then end. So there's a handful of issues left.
