So Ginger placed an indestructible sapper on mah sentry today
I call hax
Did he put the sapper on while it was upgrading? That's happened to me before too. It just keeps sapping but each wrench hit heals the sentry, but doesn't destroy the sapper. So you're basically stuck wrenching it forever or letting it blow up then rebuild it.
Yeah I think so
it was so crazy. I kept hitting the sentry, WHICH KEPT ON FIRING as it was being sapped and then I ran out of metal and it blews up
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that. The sentry was still operational, despite being sapped.
I was wondering if anyone had a guestpass I could have. I've been playing on my 360 alot, and I'd like to see if it will run on this laptop because I'd love to switch to the PC if possible.

Ah. I bet I gave the wrong email. I gave my steam login email, which differs from my steam contact email. The correct email would be [email protected] if anyone feels inclined to shoot another guest pass my way.
Ok so a little balance question for you guys on how you feel about some stuff. Overall I like TF2 a lot and it's balanced much better than TFC. Don't know how I would care it to TF1, but anyways some pet peeves:
The upgraded syringe gun for Medics IMHO is a little "redonkulous" or whatever. Assuming you have a smooth enough PC to keep a good aim, it imbalances quite a few battles currently. Like Medic vs. Sniper with pistol or knife. Against the Demoman unless they have range or get some lucky hits. They can even out-heal a Pyro coming at them assuming they don't take pointblank damage from the flames. Or are we supposed to just deal with imbalances until all the classes get their alternate loadouts?
Spies overall seem to either dominate or be near the top of most maps I've played on. With Engineering equipment usually being an easy 6-8 points, and backstabs being virtually impossible to dodge unless you uncloak too early. The "shadowy" effect doesn't appear to work often enough, and there is the annoying "frontal backstab" glitch" that happens. Sure the class doesn't have that much longevity, but they almost always can come away with at least 1 kill before dying, which is a lot better than most classes in the game.
So what do other ppl think, or have any peeves of your own? Am I just full of shit, or any agreement on these?

I wonder if they'll bother giving an update to the engineer's Destroy Building ability. Like allowing it to still destroy buildings but having them explode, doing damage to enemies near the blown up building instead.
so, the other day, I log on to tf2 and try to join job's server, only to get a message saying that I've been banned from all VAC-secured servers for haxxoring. Now, having neither gone within 10ft of anything remotely like cheats for..well, any games on steam, nor given my account info to anyone, I found this a little fishy and/or disturbing. Later, after having gone through their policy on VAC bans and talking to a few people about it, I started to feel a sense of doom about this business, which was confirmed after going round and round with csrs after I opened a ticket about it.
Any suggestions? It's not the end of the world, but I would really like to play tf2 again and I'm not too keen to fork over another 50 dollars just because someone was feeling especially draconian that day.
Send me a best guess of date/time when this happened and I will look into it for you. The server may have logged the reason why.
hi, sry to respond so late. I first noticed the ban in the evening on the 16th of this month, but as someone said earlier VAC appears to delay the actual ban after determining there are cheats for days, weeks, months...not really known; I can't even be sure that i was playing on your server...or that I was even playing tf2 at all when whatever I did wrong was registered.
To reply to what someone else said - I haven't downloaded ANYTHING for tf2 or any first party steam games. I've downloaded a few 3rd party mods for steam, but they were all from the developer's sites and are well known mods (the specialists, natural selection, etc). I haven't downloaded any customisations for those either, but they aren't secured by VAC anyway. I did have a concern that some random public server I joined at some point (I dun have any in particular in mind, just saying) may have had me download a custom file that was somehow compromised - I don't know if this is even possible, but if that was what happened I'd be pretty pissed off.
My best guess as to what happened is that either that my account details somehow got hacked, or broken in to, or whatever, and someone used my account to play while cheating on a different box, or that something I had running that was not at all related to tf2 but that VAC decided was bad set it off. I have no real defense or way to disprove either of those possibilities, but I think I will try to find a number I can call to get in contact with CSRs and see if I can hash it out some, as I didn't seem to make any progress via support ticket. A friend suggested I could contact the better business bureau and open a ticket, which seems a little extreme, but the whole thing is a little bullshit so I might just do it anyway if I can't get anywhere otherwise.

I kind of agree with your medic comments. Some of the spy comments made me laugh aloud. Lol if you will.
There really are quite a few imbalances when it comes to 1v1 gameplay, which is why there are rarely servers with only 2 people in them. The game is meant to be played with at least 5v5 (I've found, this and to about 13v13 works, anything higher or lower and it's just boring) and you're supposed to work together as a team to take down the enemy.
I've seen a few spies that are godlike, and it's only because the other team doesn't pay enough attention or spycheck enough. If everyone had microphones (and USED them!) then these spies would have a LOT more problems.
The only thing I don't like right now is the fact that there's facestabs and occasionally backstabs don't work. People say this evens out, which I, sadly, agree with. I've had a few times where my backstab should have worked, but didn't, but then soon after I'll get a facestab on a medic with an undeployed uber.
Aegis: That's what happened in TFC, and the only purpose of dispensers in TFC was to place in choke points or around corners and strategically destroy them to do lots of damage. It was fun to do, but I don't think it would be very good for TF2. The Demoman's stickies already take care of that, and if you give the engineers this ability, I think we would see a lot more sucky engineers pretending to be demomen.
EDIT: regarding Medic vs Pyro: Medics used to go down to flames ALL the time. Now, with the blut, it allows medics a fighting chance to stay alive. In any case, the pyro shouldn't be running at a medic who is watching him. The pyro should be trying to sneak up on the medic. I haven't seen many medics survive if they get snuck up on by a pyro.
Same goes for Heavy vs Pyro. Pyro should lose if he rushes headon into the heavy, but if he sneaks up on the heavy, he has a good, fighting chance at winning if he's skilled enough.

Playing a spy on a PA server, or any other well organized server, is very difficult. Granted, I'm not the best spy (I'm horrible), but I find it to be almost impossible to pull off a good act with this group. I don't think I can recall a time where someone has made it to the top of a round on John's by just playing spy.
EDIT: BrokenTripod just reminded me, it's especially hard since we mostly all have mics.

If the pyro manages to start burning you, you are going to die unless he's somewhat low on health. You had to eat a dangerous amount of flame in order to react and a smart one will switch to shotty to finish you. With the dropoff lowered, the Blut is NOT going to outheal the damage you take, and that's not even considering the stray crit.
And I expect to have the upper hand against a Sniper using my primary weapon when he or she is using the secondary.
EDIT: Blut is way better than the standard Syringe, however. Something should change there.

Pyros have these things called shotguns and flare guns. Newbie pyros refuse to use them when people are out of range. Also a pyro can't catch up to a medic anyway so you're usually better off breaking it off one-on-one if he's out of flamer range.

Also, Jediknight, spies dominate on pubs but are usually hellish to play on private servers, because better TF2 players tend to be furiously paranoid and will fill a section of wall with lead if it looks at them funny.
With pyros especially, one bump or glimpse of a cloak glitch or smokescreen is reason enough for the pyro to turn the whole area into a cloud of purifying flame.
Well they tried to balance it by having it not crit, but still giving up crits is definitely worth it. And medics need help to survive. Before medics would hardly ever survive if they found themselves alone against another class, especially a pyro. Now they have a fighting chance to get away. And if you're a pyro running straight at a medic who is needling you to death then you deserve to die. Back off, use the shotgun a couple of times, and wait for the flame damage to do its work.
And really, only the very best PA spies make it to the top three, and even then it's not that often. But if you've been playing on pubs then I can see how you'd think spies are imbalanced. People who are really, really good at spy can wipe out entire teams who aren't communicating. And I'm sure there are non-PA people who specialize in spy enough to be really great at it.
I believe the blutsauger is more powerful than the needlegun, but I don't know about overpowered. Pyros definitely have a harder time, and the needleguns in general have some strangely good precision. I've been able to take out sentryguns, heavies, soldiers, and all other sorts of crap if I'm at a decent enough range. But considering how they aren't very strong, I don't think a medic would be able to go all combat like with just the blutsauger. They wouldn't last long and they're better off healing.
As for spies, I had to play for a long fucking time before I considered myself good at spy. (About 60 hours, I didn't really have confidence till the tournament). They're one of the classes that are very good against inexperienced players, but very difficult to play against seasoned players (just like the engineer really). Once you've played for a while, you can catch all sorts of hints as to spies, and soon you'll practically know when you see a spy in disguise, and even sometimes when there's a cloaked spy, even when it's just you brushing up against one. I don't think they're overpowered, but I do think a good player can totally sweep the floor of a team that is less than great.
Same goes for Heavy vs Pyro. Pyro should lose if he rushes headon into the heavy, but if he sneaks up on the heavy, he has a good, fighting chance at winning if he's skilled enough.
This kind of bothers me that this so rarely happens now. I can be using the backburner, get a good second and a half of point blank flames on a heavy, and I know if he turns around I'm fucked. It shouldn't nearly as bad as before with the +50 HP but I'd like to win a little more often.
Quaz, Jakorian, Origami and Orikae are pretty much the only really consistently threatening spies, though there are a couple who don't play that often and are quite good. I recall PotU being decent too. And marty, actually, but he's pretty great with every class so.
