Having played through the garage demo multiple times, I was worried that everything was a lot less open-ended than it seemed. I was assured it wasn't.
Obviously some of my favourite games are completely linear experiences. But a mask of choice over a linear game is not what they've been selling for the past year.
How many 'scenes' is that? How do you know what you do doesn't differently affect later scenes? I mean, I'm pretty sure the games going to be quite linear, but this doesn't sound like a game that demos well to show you everything the game will do.
Don't make me lose faith in this game. I am so excited! I am all about the story and the control method and then I hear all this "voice acting is terrible" and "game is short" and I feel the tears coming on.
I gotta say that video didn't win me over, teeth-brushing mini-game? It seems inconsistent, like tedious controls for some movements and then not for other similar movements. It certainly looks pretty though.
Have to say though that
when he opened the door looking for his wife and she wasn't there I felt worried to as I can see where that is probably going
You're not missing much if you didn't see the video. He pissed, took a shower, brushed his teeth, then just walked around the house activating little scenes with objects.

As a fan of Dexter, I think I'd almost rather play the Origami Killer DLC. Unfortunately, I have a hunch that if he picks a person to die, they won't be a child murderer or something.
I have heard that this game is a great game to play as people watch. Others can enjoy it like it is a movie, while the player enjoys it for it being a game. It could form a bridge for my wife and I.
I also hate the wii and the sixaxis and eventually I'll hate the sony thing and natal for cramming in stupid motion minigames where they don't belong. It hurts to see that they've crammed them into heavy rain.
im very interested in this game but i havent seen anything that convinces me it will actually be fun to play. i dunno, have to wait and see how i feel about it when its actually out i guess.
Bought a gaming magazine for the first time in years, just for the heavy rain review. Ironically I didn't even read the whole thing, as I'm starting a blackout on the game. There's a little section at the end that adds up what they think the influences are, and one of them is Se7en.
I really hope the end of this game can reach the level of

This will be Day 1'd ... Played and beat IP from a bargain bin pick up a while back and loved it for what it was. The game was so drastically different than anything else that even though the ending was pure crap, it was still a great game to play.
I'm extremely looking forward to this one because not only has Cage learned from his mistakes, but he should have finally fleshed out a story that makes sense and the first one was pretty compelling up until all the flashbacks and sillyness.
Interesting interview. It's odd to me when a game designer specifically says he would be happy if people would just play the game once and never pick it up again to see what would have happened if they'd done things differently.
But I do kind of get what he means. Some people are going to replay a scene over and over until they get the outcome they like/their character is still alive. I think I'll take his recommendation the first time through.
Meanwhile, your kids are watching you play as a woman running away from a madman who wants to kill her. And you throw up over the side of the couch. Your kids are gonna need therapy after that, I reckon.

Incidentally, grandma is taking the kids on a vacation from release day until I have finished the game

February 23rd
With the PAL release on the 26th of February.
Episode 1 of the Heavy Rain Chronicles should come out the same week too, since a DLC code for it is being packed in the PAL Collector's Edition.
What are you basing this on?
The glowing previews it's received?
Yes.
And the demo I played at PAX.
Tears, people!

Finally, sixaxis brushing.
Still deciding if I want this or not. Gonna wait for the reviews.
Anyway, what's this about short length? Has it been said exactly how long it is?
I imagine a lot of the first playthrough will probably be spent exploring and clicking every pointless little thing.
Have to say though that
REMOVED!!
I KISS YOU!
Ah well, still looking forward to it.
Might even get my wife to play this one. She's a CSI/Criminal Minds junkie.

I was food poison sick on MW2 Release day.
Still went anyway. In retrospect..it was a bad move.
My wife can still go out and get it for me
And I won't have any pesky day-to-day concerns besides occasionally vomiting in a nearby bucket to interrupt my Heavy Rain playthrough
Because I totally won't be playing hookey

Just kidding, I'm gonna make them watch
You know, I really hope we have an option for smacking that kid.
Also, I can't be the only one scared of clowns.
Dear god that clown is terrifying
