Not sure if anyone cares but I noticed on Ubisoft's website they are selling it for $5. Seems like a good deal if you never played it. Its on sale until 8/25.

No, I refuse to install a dozen digital downloaders and having them clog the fuck out of my system. Stardock and Steam are enough for me.

And you're a bit of a dick. He registered on the fourth. Just because he didn't post until now doesn't automatically make him a shill. GJ reinforcing the shill paranoia obsession this forum has.

And I am a shill because? I just thought it was a good deal man, thats all. I had never played it and was waiting for it in queue at Goozex. But its at 100 pts. there and only $5 from their website. Thus its cheaper. I just got Farcry off of Goozex and was looking at their site for a patch, saw the game there and thought I would share. But hey, I guess cause I don't post much im shilling right?

*I can see the point about the installers as well. I deleted it as soon as the game was downloaded, dont think I will ever use their site again anyways.

There's a weekend deal for it on Steam. Too bad Ubisoft are being dicks and not letting people outside North America buy their games on Steam.

100pts at Goozex costs exactly $5 unless they changed their pricing scheme since I last used it.

Should I get a controller to play it, or is it acceptable just with the keyboard?

There is a way to make it work (will require some configuration though): Xpadder is exactly what you need for any game that doesn't want to play with your controller :)

Ah, it would appear that I misread his post. Thought he meant the game didn't work with his 360 gamepad...especially seeing as the topic is about the $5 downloadable PC version of the game (at least it started out that way).

I bought it, seems pretty decent so far. (After I got past the technical glitches. If you have any problems try turning off "Hardware Vertex processing" under the advanced tab in the Settings thingy.)

The bad part is the UI and the game really is designed with a console gamepad in mind and kinda controls like crap.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

i've heard great things about it for years but have always been too busy with other stuff to play...this deal made me finally just pick it up...10 bucks was never the problem, but i felt like an idiot not owning it when it's 5 bucks

with that said, i've had some visual glitches at times in my first hour or so of play, i'll try this when i get home tonight and see if it fixes things

I avoided it because I have a latent fear of anthropomorphic pigs. I finally decided to suck it up and play this while I was subscribed to GameTap. It was a good game until it started crashing on me, I think I was 60% of the way through the game and I didn't feel like starting over again. That was a year ago. I think I'm good to play the game with a blank slate again.

Yeah, I'm having some problems too. Anything pre-rendered, including the zoom in to the start menu, is sped way the fuck up, and the audio track doesn't sync up with them either.

We need a list of glitches and fixes... here goes.

    Graphical glitches
Turn off "HW Vertex Processing" Under the advanced tab in settings.

Very slow, framerate problems when on the hovercraft
The water effects have trouble with some nvidia cards. Turn water effects down to low, in the settings program. (yes the water looks crappy but it plays fast)

    Audio Video sync problems
This is supposed to be caused by cpus that speedstep. Apparently cpu clock is how the game syncs audio. Set your cpu to run at 100% all the time in power options in the control panel or turn off speedstep in the bios.

No you need to set the power scheme to high performance. But I'm not sure if this is enough. You may have to go into the advanced tab and set both the minimum and maximum cpu to 100% so it stays constant. (I'm using Vista so I'm not sure if the same options are available to Windows XP users, but in vista at least I think High performance always keeps the cpu at 100%)

speedstep is related to throttling via power schemes. Do you have a mutli-core processor? if so you need to install the AMD or Intel driver for it.

This struck me as a pretty lazy port. The camera on the boat is really annoying, the menus are really stupid (W and S to go up and down, left click to select, no cursor, you can't type to enter text in game), you have to do a bunch of workarounds to keep the textures from flickering (which gives you a framerate hit), even if you have a widescreen monitor it kills an area on top and bottom of your screen to make it even more widescreen, which makes the amount you can see vertically really obnoxious.

I have an AMD Athalon X2 Dual Core Processor. So the answer would be...yes?

I'm foremost a console gamer. But I simply cannot find this game for consoles, and this deal seemed too good to pass up.

I don't know that I'd consider it a completely lazy port, the problem is that it seems to have a lot of issues with newer computers. I remember it working find on my system when it first came out, but it's trickier to get it working for me now. Weird how that works, eh? It was a bit buggy, though. I think there was an unofficial save-game editor to get past certain points if it bugged on you.

I still bought it for $5 just to have it on Steam, since I keep losing/refinding/relosing the install discs. Also, the graphics are much better on the PC if you can fiddle with it to get it running properly.
