Pretentious, in that case I think you're demanding that a sniper take proportionately more skill than the other classes. Like I just said, no health, no escape options, no splash damage, reload after each shot, no secondary weapon to speak of and god help you if you're caught in scope.
And people overestimate the sniper rifle in terms of damage. A noscope does 30 damage. 30.
I'm surprised no one mentions upping noscope damage in their ideas for an upgraded sniper rifle.
How about a rifle that does 25%-ish more damage noscoped, but takes longer to charge (or even can only charge 50-75% of the way?) it would be used by the more Flippy/speedy snipers than the more amateur ones who rely on their charges to do the killing.
I'd love it because I'm the worst zoomed shot in the west. I do decently with noscope, though. (This is what I get for training in TFC, charging while unscoped and getting kills, Baaaad haaabitts.)
The real point here is not that any given class takes skill, but that each class takes a different kind of skill. While scout and sniper both rely on twitch reflex ability, sniper puts a stronger emphasis on accuracy while scout puts more on movement(dodging) and anticipation of enemies for the purpose of flanking.
In terms of tactical skill, snipers are very arguably the least involved. There are specific areas on each map where a sniper can succeed, and the basic strategy is to move to one that flanks the enemy and shoot mans until they find you, then relocate. The tradeoff is that it requires precise physical reflexes to hit most enemies. I think the real problem that many have is that strategy can be learned by almost anyone with enough interest, whereas the physical skill a sniper requires can't be "learned" in a normal sense. It can be honed, but it takes far longer to train reflexes, and there's always going to be a significant difference between someone who has to practice and someone who can do it naturally. And of course, because sniper is less cognitive skill and more physical skill, there's some natural resentment along the lines of "I have to constantly anticipate my enemy, and always be ready to fight or die. All he has to do is point and click."
How long does it take to get to Edmonton from Ottowa?
2 Days if you floor it and don't really stop.
3 days is a more reasonable estimate.
Are you sure this grandpa/uncle/relative of yours isn't from the future, and it takes 6 hours to teleport that far? (The amount of time it takes to reconstruct his body?)
You should question him about this, and get a video of it and put it on youtube.
I play every class with at least some degree of (d)ef[strike]f[/strike]iciency, so double hah
Well most people do, I just listed the ones where I pretty much could top the charts(except medic because for medics it is too easy to get points, not a good gauge of how well you're actually medicing)
Also: dammit medics, follow me into blazes of death and glory. You do not need to heal that random pretentious when I'm raping half of the other teams' faces off.

Just wanted to post to say it was cool meeting everyone at PAX, JonXP, Deadlysherpa, and Skarsol. We had a really nice moment while you guys were playing the Order of the Schtick board game in the Sheraton lounge. I don't know if guys noticed, but I had a cold during the whole convention, so if you guys got sick, you know who to blame. And if you see I guy wearing a facemask in the PAX line in one of the DVD interviews, that's probably me.

I tried to find Jon at PAX but I couldn't find him anywhere. I was devastated.
I was one of the four people wearing the headcrab hats. We got a picture with Wil Wheaton, it was rather bitchin'.
I am apparently only allowed to be competent at Sniper once per month, and Badwater today was my fifteen minutes in the sun. I used up my monthly allotment of Pyro competence on the next map, too, so I guess it's back to the upper-middle of the scoreboard for me.

Neither the whole of truth nor the whole of good is revealed to any single observer, although each observer gains a partial superiority of insight from the peculiar position in which he stands. It is enough to ask of each of us that he should be faithful to his own opportunities and make the most of his own blessings, without presuming to regulate the rest of the vast field.
I guess it is because I only have 45 hours as a sniper compared to other people's 300 hours.
For reals. I mean, I do only have ~ 80 hours sniping and I really just don't snipe much anymore, but I do have a 15 headshot record, even if it was a pub.
Anyone know if they are working on an official version of Rock2 from TF1? I'm kinda disappointed that cp_well is nothing like the original well6 from TF1 either =\

There's a version of Rock2 from TFC (never played QWTF, so not sure if it's different) on fpsbanana but some of the options are a bit weird plus I'm not sure how it works without detpacks

The original as far as I remember just had the gas release, I don't remember any detpack stuff. But I will admit that was a loooong time ago, so my memory is kind of foggy on the exact win conditions.
There was another map from TF1 that I really liked, but can't remember the name of anymore. It was 2 bases separated by a lake (no bridge) -- remember having to always watch out for people tossing electric charges into the water lol...

Isn't that the one where you go to the enemy's base, steal the key, and then activate something to gas everyone in their base? Except the people who get the suits to protect themselves from the deadly gas?

Oh, crap, I somehow missed half of JediNight's post.
I was thinking of TFC, and that's the map. I was thinking of remaking it for TF2 at some point, then decided not to because there was a chance it would be like 2fort and be a turtle match.
I'm still sad 2fort isn't as enjoyable as it is/was on TFC. At least, not for me

Several pages back people were talking about good medics and I just wanted to chime in and mention Morninglord, Roland, and Musan as great medics that I love having on my team. I do, however, worry about Musan's blood pressure and the significant negative effect he has on my self-esteem. "Icy...Kill him...kill him...OH. MY. GOD."

Uh, it *is* like the old one.
The QuakeWorldTF one.
I'm pretty sure that's older than any namby-pamby TFC map that may bear a similar name to it.
