I have no particular investment here, since I probably dont post in GT or SE more than a couple times a year, but I would guess the standard would be to look at Whippy's comments explaining the GT changes, and at the goals of the mods and admins for the future direction of the forums.
    Whippy wrote:
You have become a smattering of xenophobic cliques.

Is something he wrote about the various mega threads, and chat thread in GT. If the same is true of the game-on threads in SE, then yeah, perhaps some change should be made. If the idea is that cliques are bad, and that inter-forum rivalry is retarded, then a Game-On thread specifically for SE because they don't want to play with the GT folks or whatever may not be the best idea.
Look it's not that difficult to look into other forums,

and it's not that we want to exclude people, but the SE++ Game on threads tend to go from playing to random chatter, back to playing, and chatter again

    it's just a cycle

I hate to say it becuase it dangerously approaches "what is the purpose of SE++ again" but this reasoning comes dangerously close to "we want to have our cake and eat it too".

as it stands now, you have G&T for game ons, and you have SE++ to chitchat randomly.

Far Side, that's a valid reason (indeed, probably the MOST valid reason) that I've heard yet for the SE++ threads to exist seperate.

Which leads to the question: What is it about G&T that instantly mandates a militaristic-like doctrine of staying strictly on topic?

This is again why I would think a Game On subforum would work, with rules that aren't as strict as G&T, but not as lax as SE++.

Given that this was tried once, and failed, I dont really see it happening.

It's an on topic forum. Off topic forums are fine, but G&T is designed to stay on topic. It's strayed from this goal somewhat, it's true, but I think the goal is for it to head back towards this. Don't quote me though!

I really don't think this will happen. It was a terrible failure last time. People just don't have the impetus to visit a seperate forum for Game Ons it seems.

So it was just inactive? That's not terribly suprising. A lot of the game on's I have listed in the sticky go inactive (though, this is why I try to preserve them, to let people know we DO have people that play them).

Don't bant me for this, CT, but the reasoning behind us losing our chat thread (*Cringe*) was because the mods thought it would be best for us to visit a seperate subforum to do our chatting.

How is this any different than using a seperate subforum for game-ons? It's still 2 clicks away from any given thread or subforum.

Playing devil's advocate here, and I apologize.

PS, what's the standard for forum activity? D&M, while new, definitely moves slower than the other subforums, yet it is shaping up to be quite healthy.

Edit: I'm going out for dinner, actually. I am hoping that I can check the responses to this when I get back. *grins sheepishly*

I'm home from the movie, this topic kind of took off.

I haven't checked the threads in question but I have a feeling the conversations are different because the two communities are still very different. The idea was to kind of unify the communities.

Topics like this are not helping that in the same way that SE Game On threads are.

I'd like to add that there is more to this than, "OMG, TEH 360 MEGATHREADS R IN SE++!!!!11"

There are a metric fuckton of threads that not only belong in other forums, but in fact ALREADY ARE in other forums. And the fact of the matter is it all boils down to the clique in SE make the doppleganger threads because they don't want to consort with the rest of the forumites. And allowing this goes against the newfound "spirit of forum unity" that seems to have taken hold of the administration as of late.

Yeah, it's all counterproductive to the reform of the entire forum, which has coincidentally only changed one part of the forum.

but according to some of those who tend to actually have a say in this, SE is for any kind of discussion so it doesn't even matter so long as their rules aren't being broken and those rules are pretty lax.

When Whippy says he wants to make a forum (not just a subforum) the guys can be proud of and decides to completely change things, then I don't see why extremely similar problems are ignored at other parts of the forum.

Whippy's whole little dream to unify the place and make it a better forum all around is the pressing reason to change it. It goes against everything he said wants to happen.

You might have missed the part where he said he wants to clean out G+T because it's the most related board in terms of the webcomics. If an actual dev wants to see a community response to something on PA, they would go to G+T. I don't think this is some arching thing to bring the interwebs together, I think it's just changing the image of one subforum.

I have nothing against SE as a whole, I post there pretty regularly now and I have friends there.

The problem isn't with SE, it's with the idea "oh we're going to try to change things and make everything better" and only change a piece of the whole.

That's a pretty poor example of something to PM Whippy about. He's the admin, you would have been better off PMing a moderator. And, y'know, all the moderators have lives to live outside of here, something important could have come up that he had to deal with. It's not as though he ignored GOATSE EXPLOSION.

It's been what, four days? We don't have to change everything immediately and drastically. Sometimes things need time to breathe. Sometimes things don't need changing at all. Honestly, and I don't mean to sound rude to anyone reading this, but I just wish people would shut up for a while, unless something is creating an obvious and urgent problem.
