    really, why

I'd much rather have M-14 replica, I think they call the civilian version the M1A

M1A is pretty dang awesome but its heavy as fuck.

    My AR-15 is like 7 pounds--quite manageable.

Isn't the AR-15 an assault rifle?

Why would you need an assault rifle?

Are you in the army? Or maybe a narco-terrorist posting from the Columbian jungle?

    Seriously, why the assault rifle?

I have many guns... But currently I love my BSA.

Once I sight it in more and get used to it, I will be shooting in the 90s hopefully. Got an 87 at a competition last weekend, 88 was a medal score. I was kind of pissed about it.

He must be really bad at cleaning guns. I mean, did he just chamber a cartridge before removing the clip or something. God that's retarded.

I've got a shotgun for bears and deer, but that's about it. My roommate has a 45-70 guide rifle, pretty much for the same thing. But, you know, we don't shoot each other.
I have no idea. The fact that he shot his roommate would go pretty far in convincing me that he's dumb as hell though, so I guess anything's possible.

t wiseguy - oh yeah, he has a bitching scar on his arm, and it's gotten him some late-night action more than once. pretty fair trade, id say. what doesnt kill you only gets you laid, and all that

the bottom line is he's a fucking idiot for pointing a gun at someone he didn't intend to shoot

he's immensely more retarded for intentionally pulling the trigger to "prove" it wasn't loaded

he should have pressed charges in my opinion because this fucker is too goddamn stupid to be let off the hook

This story angers me greatly. Jesus fuck you never ever ever ever point a gun at someone. I don't point a single action shotgun, broken open that visibly lacks a shell, at someone.

What confuses me is why someone so dumb would bother to clean his gun. Wouldn't he just view it as the fun metal thing that goes bang when he pulls the lever?

I guess he doesn't know the three rules of gun safety, as passed down by my family:

1.) The gun is always loaded

2.) The gun is always loaded

3.) Don't point the gun at anything you don't intend to shoot.

The M1A is nice and all, but have you looked into buying a M1A? Oh, they're only about $1400.

You can get an M1 Garand from the CMP, for about $400 - $500, and own a little piece of history.

Sure, I'd love to own the M1A, but my desire for the M1 Garand is greater. Someday, I will own both. Until then, the M1 Garand has priority. As does an 03 Springfield.

My love for my JC Higgins Model 51 .30-06 knows no bounds. Mostly because it has some custom work done to it, and my dad learned to hunt on it, as I did.

I really want a .30-30 and a .45-70. Two classic calibers, right there.

My grandfather custom built this rifle. It was originally a Martini-Henry, but this one is in .45-70. Made specifically for target shooting, it has a level on the front sight and weighs a lot... I should really weigh it one day and figure out how much, but it is very difficult to fire standing.

What was the range that he was shooting at?

The .45-70 drops pretty significantly after 100 yards, and I am still in awe that the great shooters of the West would shoot buffalo from ranges beyond 400 yards with it.

From what I gathered 100-500 yards in competition. The few times I've fired it (black powder is a bitch to clean) you were lobbing the bullets at 200 yards. Very accurate though... Given proper shooting gear and actually trying.

    Iraq?
In the 1991 Persian Gulf conflict, 288 Tomahawks were launched. The first salvo was fired by two attack submarines on January 17, 1991, USS Pittsburgh and Louisville. The Louisville Slugger company gave the crew of the latter special-edition baseball bats emblazoned with an image of the submarine conducting a Tomahawk launch. The honor was repeated during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The United States Navy has a stockpile of around 3,500 Tomahawk cruise missiles of all variants.

    Not all battleships though.

Let's put it this way. At 100 yards, a .45-70 drops around 1.5 inches. At 150 yards, 6 inches. At 200 yards, approximately 12.5 inches. At 250, 25 inches. And so on and so forth.

Now, when hunting something, there are several vital areas. Sure, you can shoot something in the head, but it best penetrate to the brain. So your best shot is in the eye. If you were going for a headshot, and those aren't really the best places to shoot and you would make a fairly unethical hunter if you always went for these kinds of shots, not being able to guarantee a quick death to the animal.

Now, you can also hope to break their spine. It's a good shot, easier than a headshot, but you must shoot for the neck on most animals, cause otherwise you ruin that back meat if you shoot it in the spine. Animals are constantly moving their head, so spine shots aren't so great.

Next, you have the chest shot. Broadside. Hit the lungs, they will run a little ways, and die. Best place to shoot, minimal chance of you ruining any meat.

All three would be difficult to achieve if you just fired blindly into a herd of buffalo, not to mention they're pretty hardy animals. So, if you failed to hit these spots, you'd likely just kill a buffalo two days later when they eventually died from their wound, or when another critter got them.
