It seems disingenuous to state you're trying to avoid nerdery while playing an MMO based on a fantasy game about toy soldiers. Conversely, the Warhammer world isn't built to support "immersion" or "serious RP" or anything.

Of course there's a baseline level of nerd involved with most everything. Sitting in front of the computer for hours on end, playing video games, etc.. It's all about where anyone's personal line is drawn. For me it's pretending that I am the personality of the graphical representation of a pile of numbers in a database.
Or that "Big Gay [name]" is funny, while <Your Mom Gave Me Harpies> is an old played-out joke.

And that was a general notion that I find people who don't take the game seriously more entertaining than those that do. "Big Gay Steve" probably wouldn't make me laugh but seeing a big burly chosen in pink running around would get a :^: from me.

It's the same premise that I play gnomes for. Most people run around trying to be their super cool looking character, "dude check me out I'm huge and burly and my armor is so scary errrrg" while I play a 3 foot tall goofy looking jackass because it's a funny contrast.

The only thing worth taking seriously about games is the fact you're investing time (aka don't suck). Everything else is a joke so why would I want to play with some tightass who spends his free time sitting in cities with his finger hovering over his /report macro praying to be offended.

To each their own, I don't care if you want to pretend you're an orc. But it gets tiresome hearing the rp nerds here talk about how horrible regular servers are when hearing some guy talk about how the Yankees suck is waaaaaaaay more tolerable for most people than listening to you use fake stunted english.

    This is pretty much me.

I take my play time very seriously, in that I do my best to not suck, understand my class, I would say even to excel at my class. I expect others around me to do the same.

But the rest of it's all entertainment. I to play a Gnome in WoW (a Gnome Warrior at that, Gnome's in plate baby) for the same reason. Everyone else puts on their T4/T5 gear and looks "rawrrr, I am awesome"...I put mine on and and I hear Yackity Sacks in my head, because a three foot tall guy in armor that weighs more than him, with weapons bigger than him, is funny.

The problem here is that someone in pink armor named "Big Gay Steve" isn't funny.

There's plenty of room for humor, I'd just appreciate mechanisms that curtail bad humor.

    Right... I'm hilarious.

I'm mostly opposed to the cheap kick through anachronism. I guess it's not fair to be disparaging toward those who appreciate "X doesn't fit" humor, of which I guess there are many (see: Scary Movie, et al), but I'd prefer to see a bit of subtlety. Or at least a barely disguised sexual organ reference.

Heh, I've played on both types of servers across multiple games. I don't think you should make a decision about your server preference based on perceived communities. Play RP if you would like to RP, play Core if not. I agree with you there. The name / pink chosen combo reminded me of all of the horrible names and other supposedly humorous things I have seen on normal and pvp servers through the years. You made me want to RP just so people would have to think a little more about humor. I know that RP servers have just as many horrible things (go read some Bios on Virtue, wow).

I was just commenting that your preferred identity made me go against my arguments for going Core. It was that bad. :P

Nobody's offended, it's just stupid. I'd like to deal with less stupid when I'm playing, yes. I can't really understand how not liking stupid shit is a character flaw.

Since the premise of your last few posts has been:

    1) Why would anyone roll on a non-RP server?

    2) People should just roll on an RP server and then not RP if they don't like it.

    3) Communities on RP servers are vastly superior to non-RP servers.

3a) Non-RP Servers are full of stupid.

It's not hard to see why people get a ilttle bit bent out of shape. There is a sizeable crowd of us that just don't like RP servers. We're not going to like RP servers. For some of us, it's because we want to wear all pink and have a stupid name. For others of us, it's because we don't want to be subjected to the pile o' shit that often passes as role-playing, and would much prefer seeing LOLTARDLOL running by than witnessing a thee-and-thou-laden diatribe with references to slain family members and a vow of vengeance.

Who cares? Play on an RP server. I'm not going to. I don't like RP servers, but I can understand why some people want to play there. Go have fun. Stop expressing astonishment and dismay at the notion that people would, for some reason, not want to play in your favourite sandbox.

I can't understand why people don't want to roll on an RP server. If you don't RP, you don't have to, but the people who want to can.

ALAS, I will have to go elsewhere, then.

Honestly, I don't RP terribly much myself, either, but it's an environment I like because it generally means you're surrounded by people who take the setting as seriously as they take the game itself.

It also means you don't have to deal with as many people with stupid puns in their names and idiots are more readily ostracized.
