stupid 3 hour time difference... i was thinking who is at a job that has a computer this late at night (11:30 pm) but at least you get to be on the forums at work! because i know thats all i do at work whenevever i can be ^^
it might not work, but if it doesn't, you haven't lost anything.
Well, the rest of the group might get kicked out. A few months ago Seattle pulled the stupidest raid on a bunch of bars, and actually hauled the bartenders off to jail, because they had served minors without carding them, and even some for accepting a fake ID. So bars might be a bit careful right now.
hmm that wouldn't be fun. your newfound friends will definitely not like getting kicked out. but at least you can all seek out a new bar together :-p
a few months ago is a long time. i feel like your odds are good enough that it is worth a shot.
haha yeah theres this party store by me on 8 mile (yes the same 8 mile in the movie) and they sell to minors all the time.. and like every month they get busted... but they still keep selling to minors basically... 3 days later >.>
classy,
i think the WA liquor control board is a lot more anal than yours, because if you get caught too much you will get your license taken away. they are pretty serious about it.
yeah i guess that makes sense... because with the whole shitty economy michigan has going for it... everytime they bust the place... that's just a little more revenue for the city/state lol
i prefer that approach. the store can look at the fines as just a cost of doing business. arresting people for that is kind of dumb IMO.
i don't know how unusual this is, but there is a government group that pretty much controls all the alcohol going in and out of washington state. They have a very strong financial incentive to show the public that they are 'tough' on the age rule. they don't want to lose their magic monopoly rights.
but i don't think they check that often. but when they do, if you get caught, as a business you are boned.

thats so horrible! if it weren't for selling to underage people a lot of bars and party stores by me would be out of business!!! lol
it would probably take 3 hands to count all the party stores and bars that sell to minors within a 2 mile radius of me >.>

it's really not that bad. everyone knows a guy. or at least knows a guy who knows a guy. or at the very least you can drive from store to store until someone doesn't check ID. i did that once. it didn't take that long.
I know some other solo attendees are struggling with the crazy hotel rates so I thought I'd mention that I managed to snag a good rate at the Quality Inn in Belltown, 1.2 miles away. I think the rate averages out to something like $110 a night. They still seem to have rooms available.
Thanks for the tip re: the Quality Inn. I registered online just a few minutes ago.
Interesting thing - while doing my online registration, I called the hotel to ask about parking. They said parking was free, so that's great, but then I asked them if they could do my registration over the phone. He said, "I'd love to Sir, but we're sold out." I had already started to register online, so I went back to my computer and had no trouble getting a reservation. So try it both ways if you're not having luck!
Yeah, I went mostly alone in 2006 (brought a friend on the first day), and I was completely alone in 2007. It's fun as fuck still without people. I made some good single serving friends both those years (Mario Kart DS multi-player in a long-ass line is a great outlet for that sort of thing).

I'm coming from the interior of British Columbia. Like you, I was also born close to Toronto (Newmarket) and have spent some time in Montreal, as well.
How are you liking NYC? It's my favourite city in the US, can't wait to get back there one day soon.
I am feeling some of the same anxiety as the OP. Even though I live in Seattle my friends opted for Bumbershoot instead, their bad. But I am looking forward to the pub crawl and wandering around meeting people. Hopefully I will hear about some good after hour adventures/parties.

Sanka, what part of Canada are you arriving from? I'm coming from NYC but I was born and raised in Toronto/Montreal.
