Man, being without regular tv or internet access has left me completely out of the loop regarding football. It's such a wierd, disconnected feeling. Still, I'm saddened that my first contact with football for the week is to turn on ESPN and find wall to wall coverage of the TO situation. I mean, sad situation and all, depending on what the truth is, but is he really that big of a story? It's certainly noteworthy, but I feel it's being blown way out of proportion.

Anyway, I'm going to throw my hat into the prognostication ring, even though I have extremely limited knowledge to work with. I figure half informed (or less) guesswork is as likely to work as anything.

Indianapolis at NY Jets - Probably letting my dislike for all things Manning get in the way here, but I do have an odd feeling about this game.
New Orleans at Carolina - Don't buy NO being as good as their record says or Carolina as bad as their record.
Minnesota at Buffalo - I look at Minnesota as being slightly less (or maybe it should be more) mediocre than Buffalo.
Arizona at Atlanta - I don't like Warner or Lienart, so this is an easy pick.
San Diego at Baltimore - I think Rivers comes down to earth a bit against Baltimore's defense.
Miami at Houston - It's a shame these two have to play, otherwise we might see two teams go 0 for the season.
San Francisco at Kansas City - I refuse to accept SF as anything other than one of the three worst teams in the league.
Dallas at Tennessee - Despite the whole TO situation, I can't see Tennessee doing anything unless they happen to start Volek sometime. 0-16 candidate #3.
Detroit at St. Louis - Our fourth 0-16 candidate emerges.
Jacksonville at Washington - Even with Portis back and healthy, I can't overlook the fact that Mark Brunell is still the starter at QB.
Cleveland at Oakland - There's never even been one 0-16 team, and yet here we are with 5 teams that have legitimate chances at reaching that mark.
New England at Cincinnati - Who dey?!
Seattle at Chicago - No Alexander cements a game that otherwise would've been a toss up.
Green Bay at Philadelphia - Don't care what the stats say, I still think Favre's success so far is a charade.

I read this article and squeeled with glee, but I was mislead; Apparently it's a big deal that Alexander can jump around in Holmgren's office on his "broken" foot. He's shouldn't play. They saw a crack, he's just trying to convince his coach that he feels fine because he wants to play so bad. I mean, when you're the reigning MVP, you don't wanna go out 18th in the league in rushing three games into the season.

Unfortunately, I think even if the re-scans come back showing the same damn thing, Holmgren might play him. Have you ever seen Friday Night Lights? You know that one scene where Boobie Miles convinces his coach to play him after he fucks up his leg? And then proceeds to get his shit ruined, ending his playing career for good? I can't stop thinking about it.

Well if Alexander can play as good or as hard as usual why not play him? And at the very least this messes up the bears prep, you don't know who will suit up now.

Alexander doesn't have to play if Hasselbeck throws the ball like he did Sunday. Plus, they got that new reciever that they only just broke in.

Auburn-South Carolina was surprisingly competetive, and fun to watch. Is South Carolina really good, was it the home-team advantage, or is Auburn not as good as everyone thinks they are?

And this weekend's college games on TV suck. I'll watch Notre Dame-Purdue to see if the Irish have another loss in them... probably not this Saturday.

Ohio State - Iowa should be a good game, though as a Buckeye's fan I can't say I see much chance of an upset.

And seriously, it would be a little bit better if in the future whoever posted the weekend's matchups first didn't bold them, just left them for the rest of us to bold. I had to both delete and then bold myself to make this post. Just make a clean match-up post, then reply to it with your bolded picks.

I mean, that's just my opinion anyway.

I made an ill-advised avy bet on my regular sports board, and I'm currently rocking Jeremiah Trotter for now and the next three weeks because of my over-confidence in SF. It's not necessarily I thought SF was that great, I just didn't think the Eagles were that good.

Either way, I figured I had to pick the same as my bet, even if it was based largely on shit-talking, but now that's over, I can see a little clearer now. Jeremiah Trotter is showing me the way with every post I make.

Oh man. Deja vu for Michigan State. Like Ohio State last year, Notre Dame has beaten them (at least) twice this year.

    As for the NFL...

    Cleveland at Oakland
New England at Cincinnati (being a Bengals fan for 18 of my 25 years has made me the eternal pessimist when it comes to this team. And "should win" games against teams like New England scare me.)

It's worse when he's in a press conference after the game talking about how he was being double and triple teamed all the time. Oh well, he may still turn out to not suck farther on down the road. I don't understand why the Texans are so fucking stupid about drafting. They've had like 4 years to figure out they need to bolster the offensive line. And the very first pick of the expansion draft was a fucking O-lineman that had just had surgery on both shoulders, of course he never set foot on the field for them.

The Texans still don't feel like my team to me. I just haven't built up enough of an emotional investment in them. I still follow the Titans/Oilers out of habit.

A lot of the fans here have turned on him early. I'm not sure why. He's always struck me as physically gifted, but with zero chance to succeed due to the talent around him.

Also, he's had some really egregious mistakes so far this season, even if they haven't shown up in his QB rating, liked dropped snaps and such. That might have been partially the fault of the backup center. He's also thrown some nice passes.

Anyway, maybe the Texans will beat Miami tomorrow. That would be awesome, even though Miami is my FF defense.

My God, Haynesworth, what is wrong with you?

Vince Young had a good starting performance. And by good starting performance I don't mean a terrible game. He made some bad decisions, but he was playing a lot better toward the end of the first half and then end of the game than he was in the beginning. Too bad he had to start against a really good defense. He didn't do well on the designed run they had for him, but when he was just scrambling to get out of a bad situation, he was great. And for the most part, I think he prefered to just stay in the pocket and throw it. The Titans' defense just showed up for the opening drive, though, and didn't give him much help.

I am asuming the St Louis game I just watched was from this week. It's my first NFL exposure since I lost Madden '05 ;)

It reminded me what I love and hate about the american game, the stategy and the stupidly agressive do-or-die dying seconds football.

And the slight rule technicallity meaning that even though the defence fouled the reciever, it wasn't a foul and they won the game. Great stuff.

In all seriousness, i'm looking forward to immersing myself in NASCAR and NFL. Godbless Cable Television.

You know what's old, every player has to do a pose or a dance after just about every play. It loses it point after seeing 15 times in one quarter. It really isn't a big deal that they got a tackle(or whatever), I mean they are getting paid a few thousand dollars to do THEIR JOB. If I started pointing to my muscles everytime I did my job people would think I was a bit odd. Though it would be funny to see a kicker do some sort of pose after he lands a punt into a corner. Either way, you should introduce that aspect more into your life and do a celebration everytime you do something at work.
