Although, just because it's Captain Marvel doesn't necessarily mean it's Genis. What if it's Mar-Vell?

God I hope it's Genis and not his daddy :|.

    Well fuck

    You're right

Nova would make total sense though, and he's pretty much the most badass person in the Marvel universe right now.

Mar-Vell's been around for a while. Since 1967.

That preview copy has me fairly convinced they're bringing back Mar-Vell. Genis-Vell was a great character but I don't think anybody at the Marvel offices considered him one of Marvel's greatest heroes. Oh, my nerd rage will be mighty if they resurrect Mar-Vell.

"Within The Negative Zone, the walls of 42, are pulled back to reveal the return of one of the Marveldom’s greatest heroes…now face-to-face with a Universe they no longer recognize."

"They" is grammatically incorrect, and the only reason to use it is to be gender neutral. Why would they need to hide the character's gender? Are they just entertaining the possibility that it's a woman because they think we might actually expect a woman? Or might it actually be a woman?

What's happening with Phyla-Vell in Annihilation?

Also, it might not be as important as we think. The Return could be just one of the new one shots to spin out of the whole "Civil War Delay" (meaning it wasn't planned until they had the delay and scrambled to put together a bunch of new one shots and tie-ins which weren't orginally planned or on the checksheet).

all I'm saying is that if it were Nova, the symbol would be red and shaped like Nova's.

Instead it is gold and shaped exactly like the original Captain Marvel's.

Generic symbol or not, the fact that it's shaped and colored exactly like the emblem of the character who has been supposedly up for a comeback for quite a while means that it's more than likely him.

Regardless I'm done beating this dead horse.

So, how about that Civil War? I hear it has two sides.

Just to add some more fuel to the fire...

[spoiler:dfec277218] Look at the solicit for Annihilation. Nova's is in the MIDDLE of the fight with Annihilus, which means, presumably, the fight end's in that issue. As we all know, Annihilus has the Quantum(spelling no!!) Bands. Tack on what Joe Q said about an Annihilation/Cival War Crossover, where he basically said that it will happen, kind of.

Here's my speculation. The Nova/Annihilus fight takes place around the same area as the Neg. Zone prison. Annihilus and and Nova stalemate, and the Nova force is destroyed, leaving Richie half dead. In desperation, he takes the Bands from Annihilus, bam, new Cap. Marvel. After that, it's all gravy...[/spoiler:dfec277218]
