I never really understood if the creature creator is for people who want to create creatures before the actual release of the game (like a demo, in a way), or if I actually need it to create creatures for use in the actual game?
By the way, just pre-ordered the special edition. Can't wait!
Tried searching, but I may fail at it.

Theres a thread here somewhars, but the creature creator is essentially a demo of... the creature creator. So you don't need it to play Spore, just helps pass the time.
It's the same Creature Creator that will be in the full game. You use it to create creatures, those creatures are then uploaded to a server where they will be used to populate players games.
Long story short, you get to play a tiny, tiny chunk of Spore early and can use what you do in that with the full game, though it's not necessary if you just want to wait for the full game.

No its not necessary but only costs like $10 if it was more I wouldn't have bought it I know.

The creature creator is a complete stand-alone version of the creator in Spore. It has all the parts and tools you'll have to make creatures in the retail game. It'll save your creature files as .pngs that you can simply put into Spore or load onto Sporepedia for others to use. The program is integrated into the full version of Spore and you'll have to uninstall CC to install Spore.
The demo of the CC on the other hand is free. It only contains 1/4th of the parts and textures but it gives a very good encompassing demonstration of how the creator works, and you can make quite a few good creatures with it.
How anyone semi-interested in Spore could not have tried to get at least the CC demo by now I have no idea. It certainly has gotten me through the last 2 months of waiting so far.
I dunno about that. I have it certainly, but I get bored with it very easily... in fact, I just uninstalled it from my laptop. Can't wait for the game, but the CC only interested me for so long.

...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.

Yea, I played with it for about 2 or 3 days before getting bored of it. Thankfully the rest of my family continued to use it for a couple weeks so I feel I got my $10s worth of it.
