I recall way back when I had all the infinite gauntlet comics (Before they were destroyed in "the incident") but I can't for the life of me remember what the gauntlet does. I just remember Adam Warlock and his buddies had the gems. That little short hairy guy kept his between his toes.

They don't really work off eachother as far as I know. They can do essentialy anything described by thier name. They are only limited by the will and complexity of the person weilding them. For example - Thanos was able to kill off half of the entire Marvel U, send people spiraling through time, and imprison every major cosmic power. When Nebula got it, she just kinda stared at them and maybe would have destroyed the universe by accident.

Ironically, the gem is the gateway to an idyllic, pocket-universe.
Reality (yellow) - Perhaps the most powerful, and most difficult to utilize. Allows the user to fulfill wishes - even if in direct contradiction with scientific laws. Can result in disaster if not careful as to the nature of the wish.
Time (orange/red) - Allows the user total mastery of time. Past, present and future are all accessible or visible through its power. With advanced training in the use of the gem, time can even be used as a weapon, trapping enemies or entire worlds in unending loops of time.
Power (red/pink) - Contains access to all power and energy that ever has or will exist, and backs the other gems and boosts their effects. Allows the user to duplicate almost any physical superhuman ability and become invincible and therefore unbeatable when using raw power alone.
There's also a seventh gem (Ego) but it's probably not canon

It's complicated. In a comic book kind of way. He's very very powerfull, but he has limits and he's not omniscent for... a reason... in the book. So he can be plotted against.
I'd recommend picking up the Infinity Gauntlet trade, it's fucking badass.

He didn't know how to fully use the power. Just because whoever has the infinty gauntlet has complete power doesn't mean they'll know how to use it. If you do not know how to control the gems then outside of the whole being invulnerable thing you won't have much power.
