Yesterday I had to reformat my computer due to a lot of crap that was going on with it. I'm currently undergoing the tedious process of getting everything on my computer back to how it was, which is proving tricky.
I used to have a custom windows shell that I installed ages ago, and don't remember how I did it. I've tried look at an FAQ and ended up running UXTheme Multi Patcher as suggested. However, whenever I try to load a custom theme I just get a long winded error message saying an exception has occured.
Anybody got any ideas on how I can fix this, or know of a different program I can try running to get a custom theme to work?
EDIT: So, I actually got the patcher to work and managed to reshell Windows, but now, whenever I turn my computer back on, the shell isn't there and I have to reapply it. Any ideas on how to get it to stick?
The multipatcher's always worked fine for me. I do remember having trouble figuring out the directory structure, and not being able to get some themes to work at all.

Make sure you're using the correct version of the multipatcher - there are several different versions for XP (service pack 3 for instance).

Yeah, that seems to have been my problem, was using a version of the multipatcher for Service Pack 2 instead of 3. Problem is solved now. Thanks guys.
