Every time I get an upgrade, my overheal climbs a little bit more.

I'm really down on +heal enchants these days, it's a bit of a shame that some slots don't really have any viable options that aren't +heal.

I dunno, I'm really happy with it. It makes stocking up on regen less painful when you can't help but keep your +healing high.

So made a premade priest on the ptr and trying out a pvp healer. Finding it pretty difficult and could use some general advice.

Also if I get blessed resilliance, do I really need to get any resiliance gear? Oh yea, and that talent that gives you a free smite when you crit, is it worth it?

Resillience gear harms you more than it helps you if you have Blessed Resillience. By preventing you from being crit once, it may prevent Blessed Resillience from triggering, thus causing you to be crit many many more times than you would have been.

Surge of Light is excellent, though. It can trigger from rank 1 Holy Nova crits. That rank costs less than 200 mana and hits as many targets as there are nearby. With decent gear and Holy Specialization, you're almost guaranteed a crit if it affects more than five targets. It's very nice for PvE, and can be useful in PvP if you know you can safely spam Holy Nova without breaking any CC. Currently it's bugged so that the instant Smite still costs mana and can crit, but I think they fixed that in the patch.

Crits that would have landed on you but are prevented by your resilience cause Blessed Resilience to proc anyway. So it's possible to spend minutes chaining Blessed Resilience if you have a high enough resilience value.

At least, that's what I was told by the highest rating holy priest on my server. I havn't noticed this, but then I only have about 200 resilience, while he has somewhere over 400.

That is how I thought it worked too. But there is a blue post confirming that crits stopped by resillience cannot trigger the "on-crit" talents. It's in this thread somewhere, maybe ten pages back.

Hmm, that's strange. This guy claimed that he'd gone 5v5's without ever being crit due to chained Blessed Resilience. Maybe it was hotfixed, or he was wrong.

The game will pick one random "on crit" talent to proc when blessed resilience blocks you from getting crit. If you have martyrdom, recovery, and resilience and only one of them appears on you.. that means your resilience stat blocked a crit.

If all three go off, resilience had no effect.

I've verified this myself, and have both martyrdom and blessed resilience.

Well, the thing is, resillience also adds a small chance for the on-crit talents to trigger on-hit instead. We have no information regarding how small of a chance it is, but with over 400 resillience it might be enough to proc Blessed Resillience so consistently on hits that you are never crit, not even to activate the ability. This is still much riskier than having it guaranteed to proc when crit, but you may on occasion avoid the initial crit to trigger the ability. In my opinion, it's still more of a penalty than a bonus, and resillience should only convert the crit to a hit for damage purposes, not for on-crit talent checks. Also, since each on-crit talent makes this on-hit check separately, you can't get Martyrdom and Blessed Resillience (for example) on the same hit unless you're very lucky.

Here is the blue post: http://blue.cardplace.com/newcache/us/110535762.htm

edit: xzzy, that's another false theory I had until I read that blue post.

I'm sure there isn't because if there was, more people would talk about it, but is there a half decent leveling build that would not require me to lose ability as a healer? I'm only 45 and have quite a bit more leveling to go, but I did choose this class to heal and I'd like to be better at it.

though honestly I think a better question is, will there be a point before 70 where Holy becomes viable? or even, at 70 when I still have dailies and whatnot to worry about? it seems like I'm going to be stuck in shadow forever.

You can heal your way to 70 as shadow. I understand what you're saying about wanting to be better at it. But holy sucks for anything but healing, IMO.

I leveled from 38 to 60 pre-TBC and 60-64 post-TBC as Holy. It's just as fast as Shadow at killing, but the mana inefficiency hurts it. Soloing daily quests at 70 as Holy can be obnoxious at times (the Netherwing ones at least - the Skettis/Blade's Edge ones are cake for any class), but aside from that, it's not bad.

As for leveling Holy, I'd say something like this for 45 (make sure you use a lot of +spirit gear, not only for spirit tap, but for +damage as well), this for 60, and if you don't go Shadow once you start collecting some +damage gear, then something like this at 70. Put the last point wherever you see fit. Lightwell may be decent, since it's getting benefit from +healing in 2.2.

So I'm told that healing as a holy priest is stupidly easy... that fosters the idea in my head that I should be able to do some pretty ridiculous things with my healing, if I have the skill.

However, I've never really leveled a healer in WoW, so I have no idea what sort of shit I can pull.

It's not easy anymore. Heroics and raids will put a huge strain on you. Your biggest heal will be maybe 1/3 a decent tank's health.

If you want easy no brain healing, go paladin. Put flash of light on whatever hotkey you don't care about wearing out because you'll be using it a lot.

Paladin healing has left me pretty unappreciated in raids, especially recently with all of our other Priests disappearing, leaving me the sole Holy/Disc Priest in raids. We have one Hunter who always displays damage and healing meters after every wipe or boss fight. I'm usually assigned to help a Paladin and a Resto Druid heal the MT during boss fights.

During a Maulgar attempt, the Paladin was spamming heals and overhealing so much that any 'normal' heal like a Greater Heal, Healing Touch, or Regrowth was basically useless. The MT we were healing actually ended up higher on the healing meters than both the Druid and I simply due to the fact that most of the healing he was actually receiving from us was from either Lifebloom or Prayer of Mending.

Nobody wants to admit it, but with as many Holy Paladins in the guild as we have, the only reason I'm even being invited to raids is:

a.) To fill out 25 people
    b.) Buffs
    c.) Shackles in Karazhan

I can't even get into guild Heroics anymore due to the number of Paladins that either start the groups, or immediately get invited. It's a very depressing situation and was the big deciding factor behind me recently canceling my account. I'll probably be back after a few months, but I really need the break.

I really wish the combat log and damage meters had a way of accounting for that.

Same here. If you split the healing the MT "did" in half and attributed it to both of us though, we come fairly close to being even with the Spamadin.

Our nice little programmer in guild made a mod or program or something to tweak our WWS logs, that gives credit for lifeblooms, PoM, even Leader of the Pack, to the classes that cause them.

No one ever beats our resto druids on the meters, or it's rare.

I started feeling a lot less like a fifth wheel on raids when I got CoH. It's unbeatable for healing up ae splash damage, especially if your groups are divided by class (ie, a melee dps group, caster group, etc). Two casts can heal off most every AE hit that's out there.

I never, ever top heal meters but then I've never cared about that.

Once I noticed I'm generally one of the last couple healers with mana when fights go bad I figured I was pulling my weight no matter what meters say. I tend to catch some flak for not using flasks and pots but at least I'm alive healing people, unlike some of the others.

    They need educating then.

Keeping people alive will improve raid dps FAR more than improved divine spirit will. Most classes treat spirit as a garbage stat anyways, and their spirit will be so low they won't get more than 20 damage out of it. A quick check of casters in my guild reveals only 1 out of 10 has an unbuffed spirit over 130.

Well, 50 more spirit when you already have 400, is going to return the same mana as if you had 100 base. The spirit calculation for a class is going to be much more important than how much base spirit they have.

It's between 10 and 12.5 additional per 2 seconds (outside FSR) depending on which class you're talking about. I'm not going to say this is useless, but if it's down to a choice between people surviving and people not having to use mana pots.. I'd go with people surviving any day.

i think imp div spirit is what xzzy was talking about, and i'm beginning to agree. i've specced back and forth between imp div spirit and CoH quite a few times, but honestly the different is minor in a raiding environment (so it feels). The major difference is 5mans/heroics, which practically makes CoH useless.

I think CoH would be a no-contest must have for a raiding priest if the healing crossed group boundaries.

A "smart" AE heal is extremely useful in the fast paced fights we're dealing with now.

It really should. Chain heal sucked before it got smart, I don't see why CoH wouldn't get a similar change.
