    And here comes the DLC:
Pandemic is releasing an explosive new update for Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. The "Total Payback" update will hit Xbox Live on October 13 and the PlayStation Network on October 20.
Here's what you'll get with the update:

Cheats -- Unlock the total-payback power of all weapons, vehicles and airstrikes in Mercenaries 2, as well as everyone's favorite: Infinite Ammo and Infinite Health
SIX New playable characters -- From Blanco to Fiona, Ewan, Eva, and more
Cross-region Co-Op multiplayer Support -- Tear through Venezuela with friends from around the world
Mercs 2 fans should also keep an eye out for new (presumably paid) downloadable content. Pandemic promises a briefing with more information soon. Check out 1UP's review of Mercs 2 to see whether we think the game is worth playing, cheats or not.

Well, the cross-region co-op stuff is cool, I guess. It probably should've been there from the beginning. I don't really care about playing as these new playable characters, and I've never cared much about cheats.

So, does that mean we might be seeing a 1.2 patch for the PC, or are they gonna' leave us mute bastards as-is?

The best part of Mercenaries 1 was cheating to get all the best stuff and lots of it and blowing shit sky high. I can't wait to go to UP headquaters and light the entire city up.

I suppose having unlimited nuclear bunker busters does have a certain charm about it. Maybe have a game session where every problem is solved with that weapon.

My brother just got this weird glitch where he started up his profile and got 13 achievements. They were mostly co-op related.

Its getting more and more common now that they seem to be shipping games in an incomplete but servicable state and releashing the rest of it later.

Where it is released for free, its not bad, but its definitely not good. As with my stance on downloading games in general, if something majorly fucks up in the future, its lost forever. So not having the Co-Op on the Fable 2 disc for example means that if everything goes belly up SOMEHOW, however unlikely, and theres no way to supply it, its gone, done, dusted and you, the customer, are fucked in the ass.

Yep. It should go away when you reload your game but be prepared for many more bugs to come.

If you read the post, the cross-region play is not DLC, it's part of the free update. They are just announcing the DLC will be forthcoming sometime in November.

As long as you don't enter a building, you should be able to load him into a car once you have him cuffed and drive around with him... keeping him alive long enough to actually raise your faction however... good luck. I just put a bullet in his head, he deserved it.

And that's an achievement that you don't want to try again on a second playthrough if you've been capturing all the HVTs up until now. I look forward to killing them all on my next playthrough...someday.

God, this fucking exit strategy mission! The Chinese officer gets killed by a rocket out of nowhere and now I go back to try it again and he fucking jumps off the building when I get close to it. What the fuck.

That mission is a son of a bitch. My strategy is to take a fast UP helicopter, come in fast and low, load him in real quick and then fly away before they fire too many rockets at you. Forget the bonus objective, it's just not worth it.

It was easy for me. Drive in, hijack a tank, kill everything, steal a helicopter, get it destroyed by the other 2 that are hovering around because I was reported a bajillion times, repeat until I have the last one, land it on top, load him in, take off and fly away.

That's the thing. Most of the time while I'm destroying creation in a tank, I just randomly lose the mission because the guy jumps off the roof with his hands and feet tied. Best to just beeline for him and skip past the shit.

I managed to finally do it. Used the fast UP chopper, went in quick and landed on the building. Then used rocket artillery to obliterate everything except the building.

Almost had a problem when AN troops dropped out of the sky (!) onto the rooftop and stole my chopper before I could load the guy onto it, but I stole it back and hitailed it out of there.

I'm not even sure the general counts as an HVT for that achievement, since you don't get paid for him... not sure though, and it would suck to find out the hard way.

That mission is kinda broke, if you fail it once, you need to reload. If you retry it, most of the time after that when you get close to the building, he jumps off to run to you. (See the zero punctuation review of mercs 2, pretty sure this is the mission he is bitching about)

I would kill myself if I was trying to take them all alive. Probably half of them have rocketed themselves, or been rocketed by their men, or leapt off buildings at me, or otherwise suicided.

The only HVT I've had trouble with so far (haven't done allied or chinese missions, just HVTs) is the Allied one on the oil rig. Dumb motherfuckers just launch rockets like crazy on there. I just called in rocket artillery on it since I had already accidentally saved after killing an HVT very early in the game.

I was actually trying to take Carmona alive, but one of his own men shot him with a tank shell instead. Lucky I didn't give a shit about taking them all alive, I'd blown up several by that point anyway. Always fun seeing the little blue indicator being thrown several hundred meters as dozens of rockets pound the base into dust. <3 the VZ hind

Carmona isn't all that hard to take alive. If you sprint right after the "cutscene", you can pull him out of his jeep, then kill his men and subdue him. Only complication arrives from other jeeps arriving, but if they kill him you can just kill yourself and retry from the end of the cutscene.

If you miss him them, you can drive to where his helo is and move/destroy it, he will still pop out of his jeep when he gets there, but obviously, he won't have one to jump into to get away, and he will be on foot.

Has anyone noticed on the 360 version after the latest update, the backup that Fiona always says is coming when a hostile faction reports in is... kind of working?

I never see a sudden influx of ground troops, but now after that happens, an enemy helicopter shows up. The PLAV seem to send in one of their transports, but China always sends one of their light attack helicopters, and it can actually do damage.
