PC version will not be on the shelves until September 4th.
So one day before the 360 version here, then? :P
Anyone know how switching between mercs work? Can you go back to base or something?
If it's like Mercs 1 you chose a merc at the beginning, and never again. The real-world differences are really minor anyway; it's all in personality and dialogue. (hint: pick Jennifer)
Aye, you want to listen to Jennifer Hale with a Brit accent for the whole game.

Found it here, along with those three videos spliced together.
Looks like I'll be getting this when it's out for PC. Was really envious looking at the first Mercenaries on the Xbox, so there's no way I'll miss out on this :P
Ah. So that video that talked about Mattias calling in custom-built vehicles wasn't some special ability just he had?
They do have their own shit. Mostly airstrikes. Though I doubt you will ever be thinking 'damn I wish I had this instead of this'. Mainly just different 'flavours' of utility.
Again, hint: Pick Matthias if you want to blow shit up.
Much less satisfying than a fuel air bomb or even the MOAB. World in Conflict showed me that nukes are for cleaning house, not for tactical strikes. They will also cost a fuckton aswell. Why have one nuke when you could have twenty fuel air bombs for twice the price?
That's how I played the first Mercs. Why destroy shit with the appropriate bomb when you can do the same with an inappropriate bomb.

I had the same philosophy...but instead of economic efficiency, I went with overkill.

I played the first game as Matthias because he was crazy. But now that I know that Chris is played by Phil LaMarr (Green Lantern (John Stewart) from Justice League animated and Hermes Conrad from Futurama), he's gonna be my pick for the sequel.

Are the three characters still different from each other in the same way they were in the original game? Mattias ran at like twice the normal speed, Chris was able to take about twice as much damage, and Jennifer was more stealthy. I only really played through as Mattias, and I heard that Jennifer's stealthiness was kind of buggy and/or unimpressive.

Mattias' and Chris' buffs weren't double, and Jennifer's power made her harder to spot/her vehicles would switch to convert mode faster (really freaking handy.)
The only problem was, unless you played through multiple times, you never realized that the other merc's were different, so you never felt like, "Damn I wish I was playing Mattias to run faster." It was more like, "I wonder if the merc's are any differ-OH MY GOD DID YOU SEE THAT EXPLOSION."
I'm really excited for this game. I loved the first game, even though I've never beaten the story. I always get sidetracked blowing things up.
The second game is looking to deliver in a big way, from all the videos they've released lately. It looks like the chaos factor was ramped up significantly.

I will be getting it, although I can't guarantee exactly when. It's out in 2 weeks, I've already pre-ordered Too Human. I might have to wait a week or two after release.

Nukes in WiC are mostly for area denial, but they are also great for psychological warfare. Nothing says, "Game Over" like 3 nukes dropped at once.
Nukes are probably going to be a morale booster in Mercs 2 as well. You can't help but feel like a badass when you're standing in front of a mushroom cloud you're responsible for. Too bad there's no "I am become death" achievement.

Okay, now I can't get the image of Hermes as a merc out of my head.
I picked Mathias for Mercs 1, and I may or may not change for this time 'round. The problem was the his voice acting; specifically, it was terrible. I mean, you could hardly hear what he was saying, and it just felt so wrong, out of place.
At the same time I became attached a bit to Mathias, and I'm not sure I like the Asian British chick enough, and even though I usually move towards stealth in games this is Mercenaries after all. And the fact that Chris and Hermes are one and the same may sway me towards him.
But in the end, when I think Mercenaries I think of all the awesome adventures Mathias and I braved in the first game, so I'm guessing I'll end up as him in the end.
I think I would have really preffered a chance to create a mercenary. I don't remember much about the first's storyline, and I doubt this one will be any different.
I'll be playing as my fellow countryman Mattias, no contest about it. I might try out Jennifer at a later date if I feel like trying a semi-stealth playthrough.
The one thing disappointing about that video with the nuke is that those concrete barriers take rockets and tank shells and don't get scratched by it. I've been spoiled by BF:BC and RF:G in that regard
Bah. You kids with your consoles go and have your fun. We PC users will be tearing shit up just fine over here.
All two of us.
And I just remembered something I was thinking: are we going to have to play a different merc than the one that our co-op partner's using, or will they just have us use the second skin or let us choose whichever extra ones they've packed in?

I'm replaying Mercs 1 in preparation for next Sunday, and all I can say is that Mercs 2's soundtrack had better be as completely fucking epic as the Mercs 1 soundtrack.
I'm already buying a bunch of games in the coming months. Frankly Mercs 2 doesn't offer enough to differentiate it from its predecessor, other than co-op, to justify $60. I will only buy it if one of my friends agrees to play co-op with me. I'm not going to buy it in the hopes that maybe I'll play some co-op with people online. It's all or nothing, basically.

I wish to know this too. Co-op details seem to still be kept under wraps on their forum though.

Matthias in ethics.

Two ton bombs are not stealthy.

The way I see it, "stealth" is basically the enemy not realizing you're there until the missiles drop right on their heads.
Besides, you can't be detected if their already dead.
haha damn thats a good analogy.
are you grabbing the game? i need some uk arcadians to co-op like 10 games this fall.

Would he even use the heavy ordinance? Too expensive, I'd think.
"By the time we left, he had that war running so efficiently that all the fighting was being done by a single Australian man."
