Computer doesn't beep on post

I'm building a computer and after turning it on, the monitor doesn't recieve a signal and the computer doesn't beep on POST. I've pulled all the components out one by one and still have the same problem, no picture and no beeps.

The light on the mobo turns on and all the fans start up, so I'm pretty sure everything is plugged in correctly to the motherboard. With just the mobo and cpu plugged in (no ram, no gpu, etc.) the computer should still beep right?

Any help would be great!

I think you have to have ram as well. That being said are you sure you have an internal speaker plugged into the mobo?

Some mobos have internal speakers, some don't. It should still POST if you don't have ram in, and at least that's something. If you're sure the gpu is ok, it might be the mobo or power supply. I've seen a bad power supply cause something like this.

Yeah, apparently my mobo doesn't have an internal speaker (first time i've encountered that). It had some audio cable I plugged in but that was apparently for some audio ports on the front panel. I'll see if I have another video card to try in it.

    wow

track down a user manual either in dead tree form or on the manufacturers website. i would think it would have some basic instructions on how to diagnose some problems. i think different motherboards will do different things depending on the problem.

also, see if you have any buddies with a spare PSU and see if their PSU works with your mobo.

Its easier just to grab an internal speaker, they normally come with your case not your mobo, and plug it up.

So the video card (GeForce 8600) works in another computer, and the video card from the other computer (Radeon x1950) works in this one. So right now I guess I'll just live with those computers having swapped video cards.
