i hear no CS:S tourny... that was the only game i had a chance atD:
Also, you'll notice that the COD4 tournament is using the promod mod. That makes it (rules-wise) just like CS. Of course it doesn't feel exactly the same, but it's close enough if you just wanted to play plant-the-bomb.
I'm going to try and organize a CS:S 2009 Revival Tour. It's hard to get the old band members together, being as they cry a lot and have horrible tact when it comes to sportsmanship. They're also worn down and old, but I think they have one or two more good songs in them.
We'll see

FOR THE HORDE!
Hello friend!
But seriously, Counter-Strike has its place in gaming. It might be old as fuck, but so is baseball. And football. And chess. And soccer. And fencing.
I'm, honestly, more angry at WoW than CS:S for ruining LAN parties.
I know memories are short, but WoW killed the Unreal Tournament community, and I imagine it's done the same to a good many other computer game communities. A good deal of computer gamers migrated from RTS/FPS staples to World of Warcraft and the Sims. I think only now PCs clans are starting to recover from the depths of WoW's cold $15/month fist. Thanks to COD4 and TF2; BFH will definitely help.
Even still, it's an uphill battle against WoW.
Don't get me wrong - WoW and other MMOs also have a place at LAN parties, I love the fact that Blizzard has gone out of their way to provide PAX with servers for a PvP tournament. I wish there was a way so people could raid together at LANs, or do something else cooperative (so that those that aren't PvP inclined can have fun together too).
CS has actually done a lot of good by being a staple in LAN gaming.
At least in America: Quake, Unreal, StarCraft, RavenShield, Call of Duty 1, 2 , UO have all seen their time come and go. They've been replaced by the likes of Trackmania, COD4, Carball, TF2, and Flatout. CS has remained a constant through all of those eras. It might not have much new to offer, but the core gameplay is clearly enjoyed by a constant majority. While the rest of us try new games and move on to better things, CS players love their game and stick by its side. Why there is such great animosity towards them seems only bred out of two things: (1) we're jealous, and (2) some CS players are douche bags (we all have our stories).
Douche CS players and the likes of Fatal1ty give competitive gaming a bad name. Sportsmanship isn't stressed enough.
PA recently did a bit on E4A's press release regarding Fatal1ty's presence. Although I thought the undertone was a little too negative towards competitive gaming: I can understand why they would do something like that.
On one hand, competitive clans are a part of the gaming community; on another they've ostracize themselves due to their lack of character in competition. They don't play well with others, and when your poster boy (Fatal1ty) is even loathed by mid-tier to upper-tier gaming clans (due to his antics and ridiculousness) - that's bad news for your establishment.
tl;dr summery:
Counter-Strike and video games bring people together. That's good.
When people are dicks about playing video games. That's bad.

your point there?
baseball, football, fencing, soccer > CS
even though i don't like those sports . . i respect their place. Chess has a special place in my heart.
. . .but i have no respect for counter strike . . . CS != fun

Honestly, in all my lan parties I have NEVER seen more bitching and unsportsmanlike conduct in ANY game, new or old, competitive or not, than Counter Strike. I'm not the most seasoned player (I've only been in since the 90's and Beta 5), but I've been to a lot of LANS all over with different crowds, and a lot of times the reactions are the same.
I see people blaming people for hacking more than I do in any other game as well. I've also been at LANs where we have CAUGHT people hacking, and people have been removed from the LAN for it. To be clear, not everyone that plays this game are bad sports, but it seems to draw that crowd more than any other game I've played before.
I want the game to go away for good, honestly. It's time to move on. You don't see anyone asking for a Super Mario Brothers tournament...
I am also officially bummed that there won't be a QuakeWorld TeamFortress Tournament. It's just not TF without MIRV spam and nail grenade exploits and conc jumps.

FYI: There are a fuckton of newer games out there that are better :P
It will still be in freeplay if you want to go play it there.

Isn't underage women a contradiction in terms? Aren't they "girls" until the age of consent?
Agreed.
