I need a longshot. But really, unless I was involved in some kind of Nerf CTF, it would be really impractical. My favorite gun isn't even Nerf, its an offbrand Shotgun you load but ejecting cartriges and putting darts in. I want a pump action one though.
But seriously, we have to set up a PAX Nerf war. Will they allow nerf weapons into the convention centre? I thought i heard someone say they didn't at the Meydenbauer.
This is a friendly note to all those planning on bringing your Nerf arsenals to PAX this year, we have been asked by MBC staff to keep it off their premises. This is a complete ban. Don't even bring them into the event.
Now with this info we would also like to remind you that this ban will also include the PAX satellite location at the Red Lion.
Remember that your actions will determine how well we are received at other venues and hotels. If word gets around that our people don't give a damn about the rules then it's going to be a pain to continue to grow.
Thanks for your time.
I would assume the same is going to be in effect for the WSCC.

Thats probably the closest you can get to an offical nerf shotgun, its not quite there but it is pump action.
Also whould it possible to extend the clips for the longshot to accomidate more ammo? Id love to try to mod one into an assualt rifle, put a torch in the bottom or something.

You could pretty easily mod the clips to be alot longer, or even banana if you wanted.
Its just a matter of cutting the bottom, and getting a larger spring to push them up, you need to keep the top ~7/8th the same though because it contains the lock and the feeding mechanism, and those would be hard to replicate.
Personally I wouldn't start modding clips until Hasbro starts selling replacements, as you're pretty much screwed if you break them.

I just got a stock longshot last night. I am going to use it in the nerf arms race we have going on at work for a while, and then I think I'm going to attempt the pump shotgun mod.

Okay, so I just took my Longshot apart again and put it back together and it seems to be working now. I'm willing to bet the piece that locks the plunger back was in a funky position. Anyway, the thing is a lot more powerful now that the air restrictor is out. I don't have numbers, but I'm thinking at least twice as powerful. It's also about twice as loud, but tis the price of power.

:^: now to see how long you can resist cracking it open and putting in a new spring.

Hmm... I was going to pull the restrictors while I work on the shotgun-style cocking mod, but now I'm not sure. My nerf action is all cubical-wars at work, and I'm not sure if I want it _that_ powerful or loud, if I'm only going to be using it from ~5-15 feet away.

Probably not then, but I'm not even sure why you would buy a longshot for ranges that close.
It makes it a pump action instead of a bolt action.
It basically gives you more leverage, and makes it so you don't have to take either hand off the gun to cock it.
You are forgetting the most important part, which is also why you would buy a longshot for a short-range, indoor area. In the arms race, it gives you the most badass looking gun.
I just picked up a pair of Mavericks at Target on sale for $7.99/ea. I fully intend on painting these bad boys as soon as I have the time. I don't know if these will get a lot of use at work as most of us have offices. My apartment however has a large tennis court that is well lit even at night. Methinks it would make for a good nerf arena.
But seriously, we have to set up a PAX Nerf war. Will they allow nerf weapons into the convention centre? I thought i heard someone say they didn't at the Meydenbauer.

Well then, we'll just have to plan this outside the WSCC premises. We'll do it in the dead of night, in the middle of an empty field, dressed all in black. Or just in the afternoon in a parking garage. Or at night. The sun hurts the dermis...
What have ye to say on this matter, brethren? Shall we indeed wage war in the parking garages and public parks of Seattle?

There's bound to be someplace that'll let you do it. Just go to a park or something, although you may need to get pre-approval from the local authorities to have 40 nerds running around shooting shit at each other.
20 v 20 Nerf CTF in a park would be awesome, although you'd need referees and a lot of organisation.

I just took the handle off the gun attachment of the Longshot. Now it looks 10 times cooler. That extra handle always bugged me.
Hmm. I bought a Maverick and tried to do the basic air limiter removal mod, but stripped the screws on the barrel. Fortunately, the gun still works and is fairly accurate, and it also gives me an excuse to purchase a second one to do the modification right. Man, I really want to shoot stuff now... this a bad thing?
Nah, it's kind of superflous since I have 2 Mavericks for sidearms.
The extension itself is superfluous as all it does is decrease the range of the darts and make it look cooler.
fixed
And it increases the accuracy slightly. Plus, the thing shoots so damn hard now that I took out the restrictor that it's nice to have something to slow it down a bit indoors.
I picked one of the mini marshmallow shooters @ rei for ~25, it doesnt look like it would work well, but it RAWKS!!! Nothing like unleashing about 25 rounds of semi automatic hot sugary death at someone in under a few seconds. The best part about it is a bag of marshmallows can take you through 20-30 clips and you dont have to worry about losing the ammo.

When it gets closer to PAX '07 time, i'll rally the troops, lay down some ground rules, and call the Seattle Board of Nerds Shooting Foam Weapons. The SBoNSFW, for short.

I just got my camera back from the shop, so I took a whole slew of pictures to make up for it being away from me for so long (and to get all the settings back where I want them). Anyways, enjoy, and forgive the crappy lighting. It really messed with some of the shots, made the metal look two different shades between pictures. Going for a severe weathered look here.
I just thought this was a neat shot, so I had to share.

No, that's all handled by the Patchwork Man and his wireless telegraph tower.
I'm still looking for some decent black Krylon spray primer around here. The best I've found is grey, so I may just go with that.

Murder on the ammo supply, though. I think we only found half of what we shot.
RF ID tags might be the best thing to happen to nerf in a while.
That is very simply outstanding. And you guys said NerfHQ has the specs on how to mod that correctly?
that is completely awesome. nobody can say otherwise.
