Does she need to do more? Isn't that a heroic enough stand against the evil Right Wing?

Ted Grant trained Batman and Catwoman. Plus the JSA was based in Gotham for a while (they might still be?) so he's in the city a lot. It's not a stretch for him to be there.

I mean, he makes as much sense as Catwoman, Huntress, and Batwoman fighting for the mantle of "Batman"

Speaking as someone who loves Batman but hasn't been following RIP or its apparent resulting event at all, my god this looks terrible.

And Dick as Batman? Are they really going to retread that same path again? It has to be Tim. Any indications of it being Dick are the writers flailing about for red herrings.

How much of a retread is it? Did Dick ever take the mantle up outside of Prodigal?

Has the character changed significantly since then?

Plus, Nightwing becoming Batman in Prodigal is very much a different story than Nightwing becoming Batman after R.I.P.

My only problem with Dick becoming Batman is that it's so... humdrum. Oh yay, Dick's wearing the cape and cowl (again). Nightwing's m.o. is already half-Batman as it is, so if you've been reading Batman and you've been reading Nightwing you'll know exactly what to expect.

Maybe Dick's the only one who can do it. Maybe Dick's the only one who deserves it. I get that. But don't make a big fucking deal about it when nothing about it is going to surprise anyone.

I still can't get over Tony Daniels writing this thing. I mean...really? Tony Daniels? That's who you tap for this?

    Really?

    Tony Daniels?
    Really?

The only one in that group that I've got any confidence in is Fabian Nicieza and I really don't think he's going to be able to save this alone... Sure, I hope that Tony Daniel turns out to be an amazing writer but why throw him onto a pretty big project straight away?

Because truthfully, Battle for the Cowl isn't a big event. We probably should have known who the next Batman was going to be in R.I.P. or at least in something Morrison's going to be writing, but DC decided they wanted more money, so we're getting what will probably be a throwaway event to drag the whole process out longer and get more people to buy comic books.

At DC comics, there's no such thing as a throw away event. AMAZONS ATTACK mattered, dammit! And so did COUNTDOWN, and DoNG, and all of the Brave New World relaunches, and OYL was a solidly executed idea, and who cares if the FLASH relaunch completely bombed, or that DC didn't publish WONDER WOMAN for like a year?

Quietly putting out 6 consecutive issues of BATMAN is about as likely as JG Jones doing all of the art for FINAL CRISIS.

    I really liked Joker

    Mostly

It was kind of nice to have a good graphic novel in the spirit of The Dark Knight (even though Azzarello has apparently stated that it wasn't really influenced by TDK) that made use of the extended cast of rogues and such. Art was really nice.

So this is just me: 100 Bullets started off alright, but wasn't AMAZING (to me) as it was to some. The middle chunk though... somewhere between 25 and 70... awesome. I haven't finished the last part, and it's almost over, so I'm waiting til then.

Don't know how interesting this will be, but I recently saw a Bat-Manga on the shelves at my bookstore. Looked pretty neat.
The campy, Pop-art-infused Batman television series that débuted in 1966 was not just a hit in the U.S.; it also set off an international wave of Batmania. A Tokyo publisher licensed the comic-book rights and new weekly Batman adventures appeared for more than a year, drawn by Jiro Kuwata, a manga prodigy who co-created the popular cyborg superhero 8-Man. His work, never reprinted and previously untranslated, was so little known here that, until its rediscovery by Kidd and Ferris, even DC Comics, Batman's publisher, was unaware of its existence. Kuwata, an action virtuoso, employed hypnotic geometrical motifs within his panels, incorporating realistic Batman and Robin figures into an exaggeratedly cartoonish style. His Batman fights villains like the shape-shifting Clayface and Go-Go the Magician, as well as typically Japanese oversized robots, insects, and dinosaurs.

    Anyone surprised?

It's more of an overview of Japanese Batman than a collection of stories or comprehensive history.

umm no from what I understand it makes sense

the people whining about it don't really understand that it's not a collection of stories, it's about Batman in Japan

besides it's not like they gave that mangaka the shaft or anything, he's accredited to the work he did in the book

So, saw some scans of Robin #181.
I dunno about you, but I actually smiled at the scan of the last page. If they plan to update the RR-suit that way, I don't mind at all. Here's a look at the suit in Countdown Vs Robin #181.

It's better, but I don't like all black, featureless cowls.

Course, without that it's just the Robin suit.

Maybe it would've been better to go the other way by keeping the old Red Robin suit but simply removing the cowl.
