For at least the last three years my PC has had a bit of an issue with the on switch on the font of the case. Occasionally it physically sticks in when pressed. The PC then thinks I'm holding it in and shuts down, then powers up, then shuts down and so on. Wiggling the button till it frees up often breaks the cycle.
Recently the current version of the computer died permanently (I suspect the motherboard) and I took this as a sign to do the much delayed upgrade. However, I really want to use the current case but don't want to blow up a brand new motherboard (even three years down the line...).
Has anyone had a sticking on/off button? Can it be fixed?
The old man suggested WD40... I'm not considering that a solution (yet, at least).
I think your best bet is to remove all the computer parts so you are working on just the case itself, and then go to town on that little sucker, including:
-clearing any foreign objects (dust bunnies?) that may have collected in the mechanism
-adding lubricant (3 in 1 oil would work better than WD 40 for this purpose)
-dismantling the switch and then putting it back together
-removing it and replacing it with a new switch.

I couldn't see any FO around the switch but I didn't get as far as taking it apart. I'll give that a shot.
Cheers!
My other sig sucks as well...
