Community Service

Could anyone here tell me some things about community service? Things like how can I sign up for it, what might I end up doing, how does it work, etc. I've asked my parents, I've asked my friends, and I've asked a social worker, and none of them seem to have any real answers.

One friend says that basically they'll put me to work somewhere, like as a school janitor, and they'll pay regular wages for that job, except each pay period half will go toward paying off whatever it was that needed to be paid. He didn't elaborate on how to sign up.

So just to make sure I get this, you're talking about court ordered community service yes?

Nah. I'm talking about opting to pay court ordered fines with community service. Which honestly I'm not even sure I can do. Some lady at the United Way told me I could when I mentioned my fines to her.

Ah, ok. I'm not sure how that would work, I've never heard of that before but it sounds plausible.

Call the courthouse first, I would think, and find out what sort of stuff they'll accept.

Failing that you could just go to United Way or the Salvation Army. They always need people.
