PAA - Steam Mistake

So here's the story (and maybe, just maybe someone who sees it can help):

I went to rainslick.com and read the FAQ's and everything and saw that, once you purchase the game, your license key is good on whatever platform you want. That made me happy. I clicked on the Buy Now! link at the top of the window.

From there, I get choices for which download service I want to use. I happily click the Steam link as I think Steam is a fine distribution platform and I happen to have an account thanks to the HL series. I then realize that I can't install Steam since I'm now on a Mac. I also don't feel like running the game in a VM, so I hop on over to the next room and ask one of my tenants if I can login on his computer (he's already got Steam installed and everything) and buy the game. I do exactly that.

Once that's done, I wait for the email with the license key. I get an email saying thanks for purchasing and wait some more for the license key.

I wait some more.

I eat dinner and wait some more.

I decide to hop on this forum and start reading about how people are ticked that their license from Greenhouse (something I'd never heard of) won't work on Steam because there's no place to put in the license key yet they want Steam's achievements. "Suckers", I think to myself, "Steam is really the only way to go." Then, STOP. Hammer Time. My eyes glance over a post in that thread where someone says that Greenhouse keys won't work on Steam because Steam doesn't use license keys for the game. I also then read that, if you bought the game on Steam, you *don't get a license key*. My face dropped onto my keyboard.

Where in the world does it say this? Why wasn't this posted somewhere *before* I bought the game? Nowhere during the purchase process did it say that I wouldn't get a license key.

So what can I do now? I've already emailed Steam support for a refund (I've not opened the game once yet) and I haven't gotten a reply yet from Hothead after 3 days. Any suggestions or ideas on what I can do? If I can't get a refund, is anyone willing to trade a PAA license key for Half-Life 2 (I still have the gift credit from buying the Orange Box/Ep1)? I know 20 bucks isn't that much but I feel slightly cheated and don't want to pay another $20, when $40 would've bought me the collector's set and bypassed these issues.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks in advance for the help...

Well, I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting this to be resolved that quickly.

For those of you who read this, everything is fine. In fact, it's wonderful. Not only did I get a response from Hothead, but it was a response from the COO. He personally emailed me, sympathizing for the issue and promptly worked with me to resolve the issue.

I can't stress enough how much that customer service amazed me. I urge everyone to go out and buy this game because it's fantastic but also because it'll support this fantastic company. They basically took what could've been a very negative situation and made it supremely positive. These guys are at the top of their game and I can't wait for the next episode. I'll definitely be buying Ep 2 when it comes out in the Collector's Edition.

Again, thank you, thank you, thank you to Hothead. I'm a promoter for life.

Gabe and Tycho - You made a very wise choice.

    Peace!
