I would like to see Tim take the cowl, and see the Batman franchise move back towards detective stuff. Solving mysteries and such. Not just beating the hell out of goons.
Batman has sort of gone the same direction that James Bond did. The original bond films are much more spy-ish. Anymore he's just a commando. The same is pretty much true about Batman. The detective, crime solving part has taken a backseat to him kicking the shit out of everyone.

I beg to differ. Before R.I.P. we had several mystery/detective stories in both Batman and Detective Comics. Although Tim seems to be a stronger detective than Dick, the latter did a fair amount of detective work in his own title, and the detective stories would not simply dry up with Dick under the cowl. (ehehe, I said, "Dick under the cowl.")

Am I really the only one who doesn't want anyone under the Cowl besides Batman himself?

Not really. It's actually a little hard for me to imagine this event ending in a way that is satisfactory. But, it will be interesting to try and guess where it's going.

I'm excited about the change, so long as we don't turn Bruce's successor into Bruce. I've been consuming one form of Batman media or another since childhood, and frankly the characterization of the broody, obsessive loner who occasionally demonstrates chinks in his emotional armor has gotten a little stale.

But if we want to go by characterization, Bats has made it explicitly clear that he doesn't want anyone taking up the mantle after he's gone.

So dini is going to write both Gotham City Sirens, focusing on Catwoman, Ivy and Harley with art by Nguygen, and Streets of Gotham, with Kate Spencer as DA for Gotham.

It seemed like, for a while, they were trending toward Cat-Woman not becoming a villian again, or at least being more in the middle. Did I imagine that, or did Editorial stop that, or what?

Read the Faces of Evil comic with her... she still seems fairly middle of the road to me.

Isn't Harley fairly middle of the road also? I mean, after her time with the Amazons?

Moving to the Batman line of titles, Sattler gave a quick rundown of the coming titles of Gotham City, starting with March’s Batman: Battle for the Cowl, which leads to a new Bat-Universe in June. Sattler the announced that Judd Winick will be the regular writer on Batman beginning in June.

Damien's sexual identity has not been spelled out yet. His fight with Robin always seemed tinged with sexual tension.

o_O My decision to quit all DCU books not written by Grant Morrison or containing the words 'Blackest Night' is vindicated.
Hahahaha what?
You mean why I'm 'quitting' most DCU books? I'm just sick of how much of a complete mess the DCU is (even the ones written by Geoff Johns) and when they throw Cass to the side is the point where I say "I'm done paying for this shit". Winick writing Batman just adds fuel to the fire (I hated Under the Hood by the way).
All my bat-hopes are dead now, although a different panel said that Morrison will be doing something with the multiverse once he gets back.

Winick is the least damaging to both characters and his worn out soap box when he writes Batman. That scarecrow arc he did with Nguyen was good, as well as the issues prior to Gang War.
It would have been nice if Tomasi and Kramer were the new creative team, especially if it's Dick under the cowl, but at least he has Outsiders to work with in the Bat-Family.
At least the rest of the Bat-books look really good.
Morrison on Batman and Robin
Tomasi on Outsiders
Dini on Gotham City Sirens and Streets Of Gotham
Rucka on Detective Comics
The only ones up in the air right now are Batgirl and Red Robin. Hopefully Batgirl will be Simone or someone else good, and probably Nicieza on Red Robin.

If they named Simone to Batgirl, I wouldn't know what to think, because she would not let Oracle become Batgirl ever.
Thanks for all the excellent replies on the last page guys! I think I'll start with Year One, since it is an origin comic, and I'm incredibly anal about starting at the beginning of things (even if I do know the batman origins for the most part :P ). After that, I'll check out Batman and the Monster Men, Year 100, and then possibly Long Halloween. Thanks again!!

alternately, batman year 100, batman: snow, city of crime.
I'd go with Batman and the Monster Men or Batman and the Mad Monk.
I guess Wagner's Batman stuff is really good too. How good is it, guys?
Thanks Keith!

Figured Batwoman was more his speed.

Well, he is british and likes looking after finely sculpted men and their nubile young boys.

Look, when I paid that guy and told him to take care of Winick, how was I supposed to know he'd just have sex with him?
