Disk Trays locked out by "Administrator"

So my home computer seems to be basically falling apart. (running windows xp sp2)
The major problem right now is, my disk trays (DVD player and then CD R/RW) are locked out.
Like, everytime I turn on the computer, I get the message "The disk trays are locked by the Administrator".
But no matter what I try it won't 'unlock'. The trays open and close, but no discs are recognized by it.
So um, ideas?

I'm going to take a random stab in the dark and call adware infestation on this one.

Post a HiJackThis log if you can get that to run, but I'm going to go with "nuke it from orbit."

Start, Run, type gpedit.msc. Sounds like a message from policy settings.

Go through the settings and locate any settings to do with the cd/dvd drive and revert them. Also, I second likely virus.

I will third the "it's likely a virus"

Give Nod32 trialware a shot. That might fix the virus or the "nuke from orbit" suggestion that peregrine falcon suggested should work.

well i tried some stuff and got zilch

gotta understand, outside of the disc tray, this computer is fine in the guts methinks
it's fast and still plays most games

but the i think it might be something with wires now
the front usb ports are very wonky, while the ones on the back always work.
