We're aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we're looking into it. Stay tuned for updates.
PSN status update: We're narrowing down the issue and continue to work to restore service to all. Updates as soon as we have them.
PSN status update (part 2): Readers/followers are confirming that "slim" units (120/250 GB models) are connecting normally.
mspencer's stupid joke comment: heads up to all you guys competing on The Tester. Whoever wins . . . well I hope you like resetting the PS3 system clock. Because while nobody could have seen this coming and I don't really fault Sony for having a problem like this happen, I imagine every console manufacturer for the next hundred years will have test/QA managers making people test for correct operation on a variety of mathematically "special" dates.
("I don't fault Sony" meaning: obviously they made a mistake and their mistake caused problems. People use past history of mistakes as a future predictor of mistakes, and I don't think this mistake predicts lots of future Sony OS and network service programmer mistakes. It predicts a lot of OS and network service programmers' lives becoming pure hell for the forseeable future, but that's life.)
I just think it's funny because the same thing happened with the Zune.
Is there any possible scene where Blake gets some kind of karmic payback for being a pain in the ass for pretty much the entire game?
I was hoping they'd reveal that he'd been helping Shelby stay under the radar (which would help explain his refusal to listen to anyone saying "Actually, we have proff that the guy you're trying to shoot on sight isn't guilty")and give me the chance to 'accidentally' shoot him, or at least give me a button prompt to kick him in the nads.
As it was, when they cut to the talk-show ending, I was afraid he was about to be held up as the hero who cracked the case.
The Shelby thing does work in theory, as looking back, he's both posing as a PI so he can get any pieces of evidence left lying around, and investigating one of the murders.
One of the murders that the press is calling an Origami killing is one he knows he didn't commit, so that's why he's going after Gordi Kramer.
I have a few nit-picks:
How did Madison find Ethan in the Lizard Trial? I get that she was trying to get the story, but there was nothing to say how she knew where he was.
And was something supposed to have happened to Shauns mom? After she went to the station to tell Blake that her husband was the Origami Killer (yeah thanks for that), she never showed up again.
Still, this was way better than Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy.
I remember thinking as I was going to visit
Ann Shepard
"Okay, if she turns into The Internet, I am taking this game right back to the store."
As a mental exercise, I'm going to try to list all the clues that point towards the killer's true identity throughout the game off the top of my head. Let me know if I'm missing any.
Obviously, huge spoilers ahead.
The wheezing and difficulty keeping up of Shelby's younger self in the flashback scene (explaining why we see his inhaler early in the story and then never again, so we don't put the two together easily)
The typewriter on Shelby's desk.
The origami magazine on Shelby's desk
The increasingly suspicious lack of information on Shelby's employers
The awkward, angry exchange between him and the shopkeeper when the man claims he couldn't have done anything to save his son
He doesn't call the cops when a lady tries to kill herself, just gets her well enough to tell her if there were any clues and leaves her alone in the house with a baby
His increasing desire for Lauren to leave him alone
Lauren, a random whore, comes up with several simplistic ideas (cross-referencing the two customer lists chief among them) that Shelby, an ex-cop and seasoned detective, appears to miss entirely
Shelby greets each of these aforementioned ideas/suggestions with reluctance, annoyance, and even anger
The strange lack of information on Shelby's motives beyond finding clues in his internal monologue
The conspicuous scene in the typewriter shop where the camera focuses on Lauren, the clocks all go off, and suddenly Shelby seems out of sorts and anxious
Shelby tells her to leave the list they came to get in the typewriter shop, despite it taking literally seconds to pick it up
Shelby's strange non-reaction to the mob boss's idiot kid's "confession"
Fits Jayden's profile exactly
Shelby's complete lack of acknowledgment regarding new developments in the case released to the public (Ethan's supposed guilt especially)
We never see Shelby seriously investigate any of the clues he collects
The typewriter on Shelby's desk. - Maybe a hint, but a terrible one. The typewriter he actually uses is in his hidden office.
The origami magazine on Shelby's desk - I guess, but I totally bought that that was part of the investigation considering he had a list of all of the subscribers in the area.
The awkward, angry exchange between him and the shopkeeper when the man claims he couldn't have done anything to save his son - This clue is fine, except that it's meaningless if you don't already know the ending.
He doesn't call the cops when a lady tries to kill herself, just gets her well enough to tell her if there were any clues and leaves her alone in the house with a baby - This I don't get. If the guy left to go find his son, and presumably died in the trials, why the hell did he leave the phone at home?
His increasing desire for Lauren to leave him alone - This I completely missed. I saw an awkward romance here, and a desire to simply keep her out of hars way.
The conspicuous scene in the typewriter shop where the camera focuses on Lauren, the clocks all go off, and suddenly Shelby seems out of sorts and anxious - This is probably the one hint I actually picked up on, though I didn't know what it meant at the time. The clip of this in the ending made everything click a lot better for me.
Shelby's strange non-reaction to the mob boss's idiot kid's "confession" - I thought it was pretty obvious the kid was being sarcastic, and thought it would be pretty obvious to shelby
I deleted the items that I thought were fine, or didn't have any comment on.
Norman died for me, in the ending, and Blake got his ARI glasses. He futzes back and forth a while about whether he should put them on, and finally does. Looks around, thinks it's pretty awesome, then Norman's "ghost" walks up to him and the camera cuts away. -- If you missed the completely spoilered ARI conversation, the general consensus is that ARI drives you stark raving mad, which is why norman was using the drugs in the first place - to fend off the madness. It can also apparently kill you if you use it too much.
There may be another scene related to what you asked, but I've only been through once.
I've got the "Registration of the trophy information could not be completed" error too.
I don't really use PSN at all for what it's worth. Oh well, guess there isn't anything I can do about it right now.
Were these ever explained? Why did Ethan have an origami figure in his hand whenever he woke up?
Shelby
Once Ethan made it to the end, why did Shelby still want to kill him? Hadn't he proved himself a good father? Wasn't that all Shelby wanted to find?
For the first question
It was never fully explained, but early one it was at least hinted it may have been the result of his coma.
For the 2nd question you read my mind
Thats one thing I really disliked about the ending. I guess Shelby didn't want to go to jail, but still, what the fuck was the point of all this if he just killed him? Well, i guess it's just safe to say, the guy kills kids, who knows what goes on in that mind.

Shelby tried to kill Ethan for you guys at the ending? That's pretty stupid. I thought the poison wasn't lethal so Ethan could live together with Shaun as a reward for passing the trials.
In my game Shelby got tackled by Norman, but he didn't seem to have any intentions of killing Ethan before that.
Norman tackled shelby because he pulled a gun on Ethan
As to the first question:
I'll accept that the coma fucked his brain up. But yes, why the dreams of drowning victims? Water had nothing to do with anything for him. Also did they ever show one of his visions of drowning people on camera? This is why I thought the psychologist was doing it. I thought he was causing the blackouts with drugs or something, and planting the origami figures. And I thought he was lying out his ass about the drowning visions.
Also.. Does anyone in the US actually pronounce it or-ih-gaam-ee?
At least in my region it's always or-ih-gah-mee.
This bothered me.

My ending:
Ethan saves Shaun and Shelby shows up just after.
They have a conversation, Shelby says Ethan is the only one to prove himself to be a worthy father, a father he never had.
A disgusted Ethan pulls a gun on Shelby. Shelby says he doesn't care if he's killed or not, he's found what he was looking for in Ethan.
You're given the option to shoot Shelby or put the gun away. I put the gun away because Ethan never seemed like a killer to me (I let the dealer live as well).
Shelby walks away and is later killed by Lauren.
Ethan is shot by the police as he leaves the warehouse.

Norman had died at this point, it's discussed earlier in the thread.
Madison didn't show up, no. I guess I didn't find the address of the warehouse while she was in Shelby's apartment.
Jesus! Out of all the characters this poor sap is the hardest to keep alive. He's the only character to die on me in a playthrough... and he died 3 freakin times! (I reloaded chapters when he died)

In my game, Norman died in the fight with Shelby. It was the only major QTE in the game I failed, too. I reloaded the last scene though. Ethan, Shaun and Madison survived, figured I might aswell get the "best"ending.
How do I finish the game with all four characters alive?
For the trophy?
I'm fairly sure I got it with Ethan, Madison, Norman and Shaun alive. Shelby and Lauren were dead. I don't think there's a way for all of the 4 playable characters to survive.

Ending permutation question:
So what happens if you send Ethan to the wrong address, but get Nahman and Maddy to the warehouse?
Can either of them save the kid? What happens to Scott?
How do I finish the game with all four characters alive?
I think people are confused about this. I assume you mean the "Four Heroes" trophy. I'll explain my experience.
Major Spoilers, folks!!!!!
On my first playthrough straight through the game, Madison, Jayden, Ethan, and Scott all made it to the warehouse. Ethan succeeded in saving Shaun, but Madison failed her motorcycle QTE and was arrested and thrown in the police car, and Jayden was killed by Scott and got away Scott-free. Ethan comes out alone and is shot by Blake and the other policemen.
I got the "So Close..." trophy for this which is "Reach the end with all characters… and fail."
Then I reloaded ONLY the Warehouse. I succeeded in Madison's QTE. Then I succeeded with Jayden's on the conveyor belt. My Scott, however, died. I still got the Four Heroes trophy from this course of events.
I'm honestly not sure if the "four heroes" includes Scott or Shaun. Probably Shaun. It's a bit of a parlor trick - if you see the name of the "four heroes" trophy before you finish the game, you assume they are including Scott.
Once Ethan made it to the end, why did Shelby still want to kill him? Hadn't he proved himself a good father? Wasn't that all Shelby wanted to find?
There are two options here, depending on how you played.
1) You did all the trials and proved yourself worthy. However, the poison was fake, because it's extremely difficult to make something that kills you in 1 hour but doesn't cripple you during that time. So he's going to finish you off and get your kid out, fulfilling his last trial manually: you trade your life for your son's.
2) You didn't do all the trials, and he's killing you as a result. His speech beforehand only indicates he had high HOPES for you, not that you fulfilled said hopes. Doing enough trials to figure out the rest on your own isn't good enough for Shelby.

Can you get that trophy with a dead Lauren? Has anyone tested it? This question comes up a lot.

My buddy received the Collector's Edition today, which he promptly shipped to me for review. The total for expedited overseas shipping came up to $14.50, which is a freaking bargain considering how rare and overpriced this item has quickly become.
I'm hoping to receive this by Friday. I also hope the PS3 issues get sorted out by then.
Okay, beat the game. I'm not completely satisfied with my ending.
Ethan, Shaun and Madison are now a happy family. Jayden died in a fight with Shelby who ended up surviving and escaping the cops. Also, Lauren died in the drowning car incident and Scott fucking rage his way through Kramers mansion.
Jaydens death affected me a lot more than anything else in the game. It was quite surprising. He worked so hard to prove Ethans innocence. He risked his job and his life and in the end he wasn't able to arrest Scott and he was murdered. I felt that he died in vain and justice was unserved.

Whether or not Lauren drowns, Scott goes fucking rage mode through the mansion, and yes. Jayden is by far my favorite character. He does so much, and yet, everyone hates him.
Oh hey look, Sam's still trolling the thread, who saw this coming?
That article lost all credibility when it said HR has PS2-era graphics. And again when it says the reveal in HR contradicts the things before it, because that's objectively wrong.
I skimmed it. It's an example of terribly-written games journalism. I'm not just saying that because I like Heavy Rain. That review is clearly yellow journalism.
I haven't played Heavy Rain much; I saw the demo and I've watched some footage. So I've no allegiance or vested pride.
Funny scathing games journalism is only funny when it actually has a decent point to make. This article is all method, no substance, and damages any credible stuff it puts forward due to the slash-and-burn approach to writing. Does nothing for me.
The funny thing about people bitching about how the killer reveal contradicts the character and comes out of left field is that the person who did that lets play on youtube who didn't read any spoilers was able to correctly figure it out based on that character's actions and the clues.
I am ashamed that I read down to the part where he writes about Heavy Rain ripping off Deadly Premonition, because they both have.. PS2 era graphics? Wait, I feel an interrobang is needed here: ‽, there.
Is it mere coincidence that Heavy Rain was released on the same day as Deadly Premonition? No, friends, it is not. It's obvious that Quantic Dream was just watching Deadly Premonition and copying everything it did. Both games have seen huge delays and it's clear that Heavy Rain's postponements were just to keep in time with Deadly Premonition, so that Quantic Dream could rip it off at every stage of development. It's not just convenient that Heavy Rain happened to release at the same time as Deadly Premonition. It's downright incriminating.
The dude's not a fan of Heavy Rain, for sure, but please tell me you guys aren't taking this seriously.
