Oh yeah, I can't believe I forgot about this. The first time I played Final Fantasy Tactics I didn't know you could add units to the battles, so I just played with Delita and the main character guy. I got close to beating that first battle against the thieves, too! About the 50th time I tried I was like, "This game is fucking hard, I give up!"
Then I talked to a friend who told me that he made the same mistake, which eased the pain of being a retarded kid.
I did this as well. Must have played that first battle 5 times thinking it was impossible. Then I accidently added a character once - facepalm.

I used to ignore all side quests in RPGs and just try to power through to the ending. Little did I know that super secret optional bosses that take 45 minutes to defeat are the best part of these games.
edit- though I didn't get to fight this one, due to being American scum, and as such unworthy of cool extras in games.

What boss is that anyways? I thought I beat that game 100% but I don't remember ever seeing that.
Anyways, right now I'm playing persona 4 completely the wrong way. My persona are all about 20 levels less than MC because I want to get them all their skills before moving on. And I'm complaining about how hard the november dungeon is...
I know, it makes no sense
Edit: oh, nm. I guess being in the 53rd or whatever state of Canadia I don't get that boss either.

My first WoW character was a rogue.
But I never PvP'ed, and was never really good at it.
So when I dueled a level 40 mage and lost @ level 60, I knew that I was doing it wrong.
I only downstrum in Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I just can't upstrum.
I only rotate pieces clockwise in Tetris. I kick ass at this game, and beat pretty much everyone I know real hard, but I still can't use both rotations in a game. I need to practice with this because this is what keeps me from improving some more.

I have many many many MANY doing it wrongs, the only one I can think of was going through half of FF9 without turning on any special added thingys like auto-potion for example. Oh and going through Memoria with like level 40's or something super under level'd (Thats what I was TOLD at least). Never did beat that game. Oh and in Nuts and Bolts putting guns behind my wheels.

If you know what you're doing its not that bad
Especially considering that except for the very final boss everything including the most powerful boss in the game is killable with lvl 1 characters
In CronoTrigger, I beat Lavos, watched the standard ending, then never played NewGame+.
Yeah? The first time I played Chrono Trigger I didn't resurrect Crono. I didn't know you could. I also didn't know there were any alternate endings or new game +.

Don't worry, Derek. I'm sure you'll be able to turn left when the time comes.
I know someone who didn't know his PS3 controller could function without the charging cord. The also had his PS3 connected to his HDTV through composite cables. He fixed this problem by buying an 80 dollar HDMI cable.

On topic, while I've personally never done this due to having too much pride and common sense, apparently it is an extremily common practice in X3 Reunion for people to set up a freighter trade loop or a lasertower array around a jump gate on a border between two races who hate each other and then leave the game running at 10x speed so that they can rack up the cash and the racial reputation, and apparently this is one of the best legit ways to gain money and rep because of how borked up certain factors of the game are.
I am sorry, Egosoft and people who do this, but this is just fucking wrong. A game shouldn't be so conveluted that the best way to play it is to tape a key/button down and leave it alone for 12/120 hours while it grinds up stuff for you.
As for doing it wrong myself, the only thing that springs to mind was a brief period of insanity I had back during the time of the oXbox where when playing Morrowind I absolutly had to manipulate my character stats so that when my endurance hit 100 my health ended with a zero on top of the standard shenanigans and power gaming that Elder Scrolls games brings out in people. Not an action was out of step, not an exploit was left unexploited, not a calculation left undone. Fuuuuun times, those.

Best item creation system in any game ever in the history of time itself. Oh, the cheese. :P

I've played dozens of hours of TF2 without touching half the classes because once I learned a couple I got addicted to getting good with just them. Now I'm plateauing with those classes, but don't want to go suck at the others. This sucks.

Not really doing it wrong. All I ever played in Quake TF was a scout or a demoman.
In CronoTrigger, I beat Lavos, watched the standard ending, then never played NewGame+.
theres a new game+ in CT?
You serious?
CT invented the New Game + expression.
Kirby's Dream Land would like a word with you. Unless you mean it has extra stuff like alternate endings or something (I've never played CT), in which case just ignore little old me.

Yeah, CT has, like, 13 endings or something like that specifically obtained through New Game+.

And this, kids, is the reason why I used the word "expression". I know other games had some form of New Game +, but AFAIK, CT was the first one to actually write "New Game +" at the menu.

If you want to be super silly, both Super Mario Bros (goombas became beetles) and Zelda (second quest) changed after the first complete play through.

I guess I play RTS games wrong since I only ever use infantry and maybe a single tank if I have to, and whenever one of my infantry gets to the highest rank/wounded that he would die immidiatly if shot at, I send them behind my base to just stand around and survive
So I was playing Skies of Arcadia, the Gamecube remake. I was about 20 hours or so in to the game, maybe a little longer. I had defeated several bosses and had progressed quite a bit into the story. And it was taking me ages to finish battles with all the move animations taking their time.
Yeah... I didn't know the start button skipped special attack animations until I was closer to the end than the start. I watched the lead character do his special dozens of times and if you've played the game you know how long the animations are.
My very first character in WOW was decked out in weapons and armor purchased from NPC vendors.
Oh, and then I took the gold I'd been saving for my mount, bought every piece of leather in the auction house and tried to resell it at an inflated price. Needless to say, I fail at business.

I wanted to tell you that you should have farmed the leather from mobs and then tried to sell it.

Wait, are you two seriously telling me that the US and Canada didn't get Penance, while Europe did? I distinctly remember Zanmato-ing his ass... although I did take down Nemesis without a Zanmato.
...Mainly because he decided to Wakizashi the whole-fucking-time...
...Regardless, if what you say is true, does that mean the Dark Aeons didn't turn up either? If they did, then it could just be that you haven't faced all 8, thus unlocking the Penance fight.

I mean, I paid $4 for it about a year ago, but whatever.
Basically, any console manufacturer that doesn't include a composite/component hybrid cable like the Xbox 360 does is doing it wrong.

Actually This is a fantastic article.
Well, my point is that:
Origin
The term was first coined by the 1995 role-playing game Chrono Trigger, although the concept goes back to the original Legend of Zelda
