Half Priced Books stores have been amazing for me as far as old software goes. I picked up Grim Fandango at one of those for about a buck fifty. I think it was further discounted as a post-holiday sale, too.
I'm kinda hoping the engine for Grim Fandango and that last Monkey Island game get included in some future version of SCUMMVM. If it doesn't run on a DS port, though, I'd be sad.
the graphics are awful and there isn't any action and you wander around for like ten hours and then you find a ham and then you wander around for ten hours using the ham on everything you see and then you read a walkthrough and you have to push the ham through a mailslot at precisely 4:15 in the afternoon while wearing a polo jersey but not a bowler but it will only advance the plot if you've already used the broken toaster on uncle fran's corns
I've seen a little of the game. Bit upset that it's in 3D really.
The swamp bit was pretty fantastic though.
I really enjoyed it. Got it for Christmas the year it was released and by Boxing Day I'd finished it.
I think I did something wrong with Monkey Kombat though -- I ended up with an entire A3 page of directions for the different stances and what works against what.

The one about the fucking space hairdresser and the cowboy. He's got a tinfoil pal and a pedal bin

Sounds about right. I drew a diagram of all the stances, which stance beats which, and what you say to change from stance A to stance B.

it'd be better if you had a gun and fought some aliens and had a lot of blood and normal mapping

I played this when I was about 10 or so, so my mind is really foggy. I remember getting to a point where the chick that Manny wanted to bone was caught in a safe and the thing for entering combos was broken. I think it was about 3/4 of the way through the game. My copy is sitting on the shelp, asking to be played.

yeah, the lockpick minigame is really annoying if you don't have a gamepad

Probably not, the DS only has 4 MB of RAM.
