As far as CW going............nothing happened

I was pretty pissed off with how Speedball was treated in Alias a few years ago, but this... Christ almighty.

Who will Squirrel Girl love now?

Edit: Oh, in regards to CW #6: Prodigy is gonna get his shit ruined.

[spoiler:f26e9d8e23]Pretty much from the off, really, given that CLOC is managing the embarkation gates for the Negative Zone prison, whilst the gates themselves are also Sentry's (previously seen in Sentry: Reborn). Bob himself is more or less sitting out the War but popping in from time to time when he feels it to be really necessary. In one of the Frontline (I think) issues Maria Hill asks a trooper to give Sentry her thanks for allowing CLOC to monitor Speedball in hospital, but to also remind him that taking a more pro-active stance would be even better.

I didn't get hold of Sentry's New Avengers CW issue though, so I'm not sure what else went on in that bar what I've read here.[/spoiler:f26e9d8e23]

I think it's kinda funny how much people are bitching about Speedball and saying that the character is ruined. How do you ruin a character that was already more or less crap? Nobody gave a shit about Speedball 2 years ago and now people are suddenly acting like he was the coolest thing since the achy breaky heart.

Hey I don't care about the character, hadn't even heard about him up to civil war. But having followed the Civil War, the way in which he's gone from fame-seeking hero to gothic anti-hero is just lame. They basically just wanted a new hero who could be all dark and grim and call it all bad ass because he used to be a kid hero. The Ghey.

My thing with Speedball is that this latest development seems 100% out of character for him, not even going back to New Warriors, but just within Frontline itself.

Also, taking someone with cool powers and turning him into Adam X The Xtreme parte deux is f'ing retarded.

I agree about Speedball, just from what I've seen of him in Frontline. He went from "I didn't do it, don't blame me" to "I shall live each day of my life in perpetual pain and agony for my sins" really, really fast.

The only issue is, I just don't give a fuck. I mean, I didn't care about Speedball before Civil War, I didn't care about him during Civil War, and I won't care about him afterwards.

I can understand if he has this cult following that is upset by the mischaracterization... but I think the majority of comic book readers just aren't going to give a damn.

I read New Warriors when I was younger. I didn't hate Speedball. I actually liked him in Frontline up until this point.

But now, now that he feels 612 unique points of pain, mom, Susie Federer is jabbing me right in the balls, mom, I kind of want him to go away.

I guess I'm in the minority who liked Speedball the way he was. New Warriors was one of the first comics I bought every issue of instead of just grabbing whatever looked interesting on the rack at the local drugstore.

I wouldn't characterize myself as a huge Speedball fan but he had cool powers and he was the comic relief of the group. This is just so out of character, even considering what they've put him through in the past year. I remember hearing that Joe Quesada hated the character but this is stupid.

Honestly, if Speedball had come out of nowhere with this new costume and persona, I'd have just rolled with it without complaint. Instead, they had him be completely against registration for 8 issues and then do a complete 180. It's more out of character than his characterization has been throughout Frontline.

Anyway, in #9, they mentioned that Hicky, his cellmate, had gone missing, but he hasn't been mentioned since. I'm now wondering who that guy really was and what he's up to.

I'm hoping that Ellis has some good plans lined up for Speedball in Thunderbolts. Maybe, though it is a long shot, this hold "transformation" is something that he wanted to see happen so that it would play into whatever story line he is writing.

Was that the panel where they had a suspicious looking caretaker in the foreground on the SHIELD helicarrier? I wondered about that too. How many issues of Frontline are left for Jenkins to resolve this? Two?

See, I'm quite fond of the character. Have been since the NW days. He had a goofy kind of charm nobody else had at the time (the 90s) so seeing him turned into an Image villain really rather pisses me off.

I wonder if Steve Ditko gives a shit.

I liked the Speedball and Night Thrasher stuff they used to do in New Warriors - great comedy team right there. I hadn't read the most recent New Warriors relaunch (I quit reading shortly after Ben Reilly left the team), but all the Frontline stuff and the Penance thing does seem really out of character for him. I guess when you kill a few hundred kids, or even play a part in that , it would fuck with your head.

Yeah but this was the last straw. People in the MU find Spidey fighting Venom a nuisance, but they're used to it. Plus normal homps don't usually die especially kids, unless they're muties.

edit: Plus this is around the time when Hulk goes on his rampage and people are starting to hear whisperings about HoM.

Kids or not though, people could have died anywhere with someone like Nitro around. Especially with his powers amplified. If it had been a shopping mall filled with elderly people getting the early bird special but still the same amount would it have not been as important? Its just a way of getting some cheap emoitonal story line going without any real effort.

But then, people blamed Columbine on the supposed causes of the boy's homicidal tendencies rather than the people who failed to stop them or even botched their attempts to stop them.

It'd have made more sense for them to call for the death penalty for all villains in light of the government's inability to keep them contained. Now THAT would be a morally ambiguous situation within the Marvel Universe with some heroes protecting a villain's right to life.

Really early on, I remember Millar saying something about not wanting to get into the whole Iron Fist/Daredevil thing, as he thought it might be too confusing to readers not familiar with Daredevil.

Did the DD capture occur in the main books or not? I.e. Civil War, Civil War Frontline?

Just wondering if maybe someone forgot. I'd be more impressed if it was a DD assisted escape than just having someone snipe some private access codes. Kinda underwhelming and just an excuse for all the pro reg to be there and for Cap to say "Oh yeah? You think you know your shit? We know yours too bitch. Face."

Daredevil was captured at the end of Civil War #5.

Also, I like how Jenkins can't keep track of characters captured in the book he's writing. Not that I'm sad to see Typeface go, but I must've missed the part where he broke out.

Everyone could be breaking out pretty soon with the big showdown in Civil war #7. Then the Thunderbolts could be trying to recapture them/murder them without a second thought.
