Popular song lyrics?

Hello!

I'm an RA at my university so I get to do fun corny programs. Anyways, I got an idea of a contest from a RA resource site, rules as follows (in spoiler due to length).
1) Every week the lyrics to three songs will be posted on the board and you will have an unlimited number of guesses to try and figure out which song they belong to. Lyrics will be either from the chorus or other wise well known lyrics.

2) Residents will submit their guess on a piece of paper and either hand it to me or slip it under my door. Your paper should include a) your name b) the corresponding number to the song you’re guessing & c) the guess you’re making.

3) Every correct guess will earn the participant one point in the game, with a max of three points a week. The person with the most points at the end of the game will win a free college special of their choice (you know, from milano’s) during finals week. The tie breaker will be who got their answers in the fastest, on average.

So you’re reading this and thinking, “Hmmm seems easy enough… What’s the catch?”

4) This is where it gets interesting. All of the lyrics have been put through an online translator and translated into a foreign language. Then they’ve been put through the translator again and put back to English! That’s what you’ll be guessing!

For example:

Britney Spears’ hit song “One More Time.”

The original:

My loneliness is killing me. I must confess, I still believe. When I’m not with you I loose my mind. Give me a sign. Hit me Baby, one more time.

Post translations:

My loneliness me kills. It should I admit, I still believe. When I am not with you I my relaxed brain. Me you give a mark. Me you strike, baby, a more time.

5) Songs will be changed every week on Monday. If no one manages to guess a song by the next Monday, that song will remain on the board until someone does. The game will conclude on December 8th.

Alright, so I need around 45 songs. I have 13 so far.

The party only begun, we will leave him in
You guide us wild, we will guide him lunatic
You continue shoutin', continues shoutin'

I rock-n-roll of wanna all night and the routine party

I'm having difficult of thinking of more. I can think of songs of course, but I need songs with choruses or a verse that mostly everyone would be able to recognize if they saw it.

Any help would be great.

Thanks!

I'm A Believer is a Monkees song from the 60's redone by that shitty group Smashmouth.

The song from Top Gun by Berlin, Take My Breath Away might come out amusingly.

Watching every motion in my foolish lover's game
On this endless ocean finally lovers know no shame
Turning and returning to some secret place inside
Watching in slow motion as you turn around and say

Also: Kiss - Rock and Roll All Night could be interesting.

Totally random, but this is kind of a rip-off of a Mark Twain piece, which criticized a French critic's review of his story, The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. Mark Twain said, of course it's not funny, it's in French. He proceeded to prove this by publishing the original, the French translation, and his translation back to English of the French version. It was, indeed, not funny in French.

Edit: I don't mean to say I think your idea sucks because Mark Twain did it first--obviously the results can be hilarious--he thought so at least. Maybe you can do the same thing with famous literary passages too.

Bonus round should be Wooly Bully by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs--no one knows what the lyrics are in English anyway so it'll be super-hard.

Uno, dos, one, two, tres, quatro
Matty told Hatty about a thing she saw.
Had two big horns and a wooly jaw.
    Wooly bully, wooly bully.
Wooly bully, wooly bully, wooly bully.

Hatty told Matty, "Let's don't take no chance.
Let's not be L-seven, come and learn to dance."
    Wooly bully, wooly bully
Wooly bully, wooly bully, wooly bully.

Matty told Hatty, "That's the thing to do.
Get you someone really to pull the wool with you."
    Wooly bully, wooly bully.
Wooly bully, wooly bully, wooly bully.

I apologize about the Monkees thing. I have a floor of 20 some year old guys, I'm wondering if they would think of the Monkees or Smashmouth first? I like Kiss, I'll try that. I'm just using www.freetranslation.com. The crappier the translator the better I think.

That's really cool, I didn't know about that. I didn't come up with this myself, it was posted on an RA resource website with a bunch of other programming ideas. I was thinking about trying this again next semester with quotes or something like that.

Edit: By the way, I don't mind some lesser known ones, but they can't be niche to a 20 year old college guy. I want to give everyone a slight chance.

Smells Like Teen Spirit should actually be pretty recognizable, and might come out interesting when double-translated:

With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
    I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido

This is a great idea for a trivia contest.

There are plenty of Beatles songs that people would recognize. I Am the Walrus and Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds are recognizable and might give some interesting results. Also, Immigrant Song by Led Zepplin, Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix, All Along the Watchtower by Bob Dylan, Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd.

Going a little more modern, there are a ton of really recognizable 80s pop songs. Just about anything by Madonna or Michael Jackson; Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran, Girls Just Wanna Fun by Cyndi Lauper.

You could also do some really cheesy late-80s/early-90s rap. Ice Ice Baby, U Can't Touch This, Baby Got Back.

Nice. I'll have to try that one. Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys! Keep it coming. Sadly not everything works out :(

Of the ones suggested in this thread so far I'm using:

Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch
Kiss - Rock and Roll All Night
    MC Hammer - U Can't Touch This
Nirvana - Smells Like Team Spirit

It seems for every 10 i try one works well.

I'm a Brit here so not sure if some of these are as famous with you :) Hopefully you'll find a couple useful ones. Love the idea by the way!

The Chemical Brothers - The Salmon Dance

Put your hands to the side, as silly as it seems
And shake your body like a salmon floating up stream

    Radiohead - Creep

    But I'm a creep
    I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
    I don't belong here

Korn - Freak On a Leash

Feeling like a freak on a leash
Feeling like I have no release
How many times have I felt diseased?
Nothing in my life is free... is free

Electric Six - Danger! High Voltage

    Danger, danger!
    High voltage
    When we touch
    When we kiss
    When we touch
    When we kiss

Journey - Don't Stop Believin' (Blame me rewatching Scrubs for this one..)

Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere...
Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere...

    Gary Numan - Cars

    Here in my car
    I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
It's the only way to live
    In cars

Perhaps maybe something by Beastie Boys, Johnny Cash?
