Though I'm sure many of you are already active paritipants in online games (Play by Post, Play by Email, thread based, etc), there's one site I've found so far that's a truly remarkable resource;
Role Play On-Line: RPoL
Here, you can find hundreds (if not thousands) of active games across dozens of genres. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Robotech, Rifts, D&D (of all flavours and numerous realms), Historical, and more.
Some of the games form up and flounder. Some are created by people I wouldn't trust to hand me a bus ticket, let alone present me with good gaming opportunities. I ran a D&D 3.0 game of Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil that lasted for a year, and have played in several games run by friends and strangers.
The play by post style isn't for everyone, but the features on the site make for some interesting games. You can imbed private text to the game master or other players in your posts. There is also a private messaging feature (more like hidden threads that players can create), and you're assigned to a "group" as a character, which allows for a GM to have threads up that some people can see, while others are unaware of their existance. There's even a dice rolling function/random number generator with a wide variety of options (specific game systems, number and type of dice, along with bonuses or penalties).
There's a wide selection of avatars available, along with large areas for character sheets, and a completely private "scratch pad" area for taking notes that even the GM can't see.
For the record, I'm in no way affiliated with the site, except for having used it on and off for the past 4 years or so. Considering the nature of this forum, I thought there might be some others around who might find this to be a useful site for getting that gaming fix. As with all gaming, YMMV.
