Dirty Shower/Tub

So after a few weeks of living here I realized that there was some gunk building up around my drain. I scrubbed it away and figured .... I dunno. Dust or something had collected. Anyway, it continued to build and I realized its the dirt that I'm washing off. Gross. So I scrub it off as it builds up, but now the rest of the tub is building up on it and its nasty. My hair is in there and stuff and the tub simply isn't draining properly. As I shower, the water builds up around my feet and doesn't drain. So I figure this is why the dirt is still there, because its not going anywhere and just sticks.

Any easy remedies?

You really should call your landlord if renting, it's their job to fix the plumbing. If they won't or you don't want to call them I've had good luck with that canned air drain cleaner. I'm not sure there are even chemicals in it, the main idea is to blast out any clogs. You really don't want draino in there as if that backs up on you it could be not fun.

Drano. Bleach. Fire. But, Try the drano and bleach first.

A side note... I stayed at my mother-in-law's house in Japan for two weeks. They have these really deep bathtubs there, fantastic stuff... except, every time I'd take a bath, little chunks of nasty would be floating around in the water. My wife said it was build-up from the drain. I said I was never taking a bath there again. And I didn't.

Drain cleaner then CLR for the build up. Should set you in the right course, but if it persists get your landlord to take a look at it :) Once its clear it might be worth invested in a "post-shower spray" where you simply spray and leave it on the surface after your shower. I haven't had to scrub my shower for months because it works so well.
