I can if it's unfair enough to offend people in Minnesota. So, is it?

Fact: Pawlenty made Molnau head of the Minnesota DOT. Molnau did a terrible job, including admitting that she never even looked at the bridge inspection reports. When the state legislature removed her, Pawlenty criticized their decision.

Fact: Pawlenty repeatedly vetoed funding for infrastructure and road maintenance, partially because of his campaign pledge to not raise taxes.

Fact: When engineers recommended that extensive tests be performed on the I-35 bridge in particular, Minnesota DOT refused due to budget shortfalls.

Now, Pawlenty was not the sole or even the primary cause of the collapse. But he may have had a great deal to do with the fact that the bridge hadn't been shut down months before the bridge fell down.

Ship Captains don't have god powers, they have command powers. They're no different from any other base commander. The distinction of their command is in the distinction of their ship to a normal base, mobility. In what way they operate their base within the larger framework of a war is still decided rather routinely through the chain of command. Yes, they get to be more independent how they run things on their ship, but no, they don't have "god powers". Not even fucking close.

This comparison of long range warfare to short range warfare isn't analogous to the differences between the branches. Every branch uses long range warfare and short range warfare.

McCain's Navy experience as a pilot is not going to do him a disservice as President (the being tortured for two and half years might, but not the flying of the planes or commanding a squadron), although it could be reasonably argued that it wouldn't be as handy as infantry experience. But you're not arguing that.

So you really don't get the difference in the services at all, on any level, not even the most basic.

FYI a ships captain does have more powers then a base commanders. Even base commanders have different powers depending on what nation their base is in.

But I guess you're right. Lobbing a tomahawk is the same range as firing a motar, and it's all the same. Just like being the captain of a ship in international waters is the same as comanding a base in the USA.

I've seen BS before, and I've seen outright deluded, you take your pick. It's a mix of both though, you win a special prize.

McCain's views, aren't that off base for a Naval officer.
I definately see where you're coming from about the views of a naval officer, but, from the article I linked on the previous page it sounds like he was especially incompetent:
The instructor added that McCain was "positively one of the weakest students to pass our way, and received consistently poor marks and a number of Dangerous Down grades assigned by more than one instructor. He had no real ability and was clearly out of his element in an airplane, and way over his head even as a junior naval officer."

His father was at the bottom of his class, McCain was at the bottom of his class and his son was at the bottom of his class. They all happened to be well connected and wealthy.

Mmm. Ad hominem attacks. It tastes like... victory. And fruit punch. But mostly victory.

First, saying that you're not attacking anyone specific is a pretty naive argument to make. "Style over substance", as you said. How is that not an attack on Obama? Just because you don't say his name doesn't make it any less blatantly obvious.

Second, I'd like to see what qualifications he has that makes him so much "better" than Obama. One could argue that his six terms in the senate and vast foreign policy experience make him a heavyweight compared to the relatively "inexperienced" senator from Illinois. Except for this: experience means nothing on its own. Some of the worst presidents of the 20th century had burgeoning tankers of Washington experience under their belt.

Does experience help? Sure, it's always nice to know the lay of the land, but it isn't an MMORPG. Having more experience doesn't automatically make you better than everyone else playing the game.

Before making slams on members of the forum, it would probably be best to at least make some sort of defensible argument.
