am i the only one here that doesn't... like... energy drinks?
o_O
Can't blame ya honestly, I used to drink them a lot at work, but I stopped doing that. I haven't actually had an energy drink in couple weeks probably... If I could find one that actually works well, that may change.
Pretty much the only time I ever drink energy thingies is at PAX, and it is a sad state of affairs that Bawls will not be there. Is there a supermarket or something closeby where I could get a case?
I tried bottles of BAWLS in the anime convention I attended last weekend. It turned me from overslept mood to superman hyped for the rest of the day. G33K B33R for the win. I might post some BAWLS pictures from that covention if anyone is interested.
Speaking of which, is there any G33K B33R sold in Vancouver?

rockstar or redbull go well with vodka. Its what i d drink at the start of every heavy drinking night to ensure i stay up and puke neon.
For "athletes" i suggest something with fructose and sucrose sugar in it (which some energy drinks have) not to mention carbs and B vitamins. I typically tip one back after a night of drinking and then drink water for the rest of the day.
If i go to the coffee shop i usaly get black coffe with three or four pumps of chocolate syrup. yum yum
you realize that redbull and vodka is actually incredibly dangerous? Combining a stimulant and a depressant can give you a very nice heart arrhythmia.
While you're definately right when the depressant you're talking about is a barbituate or something, I don't think it's really that big of a deal with a shot or two of booze. Otherwise all the fools out there drinking Jager-bombs (Jägermeister shot in a half-pint of Redbull) would be dying like flies.
yup the only way the energy drink and alcohol would really have a negative effect is if all you did for a whole night of drinking was drink jaeger bombs and there was a lot more energy drink than alcohol so by the time you finally did get drunk you would have had like 4 red bulls
Or, like my 19-year old brother in-law, you're a healthy athletic guy that has one and suddenly develops a heart murmur and possible arrhythmia.
Not saying that it happens to everyone, and for most people I'm sure you could have one. Yea, you'd be giving your heart a workout it doesn't need, but you should be fine. Just... be careful with them. Many people binge on booze, and redbull/vodka is becoming more popular. You do the math. Your liver is much more resilient than your heart. I don't know any of you guys, but I'd much rather you have a fun night out than develop heart problems.
Caffeine and Alcohol pass thru your body a lot quiker than LDL (low-density lipoprotein) which is the bad stuff found in geasy foods espicaly junk food. Morale is.. theres always a poison killing you faster... best not worry about a popular drink. Moderation is the key.
However....
My limit is 5 red bull vodkas. I didnt know Taco Bell turns black when its coated in neon puke. hmm, who knew?
So i just found out that a Hot Topic at the Westlake mall on Pine st in Seattle sells the Mana Pot drink
will someone pick me up like 3 or 4, I can pay you back when I get up there.
Why don't you pick some up at Fry's in Renton on the way up. Also, the Westlake Mall, if is the one I am thinking of, is within walking distance of PAX...

Sorry to be a wet blanket.
haha i actually just recently got a heart problem... cool thing about it is the doctors couldn't figure out what it is! so i just live on with my normal life and my non normal heart beat ><
haha yeah i'm one of those "athlete" type people... so energy drinks are just generaly bad for me ><
I'm with you on not liking these things. Hate them actually. I find them to be too cloyingly sweet.
Being one of the athlete type people (even an older one) does have its advantages though. Namely, doing all-nighters and still being able to function the next day without having to hop the Red Bull express. I get to put this into practice again next month when the next kidlet arrives.
The Derm on
Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position
Such a heavy burden now to be the one
Born to bare and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see
But I forgot my pen...

I ordered the 6 pack of mana pots from thinkgeek a while back and they were green which was weird, it looks like they are blue now though. I have 5 of the pots, can't for the life of me find the 6th one. I'm actually going to put some of my liquid pain medicine in a couple of the bottles just for kicks so if they check my suitcase at the airport they won't steal my good medicine. Maybe I'll fill the rest with something else blue for fun!

I am very pro sugar-free energy drink. Sugar makes me gain weight at an accelerated rate, and like mentioned earlier in this thread, wears off quick while the caffeine is still going which puts me in a not so upbeat mood. I'll be packing a few apples, which I find work better than any energy drink. But I'm by no means exclusive. Free is free dammit!

I'm with both of you, even as a non "athetlic-type." (Er, well, I was in the past, but then my laziness got the better of me.)
Too much caffeine and too much sugar gives me an awful case of stomach cramps. That's not to say I can't have a bottle of Bawls here and there, or maybe half a can of NOS (I never finish the damned things), but Red Bull makes me sick, as does having a full can of the aforementioned NOS, or a couple of bottles of Bawls.
I was going to buy a bunch of caffeinated candy from ThinkGeek for PAX, but thought better of it, and just bought a bunch of weird Asian snacks from the local Asian grocery store instead!

I got some at the "Kool Stop" in Vancouver... but that's the only place I've actually seen it around.
Yes, they're real, Hot Topic sells them.
The only store I've ever seen Bawls sold at is 7-11.
BTW, has anybody here tried Cherry Bawls?
i have a couple of those as horrible christmas presents.
they are the same exact generic energy drink with different labels
