To people wondering if they should get the Bubble Bobble and Adventure Island remakes, let me tell you this: Yes and no.
Bubble Bobble: It's listed as 600 points but it's effectively 1000. Expert levels, at 200 points for 50 levels and there's 100 of 'em. Someone said the physics are off, I really don't find it troublesome. They're maybe just a teeny tiny bit different, but they're not off. Just not the exact same as they were back in the days. It took me 2 levels to adapt, at most. It's great fun, I like the remixed music, and there is a difficulty level option. As for the graphics being ugly, I find them pretty decent on the contrary. I've not played long, but what I played was good. EDIT: After playing some more, I must admit that it can be a problem to not be able to bubbleclimb in very tight places. Sometimes you have to hit a water bubble or just die. Annoying, but not enough to make it not worth the money.
Conclusion: :^:
Adventure Island: This one feels off. It's a decent platformer. I mean, you get weapons, you run, jump, avoid enemies, advance in stages, but it's not "Adventure Island". It's a generic platformer. There is NONE of the charm of the original series. The graphics are boring (though I'll admit I only played 2 levels so far) and bland, the background is too rich and detailed (yet blurry and uninteresting) and it clashes with the platforms, making it hard to see enemies and fruits which have no outline or anything to make them stand out. The controls are off. Higgins stops dead in his tracks the very second you let go of the D-Pad. The music's not bad, but it's generic. Again, I haven't played much, but it's seemingly not worth 800 points.
Played through the original part one (The cellphone release, this part one is actually the first three parts combined) and...it's more FFIV, with a few additional features. Looks better than I expected. The font in particular which bugged me so looking at the screenshots actually works out pretty nicely.

Yeah, it was announced a while back. It's a port of a cell phone game, and is episodic. People in the Final Fantasy thread say this one costs 800 points, and subsequent episodes will be 300 points.
I might have to look into it, because FFIV was the first JRPG I played that really engaged me with its story.
NeoGAF is saying that it's actually $37, with the final episode being 800 points.
So it pretty much IS the price of a DS game.
I think I'll specifically wait until I see a sale/discount for Wii Point Cards......sorry, Nintendo Point Cards.....before I buy the whole thing.
And although its the nature of this particular beast, I DO NOT like the idea of having to pay more for the ending of a game. If this becomes a common practice in the near future (by anyone, not just SE), I won't be purchasing such games in the first place.
I'll probably check out the first episode and see if I like it from there. If the game is good, $37 for three to four months of game is a good deal. And if it's not, hey, I spend $8 for a middling RPG that still gives me a few hours of play.
Is there a gate on level 99 of Bubble Bobble Plus? If so how is it possible to get to it and if not would those levels be included in the expert pack? The levels after 99 were the best in the original game.

So we got one VC game today called Genghis Khan II or something.

SNES or Genesis port?
Genghis Khan II: Clan of the Gray Wolf
I remember playing that game so much back in the day. My brother and I would pick two opposing sides of the map and loot, pillage, plunder, and butcher our way across the fools who dared divide us.
And then kill the fuck out of each other when there was no one else left.

Got it:
DSiWare
Mario Calculator (Nintendo, 1 "player," 200 DSi Points) It's a calculator! With Mario imagery! It has a unit conversion utility, as well, though no idea if it will convert from dollars to Coins. Mario Clock (Nintendo, 1 "player," 200 DSi Points) It's a clock! With Mario imagery! This one actually lets you jump and pick up coins to unlock little animations. It also has up to three alarm clocks, in case you want to get tired of Mario sound effects (or your own DSi Sound creations) immediately. WiiWare
WiiWare
Eduardo the Samurai Toaster (Semnat Studios, 1-4 players, 800 Wii Points) A run-and-gun action game with four-player co-op, a variety of weapons and vehicles, and characters made of appliances.
Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure (Taito, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) Taito's refresh of the classic Bubble Bobble sequel, which, for the unfamiliar, swaps out bubbles for rainbows that can be used as platforms.
Let's Catch (Sega, 1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points) This WiiWare game from Prope, which is exactly what it sounds like (a game about playing catch with your family), happens to be the first WiiWare title published by Sega. It also apparently unlocks bonuses for owners of Let's Tap. Virtual Console:
Virtual Console
Space Harrier (Arcade, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) If you only played The 3-D Battles of WorldRunner as a kid, you're going to think this is quite the ripoff. But we assure you, it's the other way around.
Good lord, it's so difficult to find impressions/previews/ANYTHING about WiiWare games. I've been curious about Eduardo the Samurai Toaster for a while, mostly due to the absurd name , but I've seen a trailer and it looks kind of fun, although a bit janky and loose. Like a crazy Contra kind of game.

Yeah, it seems like there isn't much interest in WiiWare games these days. It's a shame because it looks like things have been picking up. Of course, the only WiiWare game I currently own is Bit.Trip Beat, but I am looking forward to the port of Cave Story.

It's kind of a Catch-22. Based on the way WiiWare is set up, I don't know if it's possible to give advance copies to press to preview, and given that there are no demos, gamers have a difficult time talking about them without just gambling and buying the darned things. I actually have five WiiWare games (Tetris Party, My Life as a King, Bit Trip Beat, Mega Man 9 and FFIV After Years), but I feel like I'd probably have a lot more if I could just demo them myself. Biggest limitation of the system.
It's very interesting that there's a WiiWare title (Let's Catch) that unlocks extra content with a matching retail title. I guess it just looks for a save file? I'm assuming people could just download a save and match up the bonus details.

edit: beaten about 3 times, it looks like.
Shit, really?
That just about killed any enthusiasm I had for this.
Too rich for your tastes? That's still less expensive than a full game would've been on DS.
It's a lot more than I expect to pay for a WiiWare game, and were it to be ported to the DS I could just wait a year or so for the price to go down.
So it pretty much IS the price of a DS game.

they're decent, but not nearly as good as their predecessor - DK '94.
