Bah. You kids with your consoles go and have your fun. We PC users will be tearing shit up just fine over here.
    All two of us. :(

And I just remembered something I was thinking: are we going to have to play a different merc than the one that our co-op partner's using, or will they just have us use the second skin or let us choose whichever extra ones they've packed in?

I wish to know this too. Co-op details seem to still be kept under wraps on their forum though.

Actually there's plenty of co-op information in the videos and previews. As far as that question goes, the second player will have to choose a different mercenary than the first player. You can't play as the same mercenary.

The co-op in Mercenaries 2 is actually pretty simple. It's just drop in and out play. There's no special co-op menu everyone starts at or anything. If I want to play co-op, I can simply invite someone and he or she joins right into the game I'm playing. We won't be booted back to a starting point or base. I just keep doing what I was doing but with a second person.

It's pretty much the same as Fable 2. The second player joins the game I'm playing, and he or she can go back to their game with whatever weapons and money they've collected in mine. And I can't wait to play this game in co-op. I'm just going to have to be selfish and make sure it's my game so I can play as Matthias. :)

Buildings and objects do NOT respawn or reset unless the console is switched off. Storing location and damage information takes up almost zero memory and is incredibly easy to remember.

When you blow shit up in Mercs 2, it stays blown up until you turn the power off.

    Possible.

The motto of Mercs 2 from day one of development was 'Never say no to the player'

Everything, and I literally mean everything other than the terrain itself is destructible. Buildings, trees, bushes, crates, everything can be blown up, burned, shot, detonated and cut to shreds.

To describe what can be blown up it is much easier to list things that you can't destroy:

    - The terrain, ie the heighmapped ground beneath your feet upon which things have been built.

    That's it!

I absolutely love that you can drive through some trees. That always made me mad in other sandbox games. I just hope the physics demand that the impact has to be a certain amount of force, so you dont accidentally walk into a tree and have it fall apart.

actually, maybe that would be cool.

I'm replaying Mercs 1 in preparation for next Sunday, and all I can say is that Mercs 2's soundtrack had better be as completely fucking epic as the Mercs 1 soundtrack.

Are you using a 360 with backwards compatibility? I rented the original from Gamefly but after a few minutes of play the rader would get all "infinite mirror" on me and the game would eventually freeze up.

To borrow an earlier opinion, I really don't give much about realism. Just the "fun" part.
Man, I LOVE when devs are more concerned about making a fun, awesome game than making sure they don't put in anything game-breaking. Nuclear warheads? Assault chopper + battle tank combos? Rocket buggy? Grenade sportscar? Muscle car converted to a monster truck with nitro boost? Yeah, it's about as far from realism as you can get, but it's the same distance away from boring or monotonous. And you get so much cash from just destroying things that it doesn't look like having money for strikes or support drops will ever be a problem.

    Want. This. Game!

Wait, there is faction loss in this game?

Innocent bystanders just make the game fun. GTA, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Assassin's Creed...it's different fun then killing enemies...but killing things that don't fight back in games gives me sadistic joy. I don't know why, that's just the way it is.

I mean, you play Hitman: Blood Money. Sure, it's cool to read: "Silent Assassin strikes again!", but it's nowhere as hilarious as "MASS MURDERER SLAUGHTERS 72 PEOPLE!"

If you played the first Mercs game, you'd know the civilians were just a pain in the ass. They waltz in the middle of a firefight, and suddenly you have to beg for forgiveness and fork over thousands of dollars (dollars that could have been used on explosives!).

Although it was amusing to leave civilians handcuffed on the ground and experience no reprisals for it.

Hopefully they'll make the piracy and resale of captured equipment a bit more profitable in this game than last. What was it, like 50 grand for a good-condition heavy tank in Mercs 1? C'mon

I wonder if (minor Wikipedia pre-plot synopsis thing)
That chopper dude you can hire for your PMC can haul stuff off right to sale instead of adding it to a stock or whatever I assume he takes things off to.
It'd certainely help in giving you an extra bit of income to blow on the fun stuff.
