Laptop CPU Troubles

Hey all,

I bought a Dell XPS m1530 a little while ago with a Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The problem I'm having with it is that when playing games like Team Fortress 2, the processor scales back from 2.4Ghz and starts running at under 1.6Ghz. This mean I'm going from over 100fps when nothings happening to under 15fps when in there's any sort of action. I'm running vista and have put the power setting to maximum performance, and am using CPU-Z to monitor the core speed. Anyone have any clue how to fix this?

Specs:
Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo t8300 2.4Ghz
Ram - 3gb
Video Card - nvidea gforce 8600m gt (latest drivers)

Overheating? I have a Gateway with lower specs than yours (T5550, 3 gb RAM, Radeon 2600HD) and TF2 runs fine maxed at 1280x800.
Run Speedfan while gaming and occasionally alt-tab to it.

Yeah after more scoping of the problem the computer way over heats (processor getting to the high 90s in under a minute) then throttles back to drop temperature, causing performance to suck. I phoned up dell and their sending the box for me to send it back in. Guess that means no need for other responses
