Not to hijack, but didn't we have a PSN thread? I can't seem to find it, and it's slowly getting some good stuff, like R-Type Delta, Suikoden, and some PS1 Castlevania game.
It's like a prettier Bubble Bobble, and with 100 more levels.
It's a steal for 600 points.
Oh damn, I missed that and assumed it was 800 points like the EU version. I'm hopping on to get it now, that's a great price point. I hope I get to try out some four player.
anyone tried Bubble Bobble yet? I want to know how it is before I spend my points.
Wiiware/VC need demos.
The physics feel a bit off. It's tough to pop large bunches of bubbles together (in particular, it's tough to kill four or five enemies at once). You can no longer bubble-jump out of extremely tight places. Motion and jumping feel slightly off, but I can't put my finger on the exact problem. With that said, after 3-4 hours of play these issues have mostly stopped bothering me.
There's also an odd bug that screws with the difficulty. Enemies burst out of bubbles very quickly early in the game, but stay bubbled for ages late in the game. This is the exact opposite of how it's supposed to work. The upshot is that early levels are harder than they should be, but later levels are much, much easier (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).
Oh, and the graphics are ugly, but oh well.
I've hardly touched the "arrange mode", but my first impressions are that the stages are too big for solo play, and that diagonal slopes are irritating. I haven't really given it a fair shake, though.
Despite my complaints, I do prefer this version to the NES port. My gripes are generally the sorts of things that wouldn't bother someone who hasn't played the snot out of the arcade version.
edit:
It's only a matter of time before they release tetris on wii ware. "Hell, It's about time."
Um...what? They did release tetris on WiiWare, about half a year ago.
Okay then, anyone try the new Adventure Island yet?

Not yet, but I'm tempted since it's also 600 points. It looks like Adventure Island, only with some of the newer gaming ideas.
I don't really like the animations, but I'm sure you'll get used to them. The only thing I don't like is hearing that it's super easy. The originals weren't that easy.
Is is possible to beat Mr. Dream in the VC version of Punch-Out? It seems like the controls lag ever so slightly, but I don't know if it's just my aging reflexes that have the lag problem.
Edit: Bah, gamespot answered it for me:
Just make sure you're playing on something other than an HDTV, or at least be prepared to readjust the timing you remember from your childhood. There's nothing wrong with the emulation of Punch-Out!! on the VC (even the old password system still works), but if you're playing the game on an HDTV, you may find just a hint of lag between the controller and the onscreen action that doesn't exist if you play on an SDTV. It's not too noticeable early on, but as you start to progress to the faster and tougher boxers in the game, it becomes apparent that something is slightly off. You can adjust to it, but it's an irritation all the same. Also, the game is best played with a Classic Controller, simply because the Wii Remote's plus and minus buttons aren't comfortable substitutes for the start and select buttons, and trying to reach for that plus button to execute an uppercut is a bit vexing.
That really sucks. So the VC version of Punch-Out is basically unbeatable on a modern TV.

He didn't say that, he said that you just need to readjust the timing.
I have Punch Out on the VC and I can clear the game just like I used to. :^:

I have difficulty as well. Even with my fancy Samsung and it's "Game Mode" it's still nigh-impossible.

I don't know anything about Punch-Out, but when I first started using my Wii with an HD TV I noticed input lag in all games, but it went away after I changed to component cables.

When is Swords and Soldiers being released in NA? I've read about it online and it seems to be release din Europe, but I've heard nothing about the North American release.
Ugh, I still have to finish Super Mario RPG and Super Punchout before I can let myself get Majora's Mask (or any other VC games -- I still have never played Super Metroid or Secret Of Mana)

Don't buy Super Metroid or Secret Of Mana. They were, I dare to say, bad choices.
I have said this before and have burned at the stake for it but I stand by what I say.
Word of mouth isn't always great advice. Hell I might be wrong and you might enjoy it. But I didn't and the VC has a TON more to offer.

Don't listen to this joker. Super Metroid is a fantastic game. I can't speak for SoM though. In either case, they may simply not be your thing but unless you've played similar games before you won't know until you try.

Look man, all I am saying is he should be prepared for what he buys. I didn't like it, but was told it was as if it were the second coming in game form.
Coming from someone who never played Super Metroid back in the day, its a well designed game and I really enjoyed it. One of the better titles I've played on VC. I can see why people would hate on Secret of Mana though.
Speaking of games that people seemed to love, I could not fucking get Super Mario RPG. It bored me and I gave up at some point (I think that's more my inability to play RPG games now).
Anyone have Swords and Soldiers? I think I want to try it.
Super Metroid is one of my all-time favorite games, but I can see how someone would find it kind of mundane by today's standards. Though, mechanically, it remains one of the most well-designed 2D games on the market.

I still pull out Super Metroid periodically and play through it. What a great game.
It's amazing. It's exploratory and surprisingly deep, and there's tons to do and find and experiment with. All on top of an exciting adventure with a wide range of creatures and aliens and bosses and flora and fauna, along with a variety of weapons and items and upgrades to go destroy them with. The exploration is free, fun, and your hand is never held. The action is spot on and the battles are quite epic.
If you enjoy your action games being linear, typical, straightforward, and basic, I can see how you wouldn't care for Super Metroid. If you don't care for variety, uniqueness, atmosphere, epic battles, interesting creatures, interesting weapons, and a large and varied planet to explore, then it's not for you. If you don't enjoy beautifully detailed and fluidly animated 2D graphics and presentation combined with some of the best and most mood setting music of the 16 bit era, it won't be up your alley either.

I don't like the way it handles - most specifically, jumping. There's a lack of momentum to it which just feels artificial and flat, and makes the platforming elements frustrating and unsatisfying.
That's my only complaint. But for me, it's a big one.
I think Super Metroid is probably the best 2d sidescroller to have existed. I would say it is easily worth the price you pay for it, and if you are still on the fence, imagine Metroid Prime 1, 2 or 3, done with a contra engine.
Or, imagine Castlevania SotN, except a little faster paced and sci fi, replacing the RPG level/item system with upgradable action oriented weapons.

Ditto. I didn't play SMRPG back in the day, but I have a suspicion that it simply hasn't aged well. The pseudo-3D graphics that were such a big deal back in the day have aged horribly compared to more traditional sprites, and the Paper Mario games are better written. Combat wasn't anything to write home about.
I got up to Smithy, died, and just finished the game on Youtube. I had zero desire to sit through another tedious battle to find out what "happens."
Now, I didn't play Super Metroid until it showed up on the VC, and that I can recommend without reservation. That's just a beautiful game.
I could see it taking a while to adjust to Super Metroid, since it does feel a little stiff at first--especially next to Zero Mission and Fusion.
That said, it's fucking great and the latter two wish they gave you as many options at any given time as SM.

I loved Fusion, accept it held your hand far more than I like. I always liked in Super Metroid that with the wall jump and the multi bomb float, if you were experienced enough you could go almost anywhere you wanted at any time.

Seriously
There's one missile expansion that gave me some issues in SM; you had to speed-dash jump across a room, and from there, there were grappleable creatures floating over the gap to the other side over where you came in.
After a while, I said fuck it, speed-dash jumped, maneuvered backwards, wall jumped right up.
