All this excitement around MM really makes me wanna play through it again. Think I'm gonna boot up my Collector's Disc and play some this weekend. Listening to the soundtrack really brings back the nostalgia in a big way.
Sure, we really liked the Nyko Wing Wireless Classic Controller for use with the Nintendo Wii, but if we could choose any controller to use with Virtual Console games, it would be the originals themselves.
Developer Komodo may have come up with a device that could pacify these desires. With the Retro Adapter (to be distributed by Innex), you'll be able to use original NES, Super Nintendo, and Nintendo 64 controllers with Wii Virtual Console games.
The adapter itself resembles that of a Nintendo 64 console and has three female ports for each system. It connects to your Wii via an open GameCube port. What's even better, the Retro Adapter will work with both first- and third-party accessories, so that no-name Nintendo 64 controller you have laying around may just do the trick. In case you're wondering, yes, you'll be able to use an analog control on the N64 controller as well.
Innex plans on officially announcing the Komodo Retro Adapter at E3 2009. While retail availability isn't yet solidified, you should be able to grab the accessory online by mid-June for around $20.
I can't count how many times I've almost bought the Retrozone adapters at $20 a piece.
This thing is $20 and does all three. Fuckin' right!

Will you be able to use all three at once? Because I have a USB adapter that has a slot for an N64 controller and one for a PS controller and you can only use one at a time.
Will that thing only be available online, or could it be out in B&M stores?
How will it handle N64->VC games since the control style has been changed with each game?
How will it handle the N64 controller for non-N64 games? Examples: Any SNES game: Can you make the N64's C-buttons work as the X, Y, L, R buttons from the SNES controller? And since it's using the Gamecube port, it should naturally work on a Gamecube. What about the Game Boy Player?
There's no chance of this supporting the Rumble Pak, is there?
The adapters that use the N64 controller on the Wii support the Rumble Pak for GC games and different button configurations that are activated with the press of buttons on the controller.

Just to make sure I fully understand, if I'm using an N64 controller with that adapter playing a Gamecube game, if said game supports rumble, I can use the Rumble Pak? And I can also fully customize the controls? Like, if I wanted to go crazy and make the N64's Up-C button be recognized in the game as the A button, I could do that?

Not that much I think. They let you choose whether you want the C buttons to represent X and Y or the C stick and similar. This is to make sure all the VC games are playable with it (S&P comes to mind).
Whoa! A playable port of Majora's Mask? About damn time!
I bought the GameCube Zelda edition so I could play it. Then I found out Nintendo rushed the port and it started randomly freezing. First-hand experience with that.
NES and SNES are fine on the Classic, but god, nothing will ever, ever satisfactorily mimic the N64 monstrosity
If only I could find an N64 controller nowadays
Used controllers are kind of gross sometimes too. It's one of those things I like to check in person first if I can help it, like buying pants or something.
I'm having possibly the worst playthrough of Secret Of Mana in the history of gaming. According to the guides, I've missed every opportunity to get the bow girl as a team member, and now I've been stuck at this battle with the wolves for about 20 tries. I think I need to start the game over.
Well, the trick is to hang back and play healer. Dart in, smack one, and dart away before you take a smack. The girl joins up after the battle. What level are you?
But if you want to get the girl early on the restart, hit up Pandora Castle after you get through Gaia's Navel.

Used controllers are repulsive to me, I hate not knowing who has used them. The only time I ever bought one was a Wavebird, because I could not find a new one anywhere (this was after the Wii came out). And I made sure to clean it really well when I brought it home.

Why, oh why, would anyone, anywhere, ever want to use an original NES controller again? Sure, when the NES came out, the controllers didn't seem too bad, but that was two feet and several years ago. Back then, I didn't have giant monkey hands.
The last time I tried to use an NES controller, it was the single most physically uncomfortable and painful controller experience I've ever had. It honestly felt like someone was shoving dull knives into my hands and I mean that without any hyperbole. On top of that, the tiny, diamond-edged D-pad which was clearly not designed for the average American adult.
Makes me really appreciate how super-nice the 360 controller is despite the rather lackluster D-pad. Who uses those for anything besides item/inventory/map buttons now anyway?

I'd definitely grab that adapter to use the N64 controller with Sin & Punishment if it works well.

But I'll get this when it goes live. Finally.
I'm actually playing through my copy of Collector's Edition Majora's Mask right now, and so far I've been lucky to not have any freezes. I'm scared though. I read on wikipedia that the freezing occurs less frequently if you disable rumble.

Fighting games?
And seriously, there's no better way to enjoy the nostalgia of playing NES games on the Wii than actually using an NES pad. I don't find it that repulsive or painful, anyway.

I think the sideways Wiimote is a perfect NES pad replacement, unless you consider the removal of the razor-sharp annoying-little-brother-skull-piercing corners as a negative.
I never had a problem with these supposed "sharp edges" on the NES pad. It wasn't like it was molded to your hand, but it worked.
Also, call me crazy but I like my tri-pronged madness that was the N64 controller. I never used the left prong, but it was still awesome. Hori does make some nice stuff though.
I spoke too soon. Majora's Mask just froze up on me.
I was playing the version on The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition for GameCube, so don't let that dissuade you from getting on VC if you're interested. Still waiting to hear if anyone has the issue on that version. Hopefully Nintendo has worked it out by now.

That sounds great. Now I just hope it can also allow you to switch around L with Z and vice versa. At the very least, the Gamecube versions of Ocarina of Time demand this.
As for the post from the previous page saying the CC has the best pad Nintendo has made, I'll have to politely disagree. It is not bad at all. It just does something it shouldn't that I've never seen any other Nintendo D-Pad do.
If you are holding only one direction (let's say left), and you end up putting your thumb's weight more on one corner of "left" even though you are only touching "left" (so let's say the "up" corner on "left"), whatever you're controlling will end up moving diagonally (so, up and left). It does that sort of thing on the entire CC D-Pad. It is that sensitive. It is TOO sensitive.
Edit: Damn, every time I see those Hori N64 controllers, I always think of how CUTE they look! I hope I'm not the only one. They just look so small!
How do you save in Majora's Mask? I'm assuming that you have to use an owl statue, because even though I got the moon tear and traded for the flower deed, I started over as if I didn't do anything at all.
I hit the Wii menu and exited out of my game instead of saving it right then and there.

That's pretty frustrating.
You can only save each time you go back in time - this is less frustrating than it sounds, as you rapidly gain the abilities to manipulate time to quite a high degree.
I won't spoil anything, but you're very close to being able to save properly - just sort out your affairs and use the flower when the time's right.

1/2 right. You can also save via the owl statues. Though this is essentially a suspend save as you're kicked back to menu and it automatically deletes upon loading.
It does take a significant chunk of play to get to the first save point, but after then you can save as and when you wish.
Look at that analog, this came out before the gamecube... MADNESS
Hah, I remember that thing.
and I remember wanting one extremely badly.
I have a red one. It's awesome. Its stick is better than a GameCube's. It's also very sensitive. What is not very awesome are the L, R, and the two Z buttons. They feel fragile and a bit less uncomfortable than they should.
For some reason I really dig the 64 era Zelda graphics out of all of the Zelda's. I don't know why exactly; I guess that the technical limitations sort of added to the mood of the area.
I don't think places like the Forest/Spirit temple and the Stone Tower would be as mysterious/omnious if done in TP's graphics.

The otherworldly orb, made entirely out of interstellar clay, contaminates all the circus employees, turning them into bizarrely superpowered versions of themselves. Choose from among the unique clay creatures, such as Bonker, the cheerfully manic clown, or Blue Suede Goo, the mild-mannered Elvis impersonator turned violent vocalist. Master their “Claytalities,” like the operatic Helga's deadly high note and Bad Mr. Frosty's fists of snowball fury!
Nintendo adds new titles to the Nintendo DSi Shop™ and the Wii™ Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time on Mondays. Users with broadband Internet access can redeem Wii Points or Nintendo DSi Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel. Wow, this is a rather large selection...very much not like they have been doing lately.
I want Bubble Bobble Plus, Adventure Island, and Clayfighter. :^:
I was looking forward to Adventure Island, but then I read a review that said the remake was really easy and my interest level has dropped drastically. At least, Bubble Bobble looks like it could be fun.

I'm hoping for some good VC games again in the future, like Dracula X. Not a big fan of Clay Fighter.
I suspect that the next VC thread will also be covering Wiiware stuff more heavily than this one has, at least by the topic creator. :P I know there was a bit of division in this forum many months ago on whether or not VC and Wiiware games should be kept track of in separate threads, but it seems like they've naturally converged into this thread over time.
I won't be particularly interested in maintaining the next VC/Wiiware/Wii Store/whatever thread. Hopefully someone else will pick up the torch on the day this one gets locked.

I won't be particularly interested in maintaining the next VC/Wiiware/Wii Store/whatever thread. Hopefully someone else will pick up the torch on the day this one gets locked.
