Uhh, question, is there any way to get a free trial in FF11 without driving over to a Best Buy and all that nonsense? Any buddy-passes, stuff like that?

Not that I know of. They occasionally do a buddy thing I think; but it requires having the disks iirc.

Why do you need your disks bri?

My install got borked while I was futzing around with my drives and I need the disks to reinstall. I still have all the files on my computer for the game, but if the registry entries don't match juuuuuust right the game won't run. A reinstall would quickly fix this but I can't remember what state my disks are in.

Hey folks. I'm trying really hard to not be one of those people who starts out with something like "Long time lurker, first time poster!" or something. For one, I've never even lurked the forums here... Anyways, I just recently picked up FFXI and decided to start playing. I don't know anyone who actually plays so I figured I'd start on a random server. Siren.

Anyways, after looking here I realized everyone from PA plays over on Carbuncle. I was curious to know if anyone had a world pass to pull me over there because I'd like to find a good Linkshell to work and play with. So far my server seems pretty quiet which makes it difficult to find a decent (or any) linkshell there.

For the record I decided on playing Seik, a White Mage.

You don't need a world pass anymore. when you create your character you just choose your server.

If you're already made you have to pay to transfer if you want to keep the character.

Yeah that's what I meant. I've already made the character and I know I haven't gotten very far, but I was hoping to not have to delete and start over. Mostly because the Gil I've aquired took a hell of a lot of work and luck in finding a few items I could auction off.

But I suppose if it's necessary I'll consider it. I can always make back what I'll lose, it'll just take a bit more effort. And this time I know what I'm doing at least.

Much to my dismay. I've thought about picking up the 7 dollar WotG from amazon (for the 360) but I don't know how I'd ge the files for my PC if I did that.

Well, I went and got the 2007 collection. I already have the files for wings mixed in with all the others, I will just need to copy over my install directory when I am done installing. Also, I have a buddy pass now. One lucky person can play free for 30 days after downloading the client. This free pass client probably does not have the expansion pack areas included.

    Who wants? PM please.

    These usually end in tears

    But not this time

Not only did we finish off the boss with ease, but we set the clear time record for the server

Now all I need is Dem and I'll be 3/3

I made it to 15 WAR the other night. I was excited. Now I just need to find the time between WAR (the game not the job) and real life to get to 18 and get me a sub-job! Yeeehaw.

And Ladyluck was real cool, showed me where to go in Lehaine to solo while I wait for Dunes groups to pick me up.

(I think it was Ladyluck anyway? He had his "friend", a high level WHM, come help me, but when Lildoc logged in, Ladyluck logged out, and the typing styles were the same...so yah).

So, 0/7 on boots from Lizzy. I haven't really been camping so much as I just log in periodically and check spawns and kill placeholders to see if I get a spawn and log otherwise. Log too if people are there camping who don't appear to be retards (i.e. know how to spawn it without killing every single lizard making it pain in the ass to track).

Since I haven't played much in the last couple days figured it'd be a halfway fine thing to do.

Kind of obnoxious however, the drop rate on the boots. Think I'll just head back to town and not even worry about them for now.

EDIT: Also playing Infinite Undiscovery so that's taking up my free time atm. Let me know if anyone wants/needs me for anything and I'll be happy to come on.

Okay, so the Vista installer worked perfectly. Thanks for that! Another problem has come though. The buddy pass I was given is invalid, expired, or whatever. It's from the 2007 Vanadiel Collection. Does anybody have a spare? I would really appreciate it! Chance of me coming to the game is 9/10 after the free trial.

I really don't think they're available anymore. My 2008 collection didn't have one so I'm assuming they're not putting them in any longer.

    EDIT: Your best bet is:

    http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?sku=647088
    http://www.ebgames.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?sku=647088

I know ebgames/gamestop are the same but anyway they both say my local stores have the trial in stock but I'm guessing you'd have to ask a clerk to get you it, I'm not sure I've seen the disks up front in ages.

But they're still there. $2 isn't free, but it's better than nothing. No expansions iirc, but still 30 days free.

Gonna take a wild guess and say that if you use those 30 free days it would cancel out the 30 free days if you bought the game, but I'm not positive on that.

I agree, and this really affects melee jobs. Mage jobs not so much, because you can get skill ups just for casting the spells. It doesn't matter if you are casting them on "Too Weak"s.

It's almost not worth it to do Campaign battles, since you don't get skill ups under allied tags, either.

Actually I've noticed it's still possible to get melee skill-ups regardless of your level vs the mobs level, to a point. Case in point being when I was playing around a bit with a Great Sword. WAR30, wailing away on mobs in Sarutabaruta, I was getting skill ups at 0 skill.

Seems to me that the limit on how far you can level a skill (not counting your actual level cap) depends on the monsters level, but not on your level reletive to that monster. That is to say any given mob can only take your skill up to a certain point before you've gotta go after something a little higher leveled. Though I'm not sure on the -exact- mechanics, just going on what I've observed here.

That being said, yeah, I make a note to not sync too far down for overly extended periods of time on melee jobs, lest my skills fall too far behind. Though Level Sync is still amazing for playing with friends, and PT's have definately been easier to build or organize in my experience.
