Dorm style bed

I need to get a bed and am used to the ones found in many universities. I'm talking about the style with two wooden bedposts, a metal wireframe that bolts inbetween them (usually at 1 of 2 different levels) and a simple mattress. I talked with my university and they won't sell me one, and their supplier only sells in bulk. Any ideas? I've done some ebay and google searching but haven't found what I'm looking for. Thanks!

I'd sugget you search your local furniture stores. Probably looking for just a single bed...and the bedframe itself can almost be negligible I would think. Does it HAVE to be wooden ends?

If metal ends would be as sturdy I wouldn't care. Most of the beds I've seen have an all wooden frame that seems like it would be more difficult to relocate, but that isn't going to happen much. I'm more worried about finding a similar mattress, which I have been miserably unsuccessful at going to stores so far.

I believe most university dorms are furnished with a twin extra long mattress/bed. Hope that helps.

Something you might try...if you know the phone number to call the company that provides the Uni with these beds...then you may be able to get some information out of them. Specifically:

    1) Exactly what size of bed it is.
    2) Maybe even a part number or something like that. They must order them...find out what it used when ordering it. Then you can possibly talk to a furniture store and see if they deal with this company or can find some way to go through someone to get a bed from that company.

I work in customer service, and we have people call us all the time. Get part numbers and stuff, then go through other dealers or other stores to supply them. We won't sell to just anyone...and that company apparently only sells in bulk. Maybe you can find someplace that orders from that company already and pick one up. Who knows.

@ Kato: That's a good idea, I'll get their contact info.

@ Pulvaan: I don't have a box spring and don't need a headboard/footboard. I might get that frame with box springs if I can't find a way to get the bedframe I have in mind. Next time I post I'll get some pics so you guys have a better idea of what I'm trying to describe

What about one of these? Ikea beds always make me think "dorm furniture"

Are there any other universities around? I'm surprised yours won't sell you one - I worked in university salvage for a summer, and we had extra bedframes by the dozen. Snoop around for colleges with a Salvage department - they unload their used furniture and hardware on the cheap.

I've found bunk beds but not a single bed.

    Edit:
I take that back I found this. It's lofted but it looks like what you're looking for.

Yeah, another idea, and depending on the size of your university they may or may not be willing to do this, see if you can get them to order you one when they order theirs. I realise if they are ordering hundreds or thousands like they usually would adding 1 to the batch wont give them much of a bulk discount, but if they just buy like a dozen or so a year they might even benefit by getting theirs at a lower cost.
