Can anyone recommend some good over the counter acne cream? It's nothing serious, I just have a bit of acne left over from high school that I'd like to get rid of before college starts up again.
Other hygiene tips and suggestions are welcome as well.
I haven't really used acne creams so I don't have a recommendation in that regard. I don't follow my own advice but I hear it works so here goes:
Wash face often
Don't touch face with hands/body
Don't eat too much greasy food (oils, cheeses, fast foods...)
Are you eating healthily and drinking enough water? Keeping yourself hydrated and eating lots of vegetables and fruits will do wonders for your skin.
The rule with acne medication is to start mild and work your way up until you find something that gets rid of your acne without totally drying your face out. I'd try something with salicylic acid at first, using it once every other day; you can bump it up to once a day after awhile, but don't wash your face more than that or you'll irritate your skin. On off-days, wash with a mild soap and don't pick at your zits. Things might get slightly worse as buried zits come to the surface, but give it some time.

If they have a 2.5% or a 5% version I would start with that. The 10% may be too strong for a beginner.
