Anyway im' glad they aren't making a PC version because it bodes slightly better for the next Jedi Knight game.

Really? I took away the exact opposite. LA are pretty much avoiding the PC out of the fear of piracy, at least that's my guess. If there were to be any future JK game, I'd expect it to be more tailored towards console play in terms of gameplay mechanics and control. Which is effectively what Force Unleashed is to a large extent.

the 3rd JK game was largely a letdown anyway.

now if the did a JK game with EU characters....

    ......

    .........

    They did.

    i mean jacen jaina etc...

real characters not just another no-name jedi with katarn and luke in the game...

My point is that Katarn and Ors and Tavion and everyone else were already EU.

yeah but every time i read katarns name in a book i get the feeling that he really shouldnt be there, it would be like refering to luke and leias trip to mimban (sp?) in splinter of a minds eye... its just... odd.

i still mean jacen/jaina and other "main" EU characters btw.

*cough* Make Legacy of the Force *cough*

Seriously, that would be a kick ass game. Jacen's angry force using, Jaina's more controlled fightstyle, Luke with the saber +shoto to fight Lumiya and random levels as what's his name in the Basalisk armor with the crushing gauntlets.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, that's some tastey Star Wars video gaming right there.

i would prefer they didnt make a book into a game, that usually doesnt end well (see harry potter and lotr story games)

but doing something inbetween the young jedi knights series and the vong war would be awesome.

or after the vong war and before dark nest....

after that it gets too abstract to stay with the canon and come up with a new story that casual starwars fans can love.

introducing the solo children in a game would be great.

Here's what I know about Force Unleashed going into it.
I love the Force Powers. I love the character. I love the story, as presented in the graphic novel.
    I loved the demo.

The EGM review does not give me the information I need for me to sympathize with the points it tries to make.
A 'shield' prevents the use of my Force powers. Something preventing use of Force powers is NOT unusual in Star Wars. Whether it be a sonic weapon that can devastate concentration or a biological entities that were written in as invisible to the Force, or actively negating it.

There's also much, much more to do in sandbox games. Larger worlds aren't really a problem there...San Andreas was a bit too big, and they toned it down in IV.

But yes, for pure non-sandbox action games, huge levels can be a problem if they're not filled with things to do.

I'm pretty sure "drive around and kill people" and "run around and kill people" are similiar things.

I can tell that you either

    A) Never played GTAIV

    or

    B) Are a goddamn idiot who couldn't be bothered to try any missions

I'm pretty sure the 60+ hours I've put into GTAIV refute both of your statements. Yes, I've done most of the side missions in GTAIV, but what does it still amount to? Driving around and killing people. The only difference between that and "sandbox" style are which people to kill.

Empty levels are a problem, expansive levels are not.

I put 90 hours + into gta iv and no longer have any missions to do. I agree with you justin.

Ah. I thought maybe there was a collectors edition or something I didn't know about. Didn't know the exchange rate was that high, or are games just more down there? I was telling my wife that we should move to Australia (i think Lost has given me an odd fixation with it). But if games are too expensive...

I need to put some games up on ebay, so I can rebuild my game fund. I keep going back and for on whether or not to pick it up day 1, but after the demo and Tycho's review I leaning more toward first day. But I might wait a week or so and see what the thread says.

Western Australia now. Yes. Yes I can see that. Pure white sand, perfect swells. Go far enough you can find beaches that only seen like four people in a month.

For some reason the pc wholesalers don't have much increase in price, which is weird because you get like an 80 dollar thing in most retail stores I can get for 20 at the wholesaler. Heh.

I do live on an island, so yes we have beaches.

All of them shit, covered in trash and sewage (this is not hyperbole, this is literally the case in many place).

But I guess that horrible environment was conducive to economic acumen, because we pay less for our games but earn more.

Though I dont know whats going on in America, they pay so much less than us for games it's not fair.

I'm kind of worried that since this isn't a sandbox game, I get bored somewhere around the game. Linearity just...doesn't do it for me anymore. Only non-sandboxy game I've been able to play is Warhawk, and every match is different on it anyway. I mean, I got MGS4. I got bored playing it, something I never would have anticipated. I still haven't finished it, and I probably won't. I don't know if this will happen on other games

FU seems to have more freedom of movement and force powers though, so that may create the fun. I did enjoy the demo, I'm just worried that in the long run (if there truly are force-blocking enemies) it might become stale.

I haven't seen anyone respond to what Tycho said about the guy in the demo being super uber endgame force power guy, but the guy you start with is super crippled force power guy.

If you started with the powers you have in the demo, and then you get even more powerful, that'd be an awesome game. Apparently you start as a guy with a Light Bat and you get as powerful as the guy in the demo. A fun game this does not make.

Fortunately you are mistaken, as the trailers clearly show numerous powers used in gameplay well beyond what you can acheive in the demo.

Such as....jumping lightsaber combo straight after doing the force pop up move, a counter involving a tumble over someones back and a push away, throwing your lightsaber without needing to pick someone up first, more powerful double handed lightning use and a forcepush that explodes radially out from the player with a wide radius and power.

    You misread what he said.

how exactly? He even goes on to say that scenes where you're supposed to be doing something amazing aren't even actually gameplay... like the whole crashing the Star Destroyer thing (which is amazing as a cinematic, I'll give you that) which doesn't sound like you directly control it, or if you do, it's very poor control. So you only play half the game as a guy with a Light Bat and the ability to explode a wish-blossom with the force? Still doesn't sound like fun. I'm definately going to have to rent it though, just in case I'm wrong.

I'm looking for the quote where he says "And you never get any more powerful than that."

I can't find it, but I do see this trailer that comes with the demo showcasing lots of powers better than the demo that appear to be from the same camera angle as the player.

I mean that's some pretty damn despicable trickery, if all those moves better than the demo that appear to be from the players view aren't. I'll be right alongside you damning the game if that turns out to be true, believe you me.

Or it could mean by the time you get to the point in the demo you've already played 3/4 of the game, then have a short period where you have all the rest of the really good powers.

That would suck equally as much, or Tycho has heavily underrated the amount of force powers or something.

I don't see that either, as you see the radial force blast while wearing the same gear as the demo.

I think what he was saying is that you get to customise your powers, either lightsaber, force or something else, and that the Star Pimp means they upped all of them to average and let the force push go to above average. Pimp generally meaning someone who has "a lot of everything."

Ok... so now I'm confused. The demo is the second level... but do you have Star Pimp[tm]'s power in that level? Is the first level 6 hours long or something? What's going on here? When does this come out anyway... the demo was tons of fun. But now I'm all confused about when you get what and how long your saber is etc. -goes to the opening post-

e: 19th... plenty of time to play the WAAAAAAGH beta and Spore and FFXI has a new patch.
