Looks like the dev channel's got bookmark syncing now. And, mere hours earlier, Xmarks added Chrome support.

Well, the syncing was in the repo for a while longer than the few hours between those announcements.

Yeah, Lifehacker speculated that Xmarks rushed out Chrome support because they knew the official support was well on its way. Oh, and extra info on the syncing - looks like the bookmarks are backed up to Google Docs via the Google Talk servers.

I was wondering what was taking Google so long on bookmark sync.

Gonna stick with xmarks though because it works with all my other browsers too.

I wish Google would just finish Chromium. Chrome is my favorite Windows browser as of now, though I'm so deep into Firefox by now on my Mac that the switch might be kind of hard.

Chromium is basically the development-version of Chrome. It's where features show up first.

Question: Is there a way to change the color it highlights text box fields? For example, here on PA it has my name/pass stored but the yellow color that it makes the login box makes the text entered almost impossible to read.

Recent changes: themes gallery and a basic extensions manager (you have to copy-paste that link into Chrome). Also, third-party extensions! Lots of them! Including mouse gestures, smooth scrolling (doesn't work in Google Reader), Facebook notifications (which made Chrome use 1.3 gigs of RAM on my system), session saving, that once Firefox-bound alternative to IE8's Accelerators, a basic Delicious bookmarker and a Hotmail notifier.

Reminder: you have to enable extensions via the command line and the shell.

Mouse gestures is the one thing holding me off from Chrome. I just changed to dev channel and tried to install a few different mouse gesture packages I googled but got an installation error with all of them. I suppose I'll have to hold off a little longer.

Update: Due to lack of time, lack of technical support, and despite repeated requests with no feedback, I sadly had to discontinue the AdSweep project. You can still download it and tweak the source code to your needs if you know how to do so. I will no longer remove ads on demand. Thanks to those who have helped me.

I just found a fantastic extension/userscript: AdBlock+ (yeah, it's not the actual thing, someone just borrowed the name). It's basically an element hider with keyboard shortcuts, so it doesn't have subscriptions/lists/things.

Still works pretty damn well. Someone will pick it up when an update to Chrome breaks it.

Now that Chrome 3 is out I have been using it more and more. It just seems so light weight, I know it's a digital thing on my monitor but compared to IE and even Firefox it makes those other browsers feel like heavy beasts.

I still prefer FF for adblock/flashblock but Chrome is doing a good job.

In case any of you guys are on the dev channel and Chrome keeps crashing on you, you'll probably have to make some changes to the switches in the shortcut: remove --enable-sync for the moment and insert --disable-extensions.

In the comments for the latest dev channel release, someone pointed out that you can now pin tabs. Basically, it's the same thing as FaviconizeTab for Firefox - makes the tab into an icon and shifts it to the start of the tab strip. No tab protection/locking. :(

You know, it's funny but even though I use mouse gestures all the time I only ever use two. Back and forward. They can do just about any command but with me.. just back and forward.

Also, is it just me or have news on chromeOS have pretty much gone silent?

I wouldn't expect them to put out much news on the Chrome OS until it has many more features and is much more polished and closer to completion.

I'm using 4.0.211.2 for Mac right now. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this gigantic bar is that appeared at the bottom of my browser?

    picture2nb.th.png

Also, is there any way to turn on an option for going Back by pressing backspace (delete on a Mac)? It seems to work in every other browser, and I've gotten really used to it!

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe that may be the extensions bar. I hope it isn't, though, because showing the extensions bar when it's not being used is just stupid considering the whole minimalism thing they're into.

It's definitely a glitch. It'll stay put while the rest of the window is resized around it. Observe:

If I make the window a little bigger... picture2scb.th.png

    or a little smaller...picture3zq.th.png

I just want it gone :( I tried deleting the preferences files, and even launching another version of Chrome out of the .DMG from Google. I'm afraid of removing Chrome completely because I like the history, favorites, etc I've got going with it.

Umm, anyone else notice how you have to login using a google account? That shit is fucked up.

So, you can't create a local user. It's either a. you sign in using a google account on your installed os or b. use an anonymous user account.

EDIT: Are you sure this is genuine and not fake?

I fully expect it to require a Google account. The entire concept of the Chrome OS is to integrate your web experience and desktop experience. If you just want an open source OS with a web browser, you have many other options.
