Taking a trip to Iceland (hopefully)

My girlfriend and I a starting to plan for a trip/vacation to Iceland. We are aiming for next spring so there is plenty of time to get ready, but I have never traveled outside the US, except short trips driving up to Canada, and was wondering if anyone had any advice about booking flights/hotels in Europe.

Is there a Travelocity international type of thing somewhere, or is it best to deal directly with airlines/hotels. I know to book every leg of the flight in one go when possible so I don't have to recheck my bags and go through security at every leg of the trip, but beyond that I'm pretty clueless.

Also, I got a DUI about 6 years ago and was wondering if that would cause any problems. It caused a huge hassle getting into Canada and I would like to avoid any of that kind of thing.

I don't have any experience going to Iceland, but on my trip to Ireland I found several great deals through Hotels.com.

Use that site to search fares. Best one I found.

Also: Blue Lagoon. I happened to read an article about Iceland today. Do it.

Expect things to be REEEAL expensive. I stopped in four ports in Ireland while working on a cruise ship last summer. I managed to be incredibly frugal while I was there, but I recall a certain sax player who ended up paying through the nose for everything.

Something like $150 for a 20 minute taxi, and $30 for a sub at Subway.

    This.

People in my corp on Eve are from Iceland or go there for the fanfest all the time. It is not cheap there, especially alcohol.

    Thanks for all the tips

Are things more expensive there than in US, the rest of Europe or both? Does anyone know how Iceland compares to Norway or Sweden with regards to hotel/taxi/boozef costs, airport security, etc

I heard a while back that some countries in Europe were upset about the US requiring visas for them to visit, not just passports, and were going to start doing the same thing. Did this ever come to pass?
