So, I find that I can't do any of the setsuka combos in the movie.
I play some NM myself, and I'll let you in on a little secret: There's a shortcut that most players use. aG+A will get you it, just practise a little and you'll have it no problem.
either way just sidestep until you get an opening to do some damage. its the most ridiculously avoidable move ever if you just throw it out there all the time. especially if its follow up by the BBB combo (which spammers just love to do), which is also intensely sidesteppable.
So, I've got a question.
Do you have to double tap in a direction to sidestep quickly, or is there something I'm missing here? I find that sometimes when I try to sidestep, I easily move out of the way, othertimes I just get knicked by an attack and sucked back into a combo.
Also, is there some sort of trick in the 360 version for sidestepping upwards? I'm really getting sick of trying to sidestep while my back is to the edge, jumping instead, then getting hit off the ledge.
The only way you can jump is if you hold down guard and press up at the same time. So, if you don't want to jump, don't press guard and up. You don't have to double tap up or down to side step. Just press the button.(8 way runs excluded) The reason some attacks will hit you is because they are horizontal. All horizontal attacks (x attacks) will hit people that sidestep. Vertical attacks (Y attacks) will miss.

Hmm... well, I'll have to be more aware of what I'm pressing when I'm trying to sidestep. However, I am able to jump without pressing guard, that I know for a fact.

Certain moves jump. Also, every character has default jumping attacks, 7/8/9 A/B/K.
To do a regular jump, you have to be holding guard when you tap 7/8/9.
As for sidestepping, only tap the direction you want to step in once. It's more effective.
So the guys in the Tower of Souls knock me out of the ring so much. Once I was close to the middle of the ring and was knocked out. :x
Also: How do I defeat these guys that have Auto Impact and Auto Grapple break?
As Feels Good Man says, it's the attack throw that you want. Once they get hit with the attack, the resulting throw can't be broken. Siegfried has crouch throws that actually count as attack throws, as well as 1B. Nightmare has the same crouch throws and FC3B.
Don't worry, you're not the only person frustrated with that stage. The upside, though, is that throws and attack throws cause the same amount of damage regardless of your attack stat. So, you might want to create a high health / defense character. HP drain helps too.
Yeah, this combined with Auto Unblockable attack and the fact that the crouch throw can ring out works pretty well.
keep getting my shit icked playing as siegfried. people get inside my range and owns me.
Try 3, this move is fast, at the beginning it TC, and you get free combo if its a counter hit.
Is that the one that sends them up into the air? Usually I can do a decent job at the start, but if they manage to get inside at all I'm just plain owned. I'm so discouraged, I'm thinking of switching characters.
MAN. I was playing online last night, beating the mashers and the siegfried 1 move spammers, but I faced a level 60 Ivy player twice and he OWNED me both times. I only won 1 round against him. There's a huge combo he kept doing that'd take off half of my life, then he'd end it with an unblockable attack (which sometimes he got in my head and I kept blocking). It was hardcore. Not sure how to even counter that except to GI.

Thanks though
Siegfried is my main, and I can tell you that he doesn't have a lot of moves that can interrupt other people. His most reliable pokes are B:6, 6K (stun on counter; combo into 3,A+B), 4K (slower, but it's a TC and pushes back), 1K (even slower, but it crouches and hits low), or 2A (too slow to be a poke, but it has great reach to discourage enemies advancing from the outside).
Really, you shouldn't be trying to out-poke anyone with Siegfried. Give yourself advantage with sidesteps, ducks and GI. Alternatively, if you're more suited to faster styles, switching characters wouldn't be a bad idea either. Of course, the grass is always greener on the other side.

Maybe her whip (hold)A+B? The one were the sword like snakes out along the ground, I'm not completely sure on the input. This move really ruins peoples' days, but it doesn't do epic amounts of damage at least.
You can't step it, duck it, or jump it. If you're far back to begin with, a backdash / backjump might save you. If it's too late to evade, unblockables can be Just Impacted, but it's not easy.
edit-- characters with teleport moves can get off scot free of course. Also, if he's doing it to you on wakeup and given the range, you know it will hit, do not get up. If it hits you grounded, it will deal less damage.

It is always greener on the other side, I alway jealous of slow character's range and damage output every time when I lose half of my health just so Amy can get into short range (just to get knock back all the way to the other side of the screen again).
Play Sophie if you really want best of both world, mid range, big damage, good low/high mix up, and speedy. I would play her if she's not soooo overpowered.

He does seem very overplayed - but who else would I play? Yun-seong? I did like Hwang way back in SCII, and maybe Hilde - she seems like a classy lady. Amy?

I've been toying with Mitsurugi. He seems pretty versatile.
He is very versatile. Good mixups.
However, he is also very overused. Continue at your discretion.
I don't use him much anymore since I moved to Setsuka, but it was my learning character on online play.
My friend plays Mitsurugi quite a bit, and I can never beat him.
Except with Setsuka, which is appropriate I guess.
I practice as Mitsurugi for those occasions I need to destroy the opponent
But I'm learning Yoshimitsu now too since he is wicked awesome, and that'll also give me the option of killing myself and my opponents at will. Double KO FTW.
I've given up on online play altogether though. I just can't win, I haven't played a game without a 1/4 second button delay (4 bar game my ass!) since the first week the game was out. Can't pull off moves.. can't sidestep anything.. can't GI anything.
does cervantes have any good (or just any, i guess) high/low mixups? i havent found any, i dunno. all his low moves are telegraphed to hell and back. there are a couple good ones but still.
I mean, on the 360, having a silver account just to friend people from Penny Arcade who have the game. Thus we just add one account to our friend's list to find people to play rather than 40.

No, nothing like that exists, and I don't really see the need. All the GTs are in the OP, and if you friend one of them then you'll have access to most of the others who are actually active.
I've been toying with Mitsurugi. He seems pretty versatile.
Mitsurugi doesn't excel at any one thing, but he's very good at everything. His mixup game is good, and his damage potential is high. However, anybody who's played Soul Calibur before has a good idea of his range of moves, so you're starting at a disadvantage of knowledge, even if you're using the "better" character.
Rock, eh? Are you joking or serious? I would pursue him. I've barely encountered him - though I have seen many Mitsurugis, Knightmares, and Sophitias.
rock is basically worthless, in my experience
I want to like Rock, since Astaroth is one of my favorite characters, but his moves are enough like Astaroths to trick me into doing the same button presses but then he ends up doing some crazy move that doesn't work at the same range.
he was good in Soul Edge if memory serves, i played as him a lot anyway. i wish they had kept him as the main and made Astaroth the shitty "other" version, personally. hes just cooler than Astaroth. dude wears a rhino head for gods sake.
