Just something I noticed (maybe discussed?); some peoples steam ID's are showing and some show as broken links. They're all the steamcommunity.com ones too.
Yeah, I got goonrushed and had to clear out all the sigs. I allowed an initial 300 to be created, I'll be opening up another 100 this friday.
This thing installs itself in application data? Now there's a weird choice...
I've noticed that quite a few Google apps do this. Under Vista, at least, the installer doesn't bring up UAC, so it just installs to the Local AppData directory.
I find that scrolling with my mousewheel is a whole lot faster now, probably because the webpages load so much faster, so I'm not scrolling while parts below are still loading. I've had to adjust my mouse wheel scroll speed.
No, this seems to just be one of those things it does. The mouse scrolling is kind of screwed up (it goes really quickly down, but doesn't go up).
Also, Ctrl + Tab/Shift+Tab and Ctrl + 1 through 9 for the first nine tabs. If you go over nine tabs, Ctrl+9 just takes you to the last tab.
I really, really like Chrome. It's fast and I don't feel encouraged to bookmark every interesting page I go to (as I am in Fx... for some reason). Also, it has all the keyboard shortcuts I'm used to (Ctrl+# for tabs, Ctrl+Shift+T, Ctrl+L, etc.)
I'm hoping they get a bookmarks organiser going soon, and also a way to add words to the dictionary. I'd like them to have bookmark keywords as well, but I can live without them.
EDIT: Something of interest I read about here - there's an about:memory page. It's more detailed than the task manager, but doesn't update by itself.
My desire to examine the settings of every app I encounter is greatly limited by the lack of settings available so far. It's almost too minimalistic for me. I do like the fade-in status bar and the clean look, compared to my messy Opera setup.
Not sure if it's faster, it loads some pages slowly while others are as fast as Opera, so there's not much difference to my eyes.
[edit]Just as I type that, I load up the Mercenaries 2 thread. It fucking blitzed through the image loading, while Opera was still lagging behind. Damn.
Poking around with it a bit. It's got some nice features and some of the tech stuff they're doing with it is quite cool. However I'm pretty sure I'm not going to use it because it lacks a lot of things I require from a browser. It seems at least on par with FF3 in terms of speed, might be a little faster. Not really sure.

Glass look, snazzy
Automatically adds a correct extension on downloaded files, based on the mime-type, removes query string garbage
Built-in ability to resize text boxes, way cool
Built-in private browsing mode
Interesting:
Doing away with the status bar
Dislikes:
Where is my autoscroll, you crazy browser?
There are no gestures, adblocking
Download statusbar not shared across tabs, double-clicking on the bar doesn't close it
No single-window mode, where you can consign pop-ups to their own tab
Where's undo close tab?
Anyway I hope Firefox steals the best ideas from them. Faster javascript and private browsing mode are coming in FF 3.1, maybe they can take a few other features/techniques as well.

Profile -> Signature Settings -> Hide signatures always. Then you don't have to read this worthless text anymore.
Just got around to playing with Chrome. Gotta say, its the fastest web browser I've used yet. HOLY SHIT! I just figured out that theres a drag box in the corner of the freaking quick reply box, and I can drag it around to make it bigger! Yeah, can't do that with Fire Fox.
Edit: works in the edit box too.
and it works in the advanced editor as well!
You can with extensions in FF and/or Greasemonkey scripts, it's in Safari ('Cause of WebKit [?]), it's possible in Opera, possible in IE7/IE8, etc. It's there by default in Safari and Chrome though.
Does anyone here know how to make it so that you can hold down mousewheel to scroll up and down? It's the only thing keeping me from this awesome thing
No way Google is going to crank out something like that. Others have said, either in this thread or the D&D thread, that ads are what makes Google money. They're not going to sanction anything like that. Something OS level is probably a better idea.

Thats true...
Oh well. Back to Firefox.
(Which is sad, cause Chrome is damn fast.)
There's certainly nothing stopping anyone from creating a plugin for this.
Someone, somewhere will eventually create something that blocks ads in Chrome. It's inevitable, really. The problem is getting it to play nice with this awesome environment Google has created without Google playing nice and letting it in.
It should be noted that on something like this though, Chrome will have a slightly higher load time (theoretically) since it has to compile the JS before executing it -- whereas Firefox is doing it on-the-fly.

Been playing around with it for a few. First impressions: simple, some elegance, very speedy, and pretty intuitive. Pretty much Google-esque all around. For a first release, I like.
With some more development, it could be a heavyweight browsing contender, especially once Google puts its full gorilla weight behind it and start rolling out the propaganda.
I *really* like how you can drag tabs out, and they'll pop-up in a new window. It makes tabs and windows more.. androgynous. I'm not a fan with how in Firefox, you can't throw tabs between windows easily, it makes breaking up tasks window by window a pain.
I'm missing a lot of features that are going to have to come out for 2.0, though. There's not even any autoscrolling.
I haven't used Opera in forever, so I can only compare with Firefox; but Chrome seems lightning fast, and it doesn't have Firefox's horrible tendency to freeze my computer at 100% whenever it encounters an FLV or large amounts of javascript. I tried the Dromaeo test, and got something like 4000 vs 700; and Chrome did it without significant CPU load, whereas Firefox was at 100% the whole time. Memory usage is also much nicer, particularly after running for a long time. Closing a tab really does free up all the memory it was using.
One of my favourite websites, Deezer.com, causes Chrome to give a long and horrible shudder as it grinds to a halt. Every. Single. Time. It's a pain in the ass, because I always have Deezer open with music on in the background.
I'm using Deezer on Chrome right now, and having no problems. It DID take over a minute to display anything the first time I visited the site, but on subsequent visits it loads instantly and works without any problems, although scrolling is not as smooth as other sites.

You can move tabs between windows in Firefox.
Can't drag them out to make a new window though, you end up making a shortcut on your desktop. I like that chrome feature too.

Do you ever use it?
No, no, no. It should be "secret gift mode".
It allows you to resize the form.

No major problems yet though.
Same thing happens with my laptop strip. My mouse scroll wheel goes up and down fine, but the pad only goes down.
Otherwise, I love the new browser.

When you create a new tab it gives you a list of your most recently closed tabs. Not the most convenient thing in the world but at least it exists.
Ctrl+Shift+T also brings up closed tabs. I'm not sure what the limit is, if any exists.
Edit: works in the edit box too.

And where is my damn status bar !
Actually, I'm not sure if it's a webkit thing, or independently implemented...

Obviously an intentional homage. Wonder how many people will get it.

It's jerky for me as well so you're not alone :P
Anyway, has anyone successfully managed to make Chrome the default browser? Because I can't :?
